great work. does ssp offer a burr sharpening service or must a new set be purchased?

They do but it makes more sense to just get a new set as the cost does not make much sense IMO.

I added a plasma generator to limit static and I wanted to be able to turn the grinder fully off.

Super cool! Did you check alignment?

Hello, thank you for your work. I like your videos a lot. I'm first time user of electric grinder and flat burrs. I have the same grinder with the normal SSP MP. Do you have any recomendations for RPM setting for more 'balanced' espresso? In the video you are using 600, but I guess you are sacrificing body for max clarity? I'm making tries on 1100, but the body seems thin. I'm not sure If my grinder is properlly aligned because my grind setting seem very low compared to others - 5 (zero set at almost first chirp). Also I'm using 3-something-bomber blind shaker which has some retention and I suspect this retention is robbing me of fines.

The mp will generally have a lower body, but you can raise the rpm to get some more fines. Lots depend on the roast level as well. I use it at 900 rpm. Dont know what machine you have, but you can lessen or lower the headspace, which brings more body as well.

@@decentcoffeeeveryday Thank you. I have GCP with 9bar OPV, IMS 18g basket. I'm waiting for my Gaggiuino kit.

what about removing thickness from the burr flat side instead of removing metal from the carrier? this way can swap original burr without issue.

    • @decentcoffeeeveryday

Steel is much harder then aluminum. That said it would be much harder to remove the steel plus you would be removing the coating off the burr. I had to remove just the lip on the carrier which did not affect the alignment flat surfaces and you can still use the OEM burrs or any others with screw holes.

reasonable. if i did it by trimming non cutting side of burr would use a machine shop with big lathe and suitable bit. why would removing coating on non grinding surface of burr effect gring or be detrimental to performance? rust/corrosion? stainless steel?

I am a bit surprised that the motor supports blind burrs, driving that much more power. Do you notice a big difference in taste? I was hoping that if the install was less cumbersome I would consider, guess I will stick to my SSP MP burrs for the time being!

The blind burrs do require more power but so far I have not issues. I had more stalling issues with the stock DLC burrs as they seem to be much more aggressive with how the pre breaker portion of the burr grabs the beans. With blind MPs so far no stalling and I used it with the lowest RPM. From what I have read no one is having issues stalling with MPs. MPs seem to have a more gentle way in how they grind the sound is much more pleasant compared to DLCs they have much more screechy sound. The cups are comparable to my 98mm HUs. So maybe the lack of screw holes make less resistance as all the surface area is cutting the beans and not crushing. According to Zerno blind burrs "Provides 8.91% more grind area" so how I understand it. The burrs act like 69.7mm burrs. So I'm quiet happy with it so far!

@@decentcoffeeeveryday 8.91% more area than 64mm burrs would be like 66.7mm burrs. You have to multiply the area, not the diameter.

@clborrello Now that I think about it, the blind 64 is actual 64mm. The non blind would be 8.91% less

Good to hear about the MP vs the DLC. I’ve been having some minor stalling issues even with a newer unit. Hope the change to MP tomorrow will help!
