Around Square-Enix going 'multi-platform', I'm just being realistic, but that doesn't mean they'll release FF7 REMAKE on Xbox. It just means they won't lock themselves into releasing only on Playstation or only on Nintendo. If a game releases on Playstation and PC, or Playstation and Switch, that counts as multi-platform.
Final Fantasy games have ALWAYS done badly on Xbox. Final Fantasy XV, the previous mainline Final Fantasy game (which was actually the most western friendly FF game ever made and should therefore have done really well on Xbox) only sold 1.1 million copies on Xbox One, versus 5 million copies on PS4. That means out of every 6 copies of FFXV sold, 5 of those copies were for the PS4.
Sony only had a one year, and separate half year exclusivity agreement for Final Fantasy VII REMAKE. Their exclusivity agreement for the game ended well over 2 years ago, and as soon as it did, they released the game for PC. There's nothing stopping Square-Enix from releasing the game for Xbox, other than Square-Enix themselves. So they clearly don't think porting the game to Xbox is worth the effort.
Based on all historical data that points to Final Fantasy games not selling well on Xbox, people shouldn't expect this news to mean that Final Fantasy XVI or Final Fantasy VII REMAKE will suddenly drop on Xbox. I think the future of Final Fantasy on Xbox largely depends on whether Final Fantasy XIV (the MMORPG) finds success on Xbox or not, if Square-Enix considers it a failure, they'll likely think twice about doing further Final Fantasy releases on the system.
It is what it is, you can't expect them to port these games to Xbox if people aren't buying them.

The one thing you guys in that great conversation missed about games is Square Enix now chasing trends. FF16, which is a Main FF title played like a MID LEVEL Western RPG at best instead of a traditional turn based or even Action RPG. They already lost the trust of its fanbase as it is and Once it became too Western, and the FF16 gameplay was MEH, they lost the hardcores who've been loyal to them,they were doomed to fail.
All the square Enix poor sales came from nintendo, which is why they want their games to be on Playstation only. Because they lost billions messing with nintendo.
Great games sell a platform, Playstation doesn't have them ready and they do not have Square Enix as a crutch either!
