thanks Neil at Italia Autos. - Авто та транспорт
Best of luck with the project, Neil. They are brilliant, very underrated, little cars. I sold my lovely deep blue metallic 1997 Barchetta in April 2019 for £2,350. It was garaged most of its life, central locking, long MOT, near perfect body, no rust and had never been welded, good interior with clock, radio and all speeds operating on the fan,, nearly new Yokohamas all round, new cambelt, water-pump and variator 7,500 miles ago, stainless exhaust and the equivalent in kilometres of 85,000 miles on the clock. The hood fitted well but was a bit tired. I suppose this project will establish whether I sold too cheaply or ....... I should stress on pricing, however, that we wanted the car to go to an enthusiastic new owner who would love and look after it - not a clown with his cap on backwards - and that meant more than cash to us (and I think from watching your videos it does to you). Insurance, as I’m sure you know, is no problem, even though it’s LHD, and super cheap. Some new parts are available from Partsworld. Enjoy.5
My B has 41k miles on the clock. I've owned it since new in 1996. Love of my life in pristine condition. Valued at £7k.(half the original purhase price). Great modern classic car. Shrewd move by you !
Thanks for sharing
With your knowledge nothing is expensive, I bought yesterday 159 2.4 jtd from mechanic as capable as you, cheers from Australia 🍻
Nice. Enjoy.
A bit of advice. Never close the hood like you did without carefully inspecting the creased parts of the fabric. Due to poor engineering, the metal structure tends to cut material like scissors. One wrong move and you will experience another dent in your wallet. By the way, it is very important to buy a new hood from a reputable seller because the dimensions are crucial. A properly made hood must overlap the seals and this will prevent leakage from anything that comes from above or reasonable angle. Be VERY careful when dismantling the roof seals because they crack very easily and cost a fortune. The variety of versions that sellers are not aware of does not help too.
Such a lovely little car this is! I remember a blue unit near my home when I was a teenager and I was just in love with it!
Great looking car, keep it and keep the wheels as they look really nice. Could be good for a few foreign road trips.
I've had a FIAT of some description around me since 1984, about 70 of them in total, then 4 years ago bought a Barchetta.
Absolutely love it, can't ever see me parting with it.
Lovely little motor. I had a mate had a Broom Yellow one when I had my Yellow Cinq sporting, always liked it. I'd say it's a keeper.
Nice one
Great project, look forward to watching it progress
You and me both!
Great little car well done it really should be a keeper good luck with it
Very nice Neil. Good buy, one beauty replaces another.
Yes indeed!
Bought one new in Germany when I was in the RAF in 1998. What a great little car. Travelled all over Europe and the UK. If I saw a good one now, I'd buy it straight off.
Bit like a bus I haven’t seen one for ages then I’ve seen two today this one and one when I was out on my bike this morning same colour too👍 good luck with the new project Neil
I've still not seen one other than this.
I saw a P reg silver in Preston when I was driving my P reg silver through Preston on Thursday! And then coming south from Glasgow yesterday spotted a yellow going north up the M6.
Was hoping for a Fiat 128 3p or Alfa but car still looks fresh looking forward to next video
Nice to see another barchetta being saved.bravo😎
Its been nice working on a differed car.
Awesome that you have bought a barchetta; have some free tips for you cus I have one too!;
The vin-number location on the passenger side gets rusty really quickly and killed a lot of barchetta's because the number wasn't readable anymore so make sure you protect it against rusting!
The radiator support bracket always rusts so have a look at that!
The windows have small plastic holders or something and break of easily and the window won't sit properly so look at that as wel!
Changing the belt and waterpump? I would also change the thermostat because they give up really fast and the car runs at 70°C mine has that too
I can get you in contact with a barchetta nut here in Holland with plenty of spare parts so if youre up for it let me know!
I do have an original radio because I've changed mine out for a better head unit for better sound quality. It still works but the buttons are a bit past their time so if you want an original radio to refurbish let me know!
Awesome that you have a barchetta so sticking around for these video's! Thanks ItaliaAuto's!
I have one aswell and had the chassis number stamped onto the front susp turret, so no probs now reading vin.
Really like Barchettas. Like the coupe, they look brilliant and I think are now becoming classics. Wise choice there. Looking forward to see how the repairs g.
The best roof and body colour combo youve got there 👍
Same below the skin as the Mk1 Punto.
Thanks! 👍
I've always liked these and I've had a lefthand drive GTV and that was no problem at all. Two of my favourite cars. Three if you include the Fiat Coupe.
I like it, that's a good buy Neil, I always wished they did a rhd version!
Nice. You should buy a Lancia Thesis...very rare, very Cool italian flagship...it would be a great car added to your collection. I own one...absolutely Love it. Cheers And keep Up the italian work!
