I was so happy to see Wear // Tear here as i feel it is really underrated. Pulled it in mystery booster and put it in my mardu deck. My playgroup had to read it over as i cast it, i think they were surprised at how efficient it was for the effect.
My personal favorite after Wear & Tear is Response & Resurgence. It can both act as a removal on most creatures earlier into the game, and later, it's basically a wincon. I put it in all my Boros/Mardu decks, such a sweet and versatile card
@@dislikebutton9571 Cut // Ribbons has won me a couple of games. I got the dope Secret Lair for it because it's always at least been a good creature removal. And those black red and gold colors just look dope in a mardu deck
i miss running split cards, modern cards are just so much better and I usually only play guild colors, so it's very rare that my deck has a synergistic split card, but I love them.
You don't need the best cards to compete. I play a couple times a year and use my deck from 2016 when I do. Commander is so hectic it can hold up just fine
Refuse // Cooperate is pretty decent too. Ping someone casting a big spell then copy an instant or sorcery from the bin is what I used before I had Reiterate for my Mizzix deck.
Catch and Release is also good for stealing an opponent's planeswalker and downticking it, or even ulting it if that opponent just got it high enough to ult it on their next turn. Supply and Demand has been one of my more favorite underrated tutors in EDH - when you hear "tutor" everyone thinks of Black or maybe Green cards, never WU. Ready and Willing is great for wide decks. Ready protects your creatures, Willing is great on defense, and fused they're great for offense. Not to mention, it's an Instant, so you can swing out then cast it after blockers are declared to untap all your creatures, giving them pseudo-vigilance. Hide and Seek is another very underrated card. Hide tucking an artifact or enchantment, at instant speed, is great; and Seek being able to get rid of a key combo piece is great. I always like the Praetor's Grasp / Sadistic Sacrament exiling from library effects to deny opponents their combo pieces. Pure and Simple, yet another underrated card. Pure destroying any multicolored permanent for 3 mana, and Simple destroying all auras and equipment is great for removing all those Greaves/Swiftfoot, as well as really weakening voltron decks of either type. Wear and Tear is straight up a RW staple card, yet so many people sleep on it. 1RW to destroy two relevant permanents, or destroying one specific relevant permanent for 1 or 2 mana, is amazing. Another great split card I always see slept on is Armed and Dangerous, especially for voltron decks. The thing everyone thinks of when they first see it is "okay, make one guy big and he takes out a bunch of other guys as he dies" but what everyone misses is that the two sides can target _separate creatures._ So what you do is buff your voltron commander with the +1/+1 and double strike, then give one of your other useless creatures the lure, and swing them both in to kill someone since they can't block your commander now.
Hide // Seek has been one of my auto includes for any Mardu deck haha. It's worth it for the Hide side alone, but Seek is also really good answer for sorcery based win conditions (Triumph of the Horde, Expropriate, Torment of Hailfire, etc) in colors where you don't have traditional counterspells. Repudiate // Replicate is an absolute all star in my Niv Mizzet Reborn. I use it to abuse ETBs when I don't have any flicker effects yet. Wear // Tear is too good to not mention. Really underrated card I think you should check out is Odds // Ends. The front half will either counter or copy an instant or sorcery depending on a coin flip. This is really great against tutors because you'll either stop your opponent from tutoring or get to tutor yourself, which is absolutely money for 2 mana. It's also a hard answer against counterspells no matter what the result is. Ends makes an opponent sacrifice two attacking creatures for 5 mana. Not as good as Odds in my opinion, but it's another option you have against hexproof/indestructible threats.
I run Life//Death and Cut//RIbbons in my OG Xira Arien, Repudiate//Replicate in my Ivy deck, and I also love two mono red ones, Insult//Injury and a new one from New Capenna Indulge//Excess
Not split cards, but FUSE cards. The aftermath cards are 1 to 2 colors, allow for two spells from one card per turn or divided between turns and synergize in a self mill or discard theme. My Raffine deck uses them as useful connive targets so I can get counters while keeping ahead on card advantage.
