    Hello, figure skating fans! Thanks for viewing this clip and making it so popular. We're in the process of posting our ice dance coverage to our site and will add links here as they become available. First up, our photos and videos of Maia and Alex Shibutani from PyeongChang 2018: www.meniscuszine.com/articles/2018042244947/pyeongchang-2018-shibutanis-make-history-with-ice-dance-bronze/

    Isn't kind of interesting that the Shibs represent a country that speaks English, Gabriella and Guillaume represent a country that speaks French, and the overall winners (Tess and Scott) represent a country that speaks both.

    Tessa and Scott are like, the epitome of grace. They're such good sports. I've seen it time and again with them, whether they win or lose. It's refreshing to see. The ShibSibs are also so great. Great competitors, great people. I was kinda hoping they could pull a second place medal, but there's always 2022.

    when scott and tessa were placed second in 2014 sochi olympics ..in the award giving ceremony they seemed so happy...scott jumped on the podium..hugged tessa..gently kissed her on cheek..they even cheered for davis and white...but look at papadakis and cizeron..what is their problem? they are outstanding skaters ..everybody loves them..but what's with this cold behaviour ...this was not expected...they should learn something from tessa and scott...little humble pie wins the race..SCOTT AND TESSA THE KING AND QUEEN OF ICE DANCE

      It's your opinion ; but i prefer to see P/C sad today on the podium and after in all interviews to be fair -play , with the winners and coachs !!! and stand up for the canadian judge ....they don't smile ok but they have any hypocrisy !!!
      I remember for Sotchi 2014 , yes scott and tessa seemed very happy ....but after ......they made more and more critics about the coach Mme Zueva , and also Davis and White .......you prefer the false smiles and hypocrisy ....it's .not my trip !!!!

    Someone tweeted that a commentator said: "We have Bronze on the right ans sadness on the left." Damn... The French could smile a little; you're Olympic Silver medallists for God's sake!!! Virtue-Moir is my favourite. BTW I love the 'Shib Shibs', they are so adorable, lively! They didn't make their whole world come crashing down just coz they didn't get Gold. They are totally soaking in the feeling of being Olympic medallists. Love their nature... Way to go for you cuties.

    So happy for Tessa and Scott. They truly deserved this and its really hard to imagine the ice dance without them. Also, happy for the shibs. I dont have nothing against the french pair but they dont pass me much emotion and passion on the ice dance. With Tessa and Scott you literally feel all the passion in their eyes and at every movement. 👏 Great olympics!!

    Scott and Tessa were so lovely hugging everyone before getting on the podium, including their biggest rivals this season. So refreshing to see good sportsmanship during these Games. And the Shibs were so cute approaching Scott and Tessa before they even went out! I feel the French were a little icy... I completely understand they were probably upset about missing first place and that wardrobe malfunction (as well as losing to their biggest rivals), which was probably overwhelming, but they could at least try to be more happy about getting on the podium and a little friendlier with the Shibs and Canadians.
    Edit: I realize now that the French/Canadians can actually commicate and language isn't that much of a problem for them, which only makes it more disappointing the French were less inviting and friendly, although it could just be their culture and difference in how they hold themselves as well as various other previously mentioned factors.

      the french have always supported those that they think could not threaten them in their standings, hence their support for hubbell and donohue. v/m routed them since they came back, and the shibs have always been a much bigger threat to them than h/d. i don't like that elitist arrogance of the french, as if their lyrical style is the only true artistic style of ice dance. they'll never match, much less surpass, the supreme masterful versatility of virtue/moir. the french will always rest on their lyrical laurels and not take risks

      Chrissy Senpai yes, I agree Tessa and Scott showed gracious dignity and I feel sorry for them that they weren't given a much louder, more deserving enthusiastic crowd response, (those that did applaud were great but there simply wasn't enough of them)....probably down to a long-standing 'grudge match' between fans of the French v Canadian couple which is a real shame and doesn't reflect well on the sport in general.

