- Some models get to take it easy in June, but Indira Scott spent the first few days of summer in Paris for a busy round of Spring 2020 menswear shows. Her first assignment was Sacai, where designer Chitose Abe cast the Queens native to walk in her co-ed show.

Yeah what if a white girl was rocking braids and was told by a designer to lose them? Is that racist? Designers have a say and if it’s in the way of their design, they have a right to pick whoever they want displaying their clothes. Get off your moral high horse.
Mikey Sal what you don’t understand is that braids hold a culture significance and help with maintaining natural kinky hair. Kinky or Afro textured hair is prone to breakage and takes a long time to detangle and style. It’s easier to say that when you don’t share the the same background or hair texture. I’m sure you would feel offended if you were told to take of something that held a cultural significance to you

i love everything Vogue represents but would LOVE if they represented male models a little more too. i think it'd be interesting to see how male models get runway ready. i've heard a lot of misconceptions that male models are boring, but i know so many who have LIFE in them in every show (backstage & runway) like Alton Mason for example; he's phenomenal all throughout!

@James Dean Well I agree that any model's off-duty look can communicate culture and personality, but a lot of off-duty models wear a rather bland, corporate look, or an extremely simple look, or one only in line with current trends that doesn't have the history. To me Indira's look here isn't those.
Although those other looks have their virtues too.
Most models are young and young people tend to be liberal, so probably a lot are SJW's. There is a trend now where females want to be seen as more than just beautiful, but people with thoughts and ideas about the world. I love how honest she is about her braids and designers’ attitudes towards them - yes, designers should be able to envision their clothes on anyone, no matter their hairstyle, skin-colour or weight.

I heard that they usually don't do many short models because there's a universal size sorta thing that they make their clothes in to be sent off. That way they can make the clothes (cheaply) before having the model or something like that. But I'm with you 100%

I'd love more discussion around the invisible privilege of beauty and the hardships around being unattractive, but a big roadblock is that both beautiful and unattractive people mostly don't like self-identifying as those things.
Her mentioning ancestors, angels and affirmations is really refreshing. She also mentions the importance of perspective, which is undoubtedly true and life-altering. At the same time, I often wonder how much easier is it to have a ‘positive’ perspective when you’re a beneficiary of maybe the greatest privilege there is-beauty.
