This reminds me of a mushroom trip. But instead its fishing. The uncomfortableness of the cold, the non-necessity of the whole thing, but the commitment and optimism of the situation. Fumbling for snacks, awkward silences the whole thing
Yes! Visiting all the indie video stores, striking out because invariably there was only ever one copy. On that note, I'm convinced there is only one copy in existence and all the stores passed it around and shared it, lol. Anyway, I finally had to get a friend to mail the series to me from across the country. All part of the fun, right?
How cool is this??!! One of my favorite actors....so humble and dynamic, in my home state! Loved his Mainer accent telling that story! Complete with LL Bean boots and probably most the gear : )
Holy moly this is great. I remember when these episodes came out 20 years ago on public access. I think it was originally called Fishing With John Lurie. We used to sing the theme all the time.I think in one episode JL goes fishing with Tom Waits.
I used to watch this over 20 years ago on public access, too. I have the full box set on DVD, but didn't feel like taking it out. So great to find it on UA-cam. Best show ever!
When I watched Platoon I was teary eyes when they see Elias running from the VC ,when he falls and then gets back up then he raises his arms to the heavens, very sad powerful scene, he should have won an Oscar for that film i think he was Nominated , Tom Berenger was also fantastic .
Just D1z Fishing with John. Only a handful of episodes. Jim Jarmusch, Dennis Hopper, Matt Dillon, Tom Waits, Dafoe. That may be it. Short series and pricelessly ridiculous. Waits gets boat sick.
@@t.austinsabel479 boat sick, and pissy as hell. hungover is what. and held a grudge for years apparently. cuz he looked kinda wussy on camera i guess. "you set me up!"(down by law line)
Except for the 6'-5''... Willem's sure gotta lotta Chuck Conners look in him. Had the series not long after it came out & loaned it out to a coworker, who prided himself as a great Texas Bass Master. Next day he brought it back flopped it on my desk & said... ''What in the cornbread chitty ta chaw hell was that all about?'' Later in the day I'd taunt his bewildered ass with that little theme tune - ''Fishing with John''
When John passes out and is flat on his back ... who's holding the camera? ... Oliver Stone? Actually, if you look real close, you can see a McDonald's back in the woods. And, no, they didn't die. They were fired and replaced by Charlie Sheen and Richard Simmons.
i am almost sure they did this in one day. what do you all think? watch Smoke and Blue in the face back to back. check the years to see witch came out first. on January 19th John and Willem died...... of starvation. i cry laughing every time i watch it with someone new. first time i saw it on PBS was with friends doing shrooms Bob Ross was on then this new show came on.. hit hard

Man, I hate to be negative but John is kind of a clumsy whiner. It’s like watching a kid fish with his dad, Willem comes off as so much more mature and capable.
This feels like watching old videos of a camping trip between your dad and his friends or something. Incredibly soothing

Well Willem Dafoe was at the legendary Ice Bowl NFL game.
I remember back in the early nineties I had to try so hard to find vhs tapes of this show; now it's so easy!
BUT WORTH IT..Surely..2paraphrase.'Sometimes In this Crusty mine.@.y.t.'you do find a real gem.'..-Take care lol from .nz.

I woke up this morning with the theme song in my head. Havent watched this for 15 years. Love it
What show is this? I'm really interested!
Melanie, you are not alone. It just popped in my head...which led me here
That theme tune is addictive, I can listen to it many times but it always makes me smile.
The first line I can't really categorize, but "out on the water" is pure Lou Reed
Genuinely the best reality tv show of all time
"I get kinda sweet when it comes to bedtime." I would cuddle with you any day of the week, Dafoe. Embrace the infinite!
had that line in my head for YEARS like...20 years?
He's got a huge pecker on him, too! It's like a rhino shlong.
Right? He can cuddle me anytime 😅😏😍
This is the lighthouse
Came here to say this. LMAO.

The Prequel!
This is very calming, I'm glad JL did this show, every episode is just stellar
Sad to see two experts perish in the wilderness. This is nature at its finest
"These are real men, doing real things!" Can't beat narration like that!
RIP Willem and John...
What?
Priscilla C. Matthew must be drinking again?

Ok despite this, I can't wait to see "The Lighthouse". I hope John stays home.
HA! I described The Lighthouse trailer to my husband, and he instantly sang, "Fishing..... with John...." Bet Dafoe reached back to this.

There is only 1 Tom Waits episode
I just recently learned how much time Willem Dafoe spends in my home state of Maine....hope I run into him someday! That would be a dream
on pbs and later what was a great channel IFC now just junk. this episode cracked me up so much. miss dinner for five..
Such a fun series...
“I don’t take those things for granted.” Lol
I love the third narrator. That voice..
Robb Webb. 60 Minutes and lots of other stuff. As John Lurie put it, "The Michael Jordan of voiceover."
I’m from Maine and Willem does a great Maine accent
i love this ! especially the sheer terror in the announcer's voice v!
Awesome show, come to Wisconsin and I’ll take you ice fishing.
THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING THIS.

"These are real men doing real things." The narrator is often funnier than Willem and John.
@14:00 no Willem, he wanted to use the dog to get his hands warm but the dog realized this and ran away before he could
Dude this ending is too much lol
He sounds like the narrator guy who used to do the NFL highlights back in the 60's!
