Good tutorial! We don't need special tools, just dry sand. Also it looks easy to crimp the ends of the pipe and then open up to release the sand. No need for a very tight seal such as when using water. You could also bend and crimp the pipe at the ends and saw the ends off later for a strong seal maybe. I got some sand from the beach since it's fine and dry.

Learnt to do this 40 years ago doing my apprenticeship. It works with pvc pipe too, but you gotta be careful not to overheat.

I tried this once after hearing you could bend pipe with sand without creasing the pipe. It didn't work, so I thought that was just false.