Glad someone else is talking about the aftermath cards, they're my favorite. The board wipe one that brings back all your little things, name escapes me right now, is my favorite.
My Extus Deck uses sunforger as a “secret” commander. Hide//Seek is my FAVORITE card in the deck. Both sides are equally valuable. Sometimes throwing something back in the deck is better than destroying it!
Re-watching this video for deckbuilding reasons. Yeah Pure//Simple and Crime//Punishment are pretty great, especially that Punishment side just as targeted removal for a low mana value permanent with some collateral damage as a plus. Commit//Memory is definitely my favorite nowadays. It's the most versatile removal spell I know of, hitting any nonland permanent or any spell, even if that spell cannot be countered. And the spin 2nd from the top can be as much an upside as a downside if you can exploit it, such as with the aftermath side (Memory) to shuffle that card away and draw everyone a new hand.
Ready // Willing is great in a pingers/tappers deck, you always want untapping stuff in that archetype plus pingers getting deathtouch is where its at.
Oh these will all go in my guildmages Jenson+Zirda deck, would give me such degree of options and i won't have to run a bunch of boring stables to fill out the deck.
The problem with split cards I think is that you have to have all the colors and often times they are 3 color minimum and there are just more economical cards. Personally all run a lot of the amonkhet ones where you get both and I'd through the adventures in too because whoo adventures are amazing split cards.
Personally I really like Order // Chaos. Not much to look at, but that red side says your creatures are unblockable this turn, which is a win con for any deck with multiple big creatures in need of evasion. Also has that janky white removal side just in case you need an extra removal spell in the deck.
Repudiate // Replicate is so great because it kinda feels bad whenever you have nothing good to counter and it also feels bad whenever you have nothing good to clone. Having a narrow counterspell and a narrow clone effect on the same card gives you more opportunities to use such situational effects to prevent the card from being dead in your hand. I personally have it in my Imoti deck with Keruga as the companion. Casting Repudiate feels great because the deck normally doesn't have spells with mana value 2. I mainly use the Replicate side to create a copy of my commander (after putting a mutate card on top of it so it's not legendary).
Idk if Aftermath cards count for this, but Cut // Ribbons is a staple in my rakdos decks. its good early removal that doubles for a mana sink and potential finisher late game.
Invent // invert is the best split card ever printed imo. It says tutor for a Instant and Sorcery. Instant speed. Replaces itself twice. Jeska’s will + grab any good instant
I wish they made more split and fuse cards. I honestly like "Boom/Bust" a lot- sure, "Bust" is mass land destruction but "Boom" makes it so it can also be played as just single target destruction instead....so it doesn't have to be the "feel bad" move that a lot of other MDL cards are.
Now I want to make a split card tribal deck. I don't think it would be great at anything, but my hand would effectively have 14 mediocre cards instead of 7 good ones. I wonder how it would do
Revival//Revenge is a personal favorite of mine. Not a very efficient spell but it’s a pretty Funny//Salty play, especially if you get Revenge out early
Hey Demo, I'm trying to build a brew around Linvala, the Preserver, only has about 16 decks on EDHREC, wondering if you knew and good cards for lowering/ paying life in mono white? The card wants you to not have the most life so these cards would be amazing if you know any!
Video request: can u continue the "cards that break the color pie" series? I live and die by making mono colored decks work in an environment where everyone has access to multiple colors and tools (how i wished hybrid mana worked as in construced) and need those cards to support my decks, but they are hard to find
Effects like seek from hide and seek is crazy obnoxious because you get to look through your opponent's library to understand it's gimmick. And you can ruin an entire deck with the right combo piece removed.

You don't need the best cards to compete. I play a couple times a year and use my deck from 2016 when I do. Commander is so hectic it can hold up just fine
Another important note is that split cards have a MV of both costs combined so they can fill some slots if you require different values or something
Wow! You've convinced me, I need to look deeper into split cards, these seem really powerful

repudiate/replicate is in my adrix and nev decks. solid card!
Turn and burn is one split card I still use in my red/blue decks since it turns a creature into a 1/1 with no abilities and also does 2 damage
