Dude can not thank you enough for this playlist! I’m about to rebuild my top end and this is going to be a huge help.

Great video but I can't tell if both the exhaust and intake guides have a recess around the perimeter to accept the valve stem seals?

Yes both do on this head. I have heard some early 350s do not on the exhaust side.

Thank you so much for this video!! I will be doing this in the next week or two! How's the bike running? Any of the notorious top end oil leaks from the pressurized oil passages?

That bike has been great, and no oil leaks yet, i have had pretty good luck with the newer aftermarket gaskets so far.

@@DeWoodysShop cool, i am using nos gaskets, hopefully won't run into issues. why you don't have 20k views on this blows my mind! your video and editing skills are top notch, keep it up!

@@lifeofbob397 Thanks! it should be fine long as they are not too brittle. I should be building another one soon based on 400 cylinders and 6 speed trans also.

Hey mate, your videos have been a great help during my journey of restoring my CB350F! I'm currently at the point of installing the Alternator/field coil and the advancer. I've gone through all your videos and can't find where you cover these parts. do you have any footage of them. Cheers

I don't because my bike has a CDI. But I have the other 350f I built at the shop right now for a tune up and it still had the points so I'll try and record it.

hi. enjoyed your videos. im rebuilding a 1974 honda cb350/4 and noticed you have put valve guide seals on the exhaust valve guide stems. are the stems the original and does it give enough clearance to the valve springs. thanks martin

They do not bind on these heads. With that being said all three cb350f I have had or rebuilt had valve seals when I got them. I don't know if someone did in the past already? I have also heard that bikes built for California did have valve seals originally on the exhaust because of the tighter emissions. I don't know if that's true or not.

@@DeWoodysShop hi thanks for reply. I have a spare engine to rebuild as a spare and that only has the stem seals on the inlets. I will put them on this engine and hopefully have it rebuilt this month and let you know how it runs. Mi e was puffing out blue smoke when off and back on throttle. I’m using it fir parading at vintage race meeting s in England. It’s a Mike hailwood race replica cheers martin. Keep going with your excellent shows

Thanks Martin! Honestly i am not sure it matters all that much. I think it does smoke less, but both still smoke some on deceleration like you describe. I have tried both NOS Honda ring sets that have the one piece oil ring, and modern ring sets that have three piece oil rings. Between those bikes the one piece bike tends to smoke more, but under heavy vacuum that's to be expected. The 3 piece bike will smoke sometime if i have to do a long aggressive deceleration from like 75 to a stop after i have been cruising for a while. Both bikes have right around 1000 miles now since the rebuilds so they should be mostly broken in. With all that being said i think the majority of the oil burn on these bikes comes around the pistons. Since all of mine have had new valve seals but all still smoked some.
Finally on that, i notice on the crankcase vent has very little air movement on the one with modern ring set. But on the bike with the NOS Honda ring set i do notice a little more crankcase pressure compared to the other. On the flip side the bike with the Honda rings also seems to rev quicker and seems a little more powerful. Other than the rings the engines were built identically, have the same intake, jetting, and exhaust. I suspect this is because of the lower friction from the one piece oil ring, but that's just a guess.
Send a link to the bike! would love to see it.