With your expertise you will get it going in no time, these are great roadsters, ever so underestimated
Very nice car. I love the design of italian youngtimers. I've got Lancia Kappa coupe..they are pretty rare, they made about 3400cars,only left side steering . 2.0vt is a devil, ride with 3.0busso is a pleasure.
Very cool!
lucky you found those rubbers! they are crazy expensive (if you can find them that is). Good luck! I did a lot of work on mine! I love these little cars!
thanks
They were always a smart looking car & the silver/red combination really sets it off.
it sure does.
21:01 Quilted bonnet isolator. Genuine Italian :D
My Auntie had a yellow one...she's 95 now !
A cracking car - I've not paid that much attention to these previously, always thought they looked fragile but this looks a typicallly well put together Fiat. It should make a great project; I'll be following it with interest. Not sure about 17" wheels, I think it will be tram-lining; be interesting to see how it looks and what you think of it. Good luck.
a nice looking little boat you have there. you're right they are not that common on the roads, they weren't when they were brand new, mainly because they were LHD only.
Personally I would get it up together, use it in the summer, finish off the little jobs during the winter and then punt in on next spring, that way you make money and enjoy the car as well.
Wheels, keep what it has, the 17's will look silly on it IMO
Awesome videos mate:) got a fiat coupe partly because of your videos and now you got a barchetta your fixing up like same as me:) please do lots of updates and please lets us know prices on things like headlight replacement roof and so on good luck and hope it turns out nice:)
Great to hear! big update next week. ive been working on it most of thew week.
@@ItaliaAutos saw you have put a busso v6 from a 166 in a gtv, I'm considering putting one of those v6s in a coupe what do you recon? Know it's been done before so thought I would ask:)
Look forward to see the rebuild with this one.
more next week.
Hi hope u will like this one for yourself. Had one about 14 years ago and have gr8 memories from them times on driving it with roof off. Unfortunately had an engine failure and it needed a lot of work elsewhere so i scraped it back then without appreciating what lovely car it was. Now looking to buy one again only because of past memories of driving it. Gr8 video............
I don’t have time or the space to keep it so it is for sale.
I love it. I think there is only one here in Perú. Don't know if you'll make a proffit or not. But it sure will turn out superb. Body is super clean! Congrats?
We shall see
Great project and another interesting car .👍👍👍
Ok, things I noticed: Variator... get the calipers (!!!!!!) and you can do it yourself. Don't do it without calipers. Bumper: You can get them around 300 quid, same with front-lights. Damage all around is quite extensive. Given all the damage, 750 quid would've been a better price. Repairing rubbers can be done with Sikaflex. Those tan covers are for the hardtop. Clean the water overflows, or be in for a rotten floor. Feel under the carpet. When damp, take the entire carpet out (you can cut it in 2 in the middle) and hope it didnt rust too bad.
thanks
Outside looks nice and clean, no usual rear arch rust. However underside does not look too good in myy opinion. Many front parts would need sandblasting and powdercoating to make them last long. I've done so and am satisfied with the results. You can also check for rust inside side skirts, there are rubber caps in the rear wheel arches that give some access. Also there are holes inside cabin, at the left side of driver feet. I was surprised to find a lot of rust there this spring when I was preparing my car. 17s for me look too extreme, i went with 16s and am really happy. Good luck with the project!
will do! sounds like you have a nice one
Brilliant! Loved that Fiat Coupe in the best colour and The Barchetta, yes, love them as well!
that was painted a different colour red and no one noticed. lol
Best of luck with this one mate hope you have a decent amount of time grazie Mille ciao
The brown caps that were in the back are covers for the hardtop to cover up the nuts and bolts or whatever... The little light in the boot is for next to the ash tray, there is a little light there but mine doesn't work tho hahaha
thank you. looks like ill be after a hard top then lol
ABS light on ? Check the connector underneath the seats, they tend to corrode
I’d leave it on the standard wheels - they’re really pretty! It’s been a while since I’ve seen a Barchetta - I’d forgotten what a little gem of a car they are! Looking forward to seeing it finished.
standard wheels are now staying but they will be refurbed and new rubber fitted.
@@ItaliaAutos did you still have the two little pannel (beiges) that you founded in the back of your car?
You set the they are in different colour that’s because are for the hard top.
If you still have them 8’m interested to buy.
I drove one with 17s many years ago and despite looking too big the ride deterioration just made the scuttle shake worse. I would say no bigger than 16s, actually think the standard 15s look well
Yay, i was hoping for a Barchetta :)
Such a lovely car! I do hope you'll drive it for quite some time. Just a thought that came to mind when you had the bonnet up- why don't they make the battery trays out of plastic?
