She tolaretes you for the same reason we tolerate you and your facepalming-jokes: you're an amazing human-being! Congratulations on the engagement, and best wishes to both of you! =)
Congratulations and well done. You may just find she loves that cheap, hand made brass ring more than the engagement ring she picks out. A bit of advise from a married man. Don't question why they tolerate us, just be thankful they do.
My favorite part of this Video is where you used a plastic handled sanding thingy to hold the wood near the blade, thus protecting your hand. Do that more.
That isn’t a sanding thingy. It’s a hold wood near a blade thingy. Kinda like a push stick, but not for corners. I’ve seen them used a bunch on jointers. They protect you from blades as well as kickback.
Will you also show the ones you made for the elven-kings under the sky, those for the dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, and those for mortal men, doomed to die?
We made men's rings out of steel nuts in 8th grade metal shop just using files and sandpaper. If you leave one side flat you can make it a signet ring, by scratching or etching a design on it.
Congrats on getting married. I've been married for 15 years this year and can relate to "I don't know how she tolerates me." Love the ring and the ring boxes. I bet you could make a buisness out that!
I have an old delta table saw and an old craftsman chain saw. Those are the only two tools that still scare the crap out of me after multiple decades of tool work.
There are not many men who would have the thoughtfulness and ability make such a lovely thing for their fiance. Well done! You are obviously appreciated. Cheers.
If there was ever a man that needed to go back and watch the old Steve Ramsey videos with the MicroJig plugs in them, it's you! LOL good lord man! I bought a MicroJig before I even owned a table saw...
Congrats on the engagement! Sounds like things are turning around for you - glad you took the time for yourself, got life in order, and are marching full speed ahead!
Congratulations on your engagement box's...... and your engagement!!! I've only just found your channel but I love that you'd go to all those steps just to pop the question, then go ring shopping afterwards! To make the wedding bands, you could buy 2 gold ring blanks, with the correct internal size (go for a size or 2 smaller then you need so you can polish it to the right size), then pray like crap that you don't slip and trash one! Also there are lathe mounted ring holders, which are a little step up from the wooden dowel but could still be made by you. And a dremel with various polishing attachments would also help a LOT. I'd probably practice on a few more nuts first but it is possible. 👍👍👍👍👍
I made the box for my wife's ring from a case we made at work for USDA. Its a neat box. Wish I had a way to share the picture with you. Here's to proposing with our own boxes!! I made shipping cases for 8 years for a company called Volunteer Case and Container. Mostly for radiation detection equipment. twas an awesome job
As somebody who worked as a jeweller, I would say if you have the wax forms it's & tools it's easier to make the whole Ring yourself from Gold and such as the whole oddeal you did. Sure, you wont have a melting pot and if you start from scratch it's always kinda difficult to first get your wax Form (or a material which is comparable easy to melt out of a gypsum/caster), especially if you wanna make it fancy with cool forms and such. But the actually art of being a jeweller (Well, if you create / make your own stuff) is actually puttin' Jewls in it without breaking them (It's actually pretty easy to "break" a Diamond for an example), repair pieces (soldering Gold is kinda difficult due to his high melting point, Silver is kinda ok especially because you use a differen tool for that which is in my opinion easier to controll) and actually creating pieces from scratch which are really beautifull. Long story short: If you know a Jeweller, try to befriend him - Maybe he will let you use his tools / show you some stuff. It could be come handy for some Christmas Gifts and Jeweller - at least in my expierence - love custom made workstations and the standard ones already really expensive to buy. So maybe it would be mutual beneficial for both.
This is perfect! I'm going to do the same thing!!! It's extremely personal, and comes with a built in justification for all of the tools I own or plan to own.
Congratulations! This video is extremely timely for me, as I just inherited my grandpa's table saw and lathe. I may have to build a table saw guide tray like yours; it looks very useful.
Congratulations...very, very late...but still!!!!! I love your videos! I've them all MULTIPLE TIMES. Please, Mr. DUNN, put a safety guard on the rear fence of your table saw sled! Take it from experience, sometimes you get so focused on the cutting part, you forget where your hands are. We need you to be able to keep making videos! Your stuff is EPIC!!!
That is super inventive and charming. Also, if you needed a diamond you should have warned me before you made those table saw cuts, think I had sufficient pucker.
Congrats on the engagement and such a nice build on these boxes and rigns. If you're going to get your fingers so close to that blade, please get yourself a SawStop! (nothing wrong with your Craftsman... wish we could retrofit them with a similar nearly-instant brake)
Nice! I made a ring box myself... Well, not exactly a "box", but something a bit like the Faberge egs. Even if comparing my handy work to the masterpieces of art made in the Faberge shop... My ring box is more like a vaguely egg shaped piece of wood that is cut into two pieces and does have a small cavity inside, to fit a ring in it. For decoration i made a set of copper hearts, and added some glitter and other fancy'ish stuff on it... Even if my work compares quite poorly to the master jewelers of the russian royals, it is one of the finest works I have managed to accomplish so far.
Congrats! Those boxes look great. Last summer I had a similar plan and made my own engagement ring and box as well. I made my fiance's ring out of some half round sterling silver wire (8 or 10 ga.) and a pre-made 4 prong setting. It was my first attempt at jewelry making and for what I had in mind was pretty straight forward. it only required the wire and setting, 3 grades of silver solder, flux, a pick, a flower pot plate, and a MAP gas torch. the plate was used as a work surface to solder on, ceramic helps keep the heat in the metal. you also need a crock pot, salt, and vinegar to make a jewelers' pickle to remove any oxidation and fire scale. Most of what you don't have laying around the shop can be purchased from a jewelry supply store for about $30. All in all, it took me about two hours to produce a passable ring in my first attempt. I'd recommend you give it a shot.
2:15, dont do this way man, I did it once, and now I have forever reminder of the sharpness of the saws teeth. Take it from my experience, there are much safer ways to cut wood.
Yes, you are right, you should never bring your fingers that close to the blade. When the wood catches on the blade, it will pull your fingers with it, and it will happen faster than you can react. There are safer methods. You don't need to lose part of a finger to understand this.
Congratulations Robert. Now, to ensure that your fingers are ever ready to wear that wedding ring, take more safety precautions mate. That was DANGEROUS!
Gold plating problem...the plating will last for a very short time with constant wearing. I have plated hundreds of items with many of them being rings. It just is not made to last. Epoxies and other coating won't wear well either but can extend the life a bit. If you really want a plating that might last a while, try rhodium or platinum. Yes, I have used both of these too.
We share a sense of humour my friend. Your video's are entertaining and informative. What more can anyone ask from a video? Great job. Oh, and congrats.
after 30 years of dating and 24 of them married..... I still ask the same question... Congratulations, whens the big day... you know, so I can take the day off.............. awkward silence there..... I will end with, COOL VID once again.

At this rate not a chance
Or the tenth anniversary :)
But seriously, congrats!
Ah yes a furry, good to see another one in the wild (don't worry I'm one too)
Was the honeymoon working on the bus together?
Congratulations! You should definitely make your wedding rings!
I didn't think that one of your videos would break my heart this morning, but here we are.

Shiny! That table saw rings and rings in that shop area!
Keep your fingery bits attached too.
Nothing like the constant fear of a sudden amputation to keep a video interesting
You certainly are a crafty soul. She must have some great stories to tell her friends. I hope your happiness continues.
I gave it a thumbs up as a salute to your subtle diss to the safety patrol
Wow, those rings are nuts! ;)

9:04 Holy macarena... The brilliance of this man never ceases to fascinate me.
My friend's then-fiance made her a wedding ring from a curtain ring. She still wears it, four decades later.