    I am very happy for Tessa and Scott. They will be retiring on top not only of their game, but on top of the world. They are the most decorated, the most iconic ice dance team since Dean and Torvill. For me they are the greatest and once-in-a-generation ice dance team. Now they are considered as Canada's hottest duo and already titled as superstars! Woooo!!! We are calling upon Prime Minister Justin T. to please consider the humble hope of the fans to have Tessa and Scott a STATUE in honor of the significant contribution they have offered and cemented to the sport of ice dance and for making Canada so very proud. I am a Filipino but for Tessa and Scott, I am a Canadian as well. We don't even have a winter season here in the Philippines. I have not seen snow for real in person but when it's about Tessa and Scott it feels like I have seen snow and felt how winter feels :) They are truly exceptional and inspirational.

      the french didn't deserve their scores to be that close to v/m's. v/m's scores should've been further higher than p/c's. p/c's skating/programs are always one-note with lots of open holds, dragging on ice, two-foot skating, and hauling gabi up unto their lifts. a lot of repetitive elements as well. not with v/m. v/m feature more closed holds therefore more difficulty, greater variety of edges, greater control on ONE-FOOT skating, tessa not being dragged by scott and vice versa, tessa doing more work in lifts than p/c ever will be willing to do. of course, p/c has greater disparity in their height and frame so they can get away with a lot of dragging, hauling and open holds. and that makes them look like they're "flowing". they'll never have the masterful versatility, technique, precision and total artistry of v/m

      zilam98 That's a good analysis! I'm no expert but I thought the French skaters were oversored quite a bit for their short program. I do like them but they seem to be a bit one-dimensional. Canadians have way more versatility.

      The Canadian team lacks some polite manners. You have to congratulate during the medal ceremony, not for the flower ceremony. Congratulation during this minor ceremony is a patronizing attitude.

    Papadakis and Cizeron... They're great! They got an amazing talent... And their technique was perfect.
    But... In Tessa and Scott, even I (an amateur to figure skating world) could see a connection, an enjoyment, and feelings. They're talented and everything just like Papadakis and Cizeron but their dance is just... hhh I don't know how to explain it but it's like they perform because they wanna perform and love to perform, not only because they want to win the competition.
    I'm not saying that Papadakis and Cizeron just wanna win the competition and not enjoying their own performance, and Tessa and Scott didn't wanna win the competition and just wanna enjoy their performance.
    But arrgh... you know what I mean.

      Tisa I think part of it is that V/M are more experienced and comfortable performing on an international stage as big as the Olympics. This is P/C's first Olympics, and both of them are still very young. I think they'll continue to mature in the coming years, and they'll be serious gold contenders in Beijing.

      @MC Wyman - I just want to point out that Tessa's and Scott's first Olympics in 2010 was against teams "more experienced and comfortable performing on an international stage as big as the Olympics.", and they won gold - and at ages younger than P/C at their first Olympics.

    The French were not ready to win. They got huge sympathy points in the short for dress slip....their free dance is good, very good but it wasn’t exceptional which Virtue and Moir were. they didn’t deserve to win .....if they think they got robbed because of the dress they are completely wrong. If they don’t understand timing in Ice Dancing they are in the wrong sport...for years Ice Dancing has been a waiting game ....and couples slowly move up as the best retire...I don’t agree with it but the French are young and will have ten years of winning gold now. I think they were gracious to Virtue and Moir. I think in the moment they were just upset at not winning....at least they weren’t as bad as the Canadian women Hockey team at getting Silver....now that was embarrassing as a Canadian. the Shibutanis were very very good and I just hope that being siblings in a facet of Ice Dancing that relies on chemistry between a couple isn’t something that keeps them from winning. They have the best twizzles in the game and are incredibly strong. I also think Hubble and Donahue were extremely strong as well and the USA should be very proud of it’s incredibly strong Ice Dance teams.

    honestly, I think the French just naturally have rbf, both of them. I don't think they were being petty, if you look at them from before they competed they have the same expressions. Do they need to work on that, yes, but I don't think they were being bad sports. I also don't think it's fair for everyone to sit here and say that Scott and Tessa were bad sports four years ago, they weren't, they were frustrated with their coach, understandably, just like any of us would be. So every one calm down, and try to be more understanding :)

How it is possible that in only 8 months all the couples ranked from 1st to 12th positions got worse? All together at the same time????? Do you know who is Didier Gailhaguet and what he did??? Read here from Wikipedia "Gailhaguet was a central figure in the 2002 Olympic Winter Games figure skating scandal, in which French judge Marie-Reine Le Gougne said that she had judged wrongly in the pairs competition under pressure from Gailhaguet, who was at that time the president of the French federation. Witnesses of Le Gougne's statement were Sally-Anne Stapleford (Great Britain), Britta Lindgren (Sweden), Walburga Grimm (Germany) and Jon Jackson (USA). Gailhaguet's chauffeur in Salt Lake City additionally testified to having overheard evidence of his involvement on the scandal". So simply SHUT UP.

