    Instructions were easy to follow and complete. Only difference in the video, the HD was fastened with TR6, they were TR7 screws on my Mac Mini late 2014. Thanks!

    Great video as others have mentioned. Simple and precise. May have already been mentioned, but from my experience here's what was missing: (1) you have to be careful pushing the logic board out as to not crush the fan's exhaust fins, (2) the four HDD bracket screws were T7, (3) the ribbon cable connected to the HDD is secured by a piece of black tape that needs to be removed so the SATA cable can be separated from HDD, and (4) reuse the black sticky pads from the HDD on your new drive and place them in the same location as old drive.

    great instruction. thank you very much. one thing not in this is when you go to remove the hard drive, there is glue holding the harness to the old hard drive and a piece of tape holding the connector to the drive. I had to slide a thin card under the glue and peel off the tape to free the hard drive from the connector. for anyone doing this, be careful with the harness and connector while freeing the old HD.

    Great video. They make this stuff so small anymore, it's difficult to do basic tasks like replacing a HDD. A standard 2.5" laptop HDD was 1/8" too tall to fit in my late 2014 Mac Mini--so I ended up putting the S.M.A.R.T. failed HDD back in the device and hoping Steve Gibson''s SpinRite will get it working again long enough to get a full backup. I got probably 80% of my files off it by booting into recovery mode (option + command + r), attach an external HDD and use Terminal to cp -R my volume. Will make sure I have Time Machine backing everything up first thing--then hope I can limp along until I can afford a replacement HDD from macsales. That way I'll know it will fit!

    Great Video. One of the best I have seen. Very detailed. If people don't have the special security T6 then can use a pair on pliers to grip and undo the screws at the bottom of the case.

      Everything is soldered on the 2020 M1 Mac Mini, you will not be able to upgrade anything. What you can do is connect an external SSD via thunderbolt port.

      @@pennmar120 No need to replace the HDD, you can just add a PCIe NVME SSD, the connection is right there just after removing the metal cover.

    • @simplitek
      @simplitek 4 роки тому +4

      The best way to do this is to run a full Time Machine backup to an external disk right before you disassemble the MacMini. Put in the new SSD, then boot into Recovery Mode by holding down Command+R as you turn the computer on. Then go into Disk Utility and erase your SSD and format it as MacOS Extended (Journaled). Then restore the Time Machine backup and you will be back where you were before you started. Except your Mac will boot up at least 5 times faster than it did before.

    Logic board won't come out. At all. I've warped the fins on the heatsink trying to pull it out. I'm happy I didn't pay for this thing, as this machine may very well not even see the light of day by the time I take it apart. :/

    I just ruined my sensor cable by following your instructions! At 2:20 you say to just unplug the sensor cable but it doesn't unplug and it broke off the section it plugs in to on the logic board. Now I guess I have to replace the logic board!!!

      Best to use a small plastic spudger to *gently* get under these tiny connectors and *gently* lift them up and out. Using anything metal is not a good idea. Using tweezers as shown in the video is, IMHO, a plan for disaster. 😞 And *never* pull on the wires. Get under the connector body and lift it up.when you put them back, lay the connector in place and gently press it back onto the pins. Go slow. Pay attention to detail. This stuff is tiny. Clean your glasses. 🤓 Use a magnifying glass if you need to.

    • @JT-mc3ek
      @JT-mc3ek 4 роки тому +1

      spat7378 yes good advice and I wish I did it this way. I’m lucky I only lost the infrared sensor function and don’t really use a remote anyway.
