    Ben Farnsworth and Pat Parsons were the best drive news team I’ve ever heard.

    I am 54 and have listened to CBS all my life. My favorite was always the World News Roundup. I was spellbound when they called in reports from those mystical far away places .I sure do miss hearing John Cameron Swayze.and so many others. Thanks to Charles Osgood for his hard work and continued perfection!

      I think Douglas Edwards also handled that.

    Never in my years of listening to Wayne Cabot from afar, is this what I would have pictured you to look like. My mental image was always more along the lines of John Blackstone.

    Neat to see the reel to reel tapes. I'm 60 so I know what they're all about. :)

      And, a lot of them are the nice Ampex ATR-102 decks that people still use analog tape like today.

    WCBS 880 AM is part of the fabric of New York City and America, as well as the globe. I guess 1010 WINS AM and 92.3 FM will be part of the fabric of NYC and the globe.

    I miss the personalities and buzz of that big-broadcast era. Gone forever. Oh, well.

    Great stuff. The best part of it being the vast majority of the people in this now.. 20-year old tape.. are still at the station. 1 heard through the network.

      With relatives in Brooklyn. Even in the Carolinas I would listen to Skip radio WCBS at night

    It's too bad they didn't get an air sample of that studio on the last day. I really wonder what it smelled like in there. I think indoor smoking was still legal in 2000 in NY, wasn't it? But, thinking of all of the chain smoking of people in close quarters that went on in there for decades that would have accumulated in sound deadening insulation and equipment racks, plus all of the dust that would have accumulated in so many places. With all of the wiring in a place like that, you just can't move stuff around to do any kind of deep cleaning. Probably a smell that will never be smelled again in history.

    They were still using the four-note news sounder in 2000? (My email sound.)

    • @Manunkachunk
      @Manunkachunk  4 роки тому +2

      Steve Prestegard The four tones on the hour ended in 1988. In the 70s there were four tones at the top and bottom.

      E Kop So much has changed but at our core we’re the same news station that refrains from opinions and connects with what people are talking about. I’m really glad you have stayed with us.

      Nice to see Paul Murnane at 4:20. I had the pleasure of working with him at WELI-960 AM in New Haven in the mid-1980s. He was one of the funniest people I’ve ever worked with. He used to prank me by calling into the newsroom from a prod room phone, pretending to be an old lady or a drunk. Got me every time.

    So so glad a sports station will be taking over. After all, we need more sports. 57 sports stations aren't enough. If you are stuck in traffic, I mean who cares if these guys tell me different ways to get home safely. Id rather hear the fu@@@ng score