    Leanna Caron, the president of Skate Canada, was selected to judge both programs in the ice dance competition. (Nine judges are randomly selected from a pool of 13 before each segment of the competition.) Both times she gave Virtue and Moir a score that was higher than the average of the other judges on the panel.
    And both times, she scored the French team lower than any other judge.
    After the competition, BuzzFeed News calculated what would have happened if the Canadian and French judges’ scores were all replaced by those of an “average” judge. In that scenario, Papadakis and Cizeron would have won the gold medal by 0.39 points.
    BuzzFeed News also calculated what would have happened if the scores of the French and Canadian judges were simply removed. In that scenario, there would have been only seven judges on the short dance panel and only eight judges on the free dance panel. In this analysis, too, Papadakis and Cizeron would have passed Virtue and Moir for the gold medal, in this case by 0.46 points.

    • @kokoadam4546
      @kokoadam4546 6 років тому +27

      V/M produced two perfect performances, P/C did not. There's nothing to be said once you acknowledge that.
      Buzzfeed also published the following,
      “Sometimes you’re on a panel where five or six people have agreed to what they’re going to do and what range they’re going to mark and how they’re going to go after a team,” explained another judge. In those cases, she said, someone who does not participate in that collusion, and whose scores therefore do not align with the others on the panel, “can look like they’re biased when in fact they are not.” That would certainly explain P/Cs grossly inflated SD scores compared to what they put out.
      And don't forget that P/C had at least three judges backing them up exclusively- the French, American and Turkish judges.

    • @richardmurray4042
      @richardmurray4042 6 років тому +22

      And did Buzzfeed calculate what the final result would have been had the French been given scores they actually deserved in the SD instead of the obviously inflated scores they did receive, both from the technical panel and the judges? There's no way that lift or the twizzles were level 4 and the PCS were higher than V/M. Absolutely ridiculous given the tentativeness of that skate by the French. Therein lies the real judging scandal. There was nothing wrong with the Canadian judge's scores - the Japanese judge scored V/M higher than did the Cdn judge. The American judges all season long have low balled V/M. At the GPF, the American judge had V/M in 5th! V/M skated two perfect programs at the Olympics and the French did not. The French should have been in 4th or 5th after the SD. Hopefully in the next 4 years, the French can learn to bring some variety into what they do and stop doing the same damn stuff every year.

    • @cliu6020

      The French, Russian and Turkish judges gave the Canadians lower scores than the average for the panel, and to the French higher, much higher. And don't forget how the skating judging scandal all started, with a French judge in 2002. The French have a proven track record of result fixing and influence peddling. Alongside their russki cronies.

    • @chriss1686
      @chriss1686 2 роки тому

      Hey genius, in the new scoring system, the highest and lowest marks are thrown out mainly because of the Russian, American and French federations playing politics, often fucking over Canada. The French fans who come around once every 30 years when they have a generational talent need to sit the fuck down and stop pretending to know what they're talking about. In 2014, V/M lost because the judges like W/D's "high energy style" compared to V/M's lyrical, intimate and technically skilled style and that's so say nothing of Sale and Pelletier the first ones in modern history to expose the corruption and revamp the system (again). The innovator of a bloody compulsory element in the old dance format tweeted about 2014's whack judging for ice dance, and the most decorating skating coach ever Tarasova has given V/m multiple standing ovations. I don't even need to drag that cantankerous cow, Papadakis that holds down Cizeron like a ball-and-chain to show you why V/M are the best ice dancers in modern skating history, bar none.
      And if we're just talking about this event, P/C were not deducted for the costume malfunction and should not have been within 2 points of V/M in the short program.
