Just ran my first half marathon this morning. 1h28m50s on the clock. Very happy with that result but never satisfied. Great inspiration Nick, keep it up!
@@samisavola863 I have been running some weekly easy miles for around a full year now but I’ve only incorporated tempo workouts 2-3 months before the race. I’ve been boxing for 10 years though and so my cardio was already decent.
Watching your journey to this marathon has inspired me to run my first 10 mile, work my way to a half marathon, and a marathon. Keep pushing and doing great things, Sir!
Hoping to hit sub 2:50 at the Utah Valley Marathon on June 4th. Here we go!! UPDATE: Qualified for Boston! Watching Nick Bare the night before might have helped haha
Appreciate your prep vids Nick. I've got a 10mi race in Aug I'm training for. I'm excited to see where the journey of running takes me afterwards. Keep BPN clean & built for all of us athletes because we love it!
Just started running again, honestly I’m just pushing to complete a mile run without stoping right now. I’m using a back pack with 50lbs. I appreciate the dedication you put into your videos. Thank you!
Take it easy on your joints. Knee replacements are painful and expensive. Backpack runs are the reason a lot of military guys have serious joint issues later in life.
Hey Nick You’ve inspired me to run my first marathon I signed up for the Des Moines IMT in October and I did a half about a month ago and came in at 1hr 52!:)
Had an encounter with Runners Knee on my last 30k (2 weeks ago). I still feel a little tightness in the knee. My marathon is next Sunday. Going in cold on that 3-week no-run taper. Wish me luck!
He's truthfully leaned out good. I'm training for the Copenhagen Half Marathon. And I'm watching these videos for motivation. Because the production and video editing is so good. Bruhhhh, are you on Strava I want to keep up with what you're doing.
@@George-nx4bp he different different, yet from his first marathon ever to now. It's doable. I just wish he would accept people on Strava so we can learn his paces and intensity on this stuff.
watching these vids I've learned that Nick is some kind of automaton - cool. Also that no matter what if you run long enough it's going to be muscle wasting, this is the leanest he's ever been. Finally, the power of consistency and a good team behind you can do wonders.
Interesting. A lot of professional athletes would taper by reducing volume but keeping the intensity. So the ratio what would go from say 80:20 (low intensity: high intensity) to closer 60:40. Where the overall kms are reduced but your still doing pace sessions (all be it closer to goal pace and less reps) This results in recovering the body for the race while having the added advantage of dialling in your running pace.
This is exactly what I thought when I watched this: Every single book I've read on marathon training (e.g. Jack Daniels, P&D) suggests that overall volume is reduced but some intensity is kept, albeit at a proportionally lower volume. I've followed this approach myself when I self-coached, and now that I have a coach he has programmed the same approach for each of the 3 marathons (and 2 ultras) he has coached me for. PS - When his plan for the taper shows up at 11:38 he's still got one quality session in there per week, so what he's saying to camera isn't quite right.
Thanks Nick, been following along this marathon prep as I’m doing my first one also on the same day may 29th. Near Adelaide in Australia. Thanks for inspiring so many people to be better in all aspects of their life. Go one more let’s go!! Wish you all the best for your race 🤟🏼
you couldn't have posted this in the most perfect time, i got full marathon coming up in 2 weeks thank you for this, its so weird since i have been doing alot of triathlon training which goes against what i should really be doing which is marathon training haha
Awesome to see you and Cam together! I'd been hoping for that for a while! Based on the fact that a lot of your tempo work has actually been run a bit faster than you had targeted, I'm betting we'll see a 2:40 or 2:45 finish maybe? Excited to see the results!
Thanks again for great content, Nick! A suggestion/request; would you consider including an additional graphic in your videos that shows your running pace in both miles and kilometres? The other half of the world operates on pace per kilometre, not miles. I spend a lot of time pausing your videos and converting your pace into kilometres so that it makes sense to me. I'm sure I'm not alone with this. Thanks again for your great content 👍
You should hit sub 2:50 for sure, you’re noticeably slimmer now than before, it’s going to be easier to hold a faster pace with less weight, you got this man!
Nice vid Nick! Think you'll definitely get that sub 2.50. I'm going for sub 3 hours on Sunday at the Edinburgh marathon. Had a slight shin niggle last week so resting up a bit more on the taper.. Got a 1.24 in half marathon 2 months ago so feeling reasonably confident..
Great video - the only other thing I like to add to my taper is the mental aspect. Use that time stretching and doing yoga poses mentally going through the race. Visualizing different pain or challenge points and how you are going to keep you mind on track etc. I find that goes a long way come race day. I like to start right from the time I wake up race morning. Visualize getting ready, walking to the start line, the gun going off, the first 5K etc. I walk though it from start to finish over and over and over so when the day comes it's just automatic from the moment I wake up.
Great video! I’m in the middle of my taper as well for my first half marathon this Saturday, cool to watch your journey as I go through mine. Good luck in Buffalo!
Should have started the thumbnail with the Cam Hanes part because it go cut off in the title description on my recommended page! Marketing Genius if I do say so myself.
Nick & team- A thought. You could give a public gym another go? That could have a bigger footprint as it would be a somewhat profitable enterprise. That could also be a flagship facility and have a whole room for product. Consider it maybe?
Im missing being able to cruise at around 6min/mile pace. i got caught in an inside heel hook in jiu jitsu and it tore up my knee bad. cant wait to get back to those times
Hey Nick i just ran a 3:05 marathon and im trying to get ready for the Boulder 70.3 Ironman. Any advice on swimming temp control or distance training intervals? Any advice would be much appreciated thanks.
Hey Nick, you detailed your running volume/intensity taper before the race but how does your strength training also taper. As an athlete trying to balance both running and strength fitness on a taper before the Old Dominion 100 mile ultra in 2 weeks your insight would be appreciated
Nick - Curious on why do you run on the right side of the road? I always learned it was safer to run on the left side so that you can see oncoming traffic..
Good luck on your race. You have worked so hard for that time goal. Hopefully you have good weather and have the race of your life. Can we follow you during the race? Not sure if youre putting out that info. Dan
Yo nick your vids have been awesome. I'll be running the buffalo marathon with a few buddies rocking the bpn gear. Do you know where the 2 mile "shake out" run will be? It would be cool to have an opportunity to do that with the bpn crew.
Great video I just feel I would understand more if you told us why the word "taper " is used. Sorry dumb question but is it supposed to be like a measuring tape ?
Volume is down for your taper BUT 8x800 at race pace in the last week is maintaining intensity. You gotta stay sharp. I'll say this again, you gotta love your dedication to the sport. I'm learning a lot. Also, I'd love to see you kill some 5K's. I think you could run 3.1 miles at 5:30 pace or faster! PS: You're looking mean and lean. Shedding those five pounds makes a difference. You got sub-2:50 in the bag.
Perhaps you could talk about why one would carb load? With gels and quick carbs available nowadays vs 30 years ago, carving up should not make much sense. Especially when one gains a few pounds, making you slower. 1kg of body weight added can make quite a difference… Thoughts, Nick?
Currently 7:53AM in Buffalo. The race stared 1hr 23min ago. Does anyone know what distance Nick is at? He needs to have reached half distance if he wants to achieve his goal.
Nick, my brother in Christ - you don't need to say "minute per mile pace" after each split. We know it's a mile! 😆 Great vid big guy. Go rock it in Buffalo.
