A hole in the middle of anyone’s chest is a pain! 😂 Easily rectified with acrylic putty, but beginners obviously won’t have any 🥴Great video, thank you 🙏♥️🇬🇧
AC/DC - Famous Australian rock band formed in Sydney in 1973. A.C./D.C. is an abbreviation for alternating current/direct current electricity. This name symbolised the band's raw energy and the power-driven performances of their music. It is pronounced one letter at a time, though the band are colloquially known as Acca Dacca in Australia.
I also got this in Lidl's August promotion. First impression when i opened the box was the really small scale. I have the 1/48th now and i think even that is too small 😂 When i was a kid i made my own out of cornflake boxes and it was about the size of an RC plane compared to this 'Micro Machine'
Thanks Gary, very informative as usual. Can't wait to see it made. It's always useful to see some of your tips and tricks for a better finish or to avoid any potential elephant traps. I have one of the other boxings with two alternative schemes, so I picked up two of these ACDC ones so that, hopefully, I can make all three schemes. By the third one it might even be a presentable build. Still can't quite make a success of rigging, but I give it a go. Anyway, thanks again.
For £6.99 it looks a decent Lidl kit. Unfortunately there were none left when I went to get one, either that of they didn't have ant in the first place. Cheers Gary as always.
Totally agree ...Using drills and having to cut stuff out , as well as bits of flash and injector pins seems like it would put new modellers off ....love the starter sets , but this one seems a bit more like hard work for a newbie modeller until they get a kit or two under their belts ....but suppose at £6.99 it's a good price to practice new techniques such as drilling and cutting lol
Quite so, but to be fair it was never sold as a starter set, it was a gift set. I think Airfix would do well to broaden the marketing gap between the two to help manage expectations. Skill Level 1 should be easily achievable by anyone whether experienced or new to the hobby. Maybe have levels 1-5 instead of 1-4?
My mistake lol , yes I made the same mistake with the jeep ,yes gift sets are probably the next step up from starter sets as they need a bit more work usually , still got to do my jeep and yellow Jack from last Xmas lol
Looking good Gary, I've got one courtesy of Lidl. I've also got a 1/32 matchbox one with float plane/ ski and canopy, Canadian Empire flying school options and crew figures, not boxed so not a "collection" kit. decisions, decisions 😁 James
It’s a good little kit, looking at mine whilst watching the review. The sprue gates do clean up easily, however the flash is much more prevalent in the Lidl’s moulding than the Classic Kit… As you point out, some parts are very small and fragile, without snippers I can see some disappointed modellers, but the wings assemble well, and the support struts really help in getting it right without resorting to a jig. Similarly filing/cutting the rear fuselage needs a lot of care. Compared to Airfix’s original Tiger Moth it is a quantum leap, that was a horrendous build before it ended up as a monoplane paint mule. I’ve got a couple of the 1/48 version to build and am looking forward to them, even the rigging!
Another great video Gary. I'm looking forward to seeing the build video 😊 I've got one from our local LIDL and it reminds me of those models that you used to get in cornflakes boxes.
I think when i come to build this il be very careful when cutting the smaller parts i did hear that if you put it in some blu tac it helps reduce the parts snapping dont know if thats an effective way plus it reminds me when i built the c-17 globe master as the landing gear legs was the same
Lovely little kit! I built this one a few years ago when it came out. For me the cutting out and replacing the fuselage anti-spin strakes were tricky, but only because I hate filling, sanding, priming, repeat! Im not 100% certain, but the strakes were a later addition? You might get away with ignoring them and doing it as when it was first delivered?
Humbrol 20 Crimson is a closer match, available in both acrylic and enamel. It also used to come in the aerosol "rattle-can" range, but I'm not sure if it is still available.
@@randalscott7224 Thank you very much. I have a tin of that so I can rest assured now. I can't believe the way these kit manufacturers make such mistakes at times!
I built the standard 2014 boxing that you showed, but my sausage fingers struggled getting the struts and top wing lined up..... Although I did finish the kit and I was happy with the end result, I must admit that it has put me off building any more 1/72 biplanes which is why my Swordfish, Gladiator and Dragon Rapide kits are still firmly at the bottom of my build list in my stash. 😂😂
Nice to see the exterior frames protecting fragile parts. On the subject of which maybe snip part of the /sprue/ with the part still attached and then sand the sprue off the part to dodge the bullet of stressing the part by cutting it off the sprue. Am I right that the hatch behind the cockpit is for storage? The figures agreed are poor with prominent undershots on /both/ and I'm assuming they are /not/ interchangeable as the one has his legs cut off below the knees. They look like the generic /heavily/ used Airfix pilot figures with the usual flat hands on thighs and no attempt made to look as if they are holding anything. High time IMHO that Airfix did a /separate/ aircrew set of various scales - like they already do with stands. Then modellers who want crew can buy the set and those who don't won't. Airfix dodge the expense of moulding aircrew fit /any/ kit and consumers get more choice. Everyone wins! Agreed about the skill level. I /think/ Lidl probably just asked Airfix for Level 1 kits, and Airfix have dropped the ball with this one. Even in their own range it shouldn't be a Level 1 IMHO. There should always be advice for the supervision of adults. Oh.. does 'supervising adults' mean they are the ones supervising? My mistake *lol* Have you ever flown in one Gary? You've not mentioned it if you have *innocent look*
I’m nearly finishing this build and it was a pig. Joining the wings together was so difficult. Parts are extremely tiny. There is no way this is a level1 kit. I had too many issues with it. It is what it is I guess.
Either you have very big hands Gary or this kit box is about the size of a kitchen match box. On small aircraft 1/72 is really not the best scale to build except for price. On larger aircraft its reasonable. 1/72 must be cheaper to mould and more profitable. The Tiger Moth is a great aircraft, it would make a better kit at 1/48. Cheers Bob
Cool model. 👍
For those about to Rock
we salute you

I was more concerned with the second one who looked like he had a hole in the groin.

Your right only second kit in 45 years and I didn’t enjoy it at all, also wings looked shite when painted using brush

Probably will work - also prevents them pinging into the mouth of the carpet monster!
@@garys_stuff oh yeah im forever loosing parts so will give it a try on my current build red tail p51

@PeterPie132 the funny thing is, Hu 20 Crimson was the recommended paint colour in the original release. I don't know why Airfix changed this.

Not one of my favourite kits. Just take extreme caution when dealing with the wing struts as they have a tendency of breaking.
The Airfix 'blobby' pilot figures are a disgrace. Is it low pressure moulding? Is it the plastic? They never used to be like this.
It's not low-pressure moulding, it's just bad moulding control and bad quality control.
But why just the figures?
