I really like how you present this to total beginners without talking down and still being of interest to people who have made a few kits (although might not be experts). You can watch some programmes on UA-cam and the models are fantastic but way beyond anything I or many people could do. Your channel is a breath of fresh air - your mission statement seems to be, just enjoy it, its supposed to be fun! Too right.
I think that this video was a perfect one for those people who are very inexperienced at building kits, well done Gary. People have to remember, its a starter set so the video needs to be aimed at those who are most likely to buy a starter set.
You'll enjoy building it, no vices apparent! Just taken mine off the shelf and I wouldn't be too concerned about the interior, you can't see much, I did add a generic offcut from a spare control panel decal, but even that is barely visible. Mine was painted with ATOM paints & I used the yellow decals as templates for painting them.
Brilliant that a toy I enjoyed as a young boy is still available nearly sixty years later. Shame that kids aren’t interested in Keil Kraft flying airplanes but prefer models that fly straight out the box. 🙏🏴🇬🇧♥️
Think this kit is ideal for someone who might want to get their modelling mojo back 😂. I for one will give it a whirl. Will do the world of good for my modelling sanity. Will earmark it for a day during the Christmas holidays. Thanks for sharing Gary (and ignore the odd negative comments you get mate) Keep it going bud 👍
I think the call out for where to find theee part on the sprue is a nice touch. I do quite like the humbrol brushes, so they are always welcome. Looks like a nice little mojo build
I have a lot of G-6 and a few matchbox F's. Most of my 109 kits are Heller since I got a good deal on a bunch of them about 20 years ago. Need to buy some Airfix E's. They will be expensive as well since I live in rural western Kansas. I hope you are well for the holidays.
Great video Gary. WRT the glue, in their Starter Set videos Airfix say to cut a piece off the box to use as a glue palette and a corner of the box as an applicator. I think that's recognition that they are imprecise, but until /Humbrol/ change the product Airfix are stuck with it. Howevrr I've just looked at Humbrol's Adhesives and they /don't/ sell the tube glue. What they /do/sell/ is a 20ml precision 'Poly Dip' more akin to the Revell Contacta design (product code AE 2720). IMHO that would be a better choice for a Starter Kit, but I bet it's more expensive. Having said that as Humbrol don't sell the tube glue separately they could save a lot of money by not making it /at all/ and just getting Airfix to supply the Poly Dip stuff. The Hints and Tips sheet would be good to laminate and/or stick to a wall. Even experienced modellers sometimes need a reminder :)
I've raised this with Dale on many occasions. In the past (way past) they included the precision glue in gift sets, but that stopped a long time back. My guess is they've got a warehouse of millions of the things and they're told they have to use them. One of the joys of there revell starter/gift sets of old was getting loads of Contacta bottles, albeit small ones. Yes, use a bot of the box as a palette but I'd say something like a cocktail stick as an applicator. It's like the paints, Humbrol is getting better but they are stuck with loads of Gen 1 in those tiny pots and they are often terrible. It's all about managing the first experience someone has of an Airfix kit. Also, they go down really badly on bare plastic - Airfix says it recommends priming the kit first but where does it say that in the instructions? What kind of primer does the newbie use? I have managed to paint a starter set with the Humbrol No.2 brush and the paints as supplied by doing several coats, the paint thinned with water, plenty of drying time between coats, etc. Especially if it has been washed first.
@@garys_stuff Agreed ref the user experience. Hobbies are supposed to be relaxing and fun. The glues / paints in a Starter Set make it neither sometimes.
@@blarrrggg not sure of how Revell work the deal, but Airfix get their kits made specially to order for Lidl and Aldi, which is why there are no Flying Hours tokens on them. Apparently the margin is too small... Maybe Revell supplies from stock rather than bespoke moulding so can't cut quite as much. Just a thought, I have no definite info on it!
Those tubes of glue were terrible back in the day, and no better now. They get even worse if you hold the tube and warm it up, as it just comes out uncontrollably. Thee top of the included paint pots makes a good place to put a dollop of glue, then use a cocktail stick or shaved down match to add the glueKeeps it off the fingers and off the model except where you want it! Revell at least gives you glue with a longer thin tube, so you can aim the glue a little better.
Some people like to see what they get for their money before deciding to buy. This one I'm going to build as well. That's a different video. Other things I build might not still be on sale but viewers might have them in their stash or get them from second hand outlets. So, thank you for your input but I think I'll keep doing this the way I do it.
Dude, when it's your full time job and you are at the mercy of an analytics engine that uses likes and notifications and subscriber numbers to help determine how much you get paid, it's kind of your bread and butter. I've cut it down a lot over the last year, but I'm not going to drop it altogether.

That's precisely;y my point Andrew. At the end of the day it's a hobby, and hobbies are supposed to be for fun.

It's not a bad little set, but my one has warped wings.....cant notice it for the most part, but when looking at it from dead on, you can see it.
It was designed like that so it could fly in circles 🙄😂😂🙏🏴🇬🇧

Nice kit of the Bf109F-4. It is very straight forward just how l like them 😀l decided to do my one in a desert scheme 👍
Yes, it reminds me of the Hobby Boss Easy kits, but a little more sofisticated
Well, a good kit for beginners, not bad at all.

Cool model. 🛩
I bought the bf109 and spitfire set and havent touched it yet
I've just got an Airfix G and I will be getting an E to go with this kit

@@garys_stuff the revell sets seem to be a few £ more expensive over the normal kit versions compared to airfix

you mention the box art. But that's a JG 77 Jabo - hitting a tank with a 250 kg bomb. Neither rack nor bomb are in the kit - or on the artwork.

I don't like the shadow stand at all. They should go back to the good old clear stands; would just need a few different sizes...
Wow I learned how to open a box... build it and then rievew the whole thing

What, the video or the subject?
STOP telling people to like the video and so on!! Instant switch off for me.