I’ve always quite liked Barchettas despite a Broom yellow one almost landing me in deep doo doo on the M4. Got me on national TV though.
oh dear lol
Always liked this car. Looks like a keeper mate but I reckon you can make a bit on this as well due to it's rarity.
Well im falling for it.
Barchetta, a nice and bullet proof car. Even Top Gear tried to kill one yeara ago and they couldnt. Grest fun those cars
I sold a couple of these at Platts years ago , always loved the Barchetta although the face lift was a let down . The earlier ones are much better looking . Such a shame they only made it as a left hooker
Yeah I prefer these over the facelift.
Nice car, with quite some work. I have one myself. The pneumatic springs supporting the roof look broken too. Also check the electric windows. If they move slowly and do not close well the white plastic guides in the mechanisms are.probably broken. And you actually should remove the floor mat to see if there is any rust there. Same goes for the wheel arches.
Thanks for the tips! as roof will be coming off ill check it all out then. windows are fine.
I had one of those. I bought it in Perugia in 98. And drove it all over Europe many times before selling it. I wonder where it is now? It wasn’t great on the autobahn and autostrade (it was too small and lightweight) but on twisty, hills it was great. Mine had a hard roof.
Keep the original wheels it’s delicately proportioned reckon it will spoil the look.
nice purchase, looks like it needs a few jobs to tidy it up, would hang onto it, looking forward to the repairs....
Fingers crossed!
Very curious to see how this goes, I like the look of these but I'd never considered owning one until I watched this
next week there will be an update.
Such a beautiful car, have always loved the styling, much nicer than the coupe. Keep it original, 17s would look out of place, can only increase in value, enjoy.
Well said
Maybe the best car, we ever had. After, I had a spider v6, and a lot more trouble.
Fiat Barchetta, very nice once repaired and cleaned up.
In Italy, you could legally only fit up to 16" wheels and the tyres of a particular size was homologated. Very strict rules on car modification.
Here in UK we are very lucky in that we can do pretty much what we want.
Yeah very lucky
ro63rto There’s a lot to be said for restricting what “improvements” that amateur experts can make to cars, everyone knows better than the designers and manufacturers...
It's so strange that many cars are much cheaper in GB than over here, M3's, VW's for prices of second hand rims. But when it comes to barchetta's, you can buy decent ones here for €3000,- that don't need new lights or a respray.
i would of looked overseas but with lockdown that a no go at the moment.
I moved to the US and I miss out on soooooo many good cars. YES YOU CAN MAKE MONEY!!!
Love this car
Very pretty little car, always felt they should've brought this out in RHD, it would've sold a lot better. Fiat always managed to come up with some cracking little designs over the years.
I was hoping at the start of the video it was an Alfasud. Still, good car with potential as long as you can get the parts. Concerned about the condition of the oil given the state of the filter.
Best of luck.
Cheers. Well I've been cracking on with it this week so hopefully a big update next week.
25 year old Alfasud is kinda impossible. I was hoping it was an 155 Q4, but hey, another old-ish italian car find a good home, so I'm glad. Cheers.
@@alf155v6 Yeah, I had an Alfasud ti in 1983, when he said a classic I got ahead of myself and missed the 25 year old reference.
I almost started working on my 155.
Geez! An Alfasud that hasn’t rusted away? That would be a find indeed!
Barchetta and Coupe were the last stylish good looking cars from Fiat...
yep. bring them back
As soon as I heard that diesel sound I thought yep needs a cam variator 😅
Blooming £240s now to replcement
I have the diesel sound on my 147/1.6.
@@ItaliaAutos and there has never been an approvement by Fiat on that cam shaft variator. One side spring , other side hydraulic. The spring always brakes. You never knew when it happened again. Could be after some hundred miles or more, but definitely after 10.000 miles. Takes 8 hours to repair.Reason I sold mine with 5 years only and 8000 km on the clock back in 2000.
Keep the original rims.
Great project. Looking forward to the updates on this. How about using a clay bar on the bodywork and compounding it to see how it would come up. My vote is to stick with the wheels that are on it.
at the moment im only painting the front end as i want to see how well the new paint matches the old paint.
Hi. Did you make a video after you had done all the restoration? Can't wait to see how well she turned out! 😊
It will be finished this year.
@@ItaliaAutos waiting to see that movie
Retain the original wheels. They are distinctive. Keep the auto yourself to enjoy in the summer months.
Agreed!
Great car ....great deal....shame you couldn't find a punto mk 1 gt
keep watching!
@@ItaliaAutos 😊🙌
That's a bonny little car, once you pulled the bumper and that dodgy headlight it looked better straight away, if your happy with the £'s then I think it's a result.
