This was super useful. I have a MK3 that had an oopsie and lost all its oil and wanted to check how much damage it has caused. It's comforting to see someone else do it and be prepared.
I think they are literally paper with some copper spray on them. They definitely look home made. Well, one side at least. I haven't actually removed the other one yet, it seems stuck on with red silicone!
Hi Simon, what is it about old English stuff that people collect the same things. My boss has also bought a Mk2 so that when I get bored restoring Riley's, I work on the Vello. It's worth joining the Vellocette LE club in England, a lot of knowledge and experience to be found. They also have a good supply of parts, but if you can find a new wiring harness, let me know. Keep up the great you tube vids. Cheers
That was very interesting. Whoever had that before you did their best to get all the goody out of it! I was wondering, does that engine fire both cylinders at once? The guy that designed it started with a clean sheet of paper that's for sure... I've never seen anything like it.
No, they fire alternatively. If both fired at the same time you'd go nowhere as the firings would stop the crank I imagine! It's a 4 stroke of course. The question is what's the firing order? 1-2 or 2-1 :)

These comments are helping me get motivated on working on mine again now, thank you!
Thoroughly enjoying your teardown. Keep up the good work!
Be careful with those head gaskets Simon, they could well contain asbestos.

18:50 Squished up copper pipe are good the original were steal and rusted away.
I did clean the existing pipe and they seem good. They have the original silver paint on them under the red something repainted them with.