Leave the wheels original. Look forward to seeing it repaired. Good to see the little fiat's attracting a few quid these days. That oil filter is the worst I've ever seen. I need window seals for a cinq but I'm not paying £55 to the grabbers on fleabay. Real shame the greed on the internet. Maybe the present situation will calm prices down for parts 🤞
Great car , owned a couple '
For you you yes '
anyone else a disaster pay more ' otherwise you will be a victim to a Garage and labour rates and stories ...
thanks
For its age it looks a tidy motor .
Yes some “ Fettling “ to be done but good find ..
Underneath was the big surprise for its age 😀
Profit I would say good chance .
Nice one Neil 👍🏻
Right on
A little boat...😊
Very nice, don’t do anything with the 17”s it won’t suit the car.. looking forward to seeing where his one goes...👍
Thanks 👍
Keep the original alloys, they really suit the car.
UK answer to the Car Wizard.
Think I've got the original radio/ cassette from my Broom Yellow Barchetta. Worked at the time of removal and replacement with a Sony CD radio. Are you still interested?
yeah i might be.
@@ItaliaAutos Let me know
I bet Coupe 20v VIS 4 spoke 15" alloys would suit this.
maybe
Better than Mark Brewer and Edd China. :-)
one day lol
I'd expect you could make a few grand given what you paid for it. As you say they are rather rare on UK roads.
I think the original wheels should stay on it Neil , did I see the bonnet with a few dents ?
i think wider wheels would suit it more
17" would look so so wrong
What do you think of the '91 Alfa Spider S4 - any recommendations what to look at when buying one?
Never really worked on any
NEIL MATE , I'M SURE YOU'LL SORT THIS CAR NICELY AS THAT FIAT YOU SOLD EARLIER ( YOU MUST BE HAPPY TO SEE IT GO TO A GOOD OWNER TOO ) HE MAY BE INTERESTED IN THIS AUTOMOBILE AS WELL PERHAPS ???
cheers. working on the B today again
Based on the Mk1 Punto chassis.
yep
Think your quits in .. bigger alloys will be good and do you have any other mods lined up
What's the mileage on this one? As others have said, check for rust under the carpets (or at least a wet floor). Would be great to know where you source a new hood from - I'm after one myself. I say stick with the current wheels! My guess is it will be difficult to sell at 6k (or take a very long time)...
48000 miles
@@ItaliaAutos that's good!
Such a nice car! Wouldn't it be cheaper to import one from another country in Europe ?
i would of looked overseas but with lockdown that a no go at the moment.
Italia Autos ahh right! Because in the Netherlands You can pick up a decent Barchetta for around 2000 euro’s I think. Saves you the trouble of restoring it. Good luck!
Lovely little cars I'm sure you'll be able to get it better than new but don't take 2 years this time 😜
Fingers crossed!
i have one of these i am putting a new floor in it at the moment...having to make all the panels.......i like the damn thing.........it is like a mistress
glad this only needs a small patch
@@ItaliaAutos fingers crossed haha...the problem was with these is it rotted from the inside out..........DTR sportscars for a reasonable selection of spares btw.
Keep the weels; nice barchetta ☺
think im going to have to.
Good video i think you should keep it yourself
I might
I feel so sorry for your brits and your corrosion issues. Brutal
You're likely to have clearance issues with 17 inch. Stay with standard15 inch.
i think i will.
Nope, I had one of these with Mille Miglia 17 inch wheels and no clearance issues whatsoever
@@Jazda1Jazda not liking the idea of 205 40 profile tyres though
@@ItaliaAutos Check your email, I've send you some photos
Its me or you look younger everytime you buy a car?
That's the effect of buying the appropriate cars.
Cheap as chips in Europe, so for spares look at Italian, French and German sources.
thanks
that bonnet looks like someone walked all over it it's full of dents...lots of minor shit to deal with. paid too much bodywork respray tyres service variator suspension brakes exhaust.
Barchettas are nice cars, had a green one some years back. When it comes to leakage from the side windows, it might not be the rubber seals if they're not completely shot.
Often the windows doesn't clamp the seal as i should witch can be fixed by fitting these;
www.barchettaparts.com/catalog/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=214
Aslo changing the roof is not that complicated. Some glue and a rivet gun and you're half way there
How did the down pipe get hit but the sump looks untouched?
Without looking again. I'd assume its a bit lower than the sump.
@@ItaliaAutos
Had another look at the video and it looks like it's slightly higher up than the sump and then it's only one pipe that's dented. Odd 🤔
Nice. But it IS a money pit. All elderly fiats are.
A bit neglected. There will be a piggy bank... But if you don't regret the money save this car.
