I have done this many times of owning Dixie Choppers for 15 years. You do not have to remove blades or the spindle from the deck. All you need is a block of wood and 2 lb sledge. You can use sealed bearings but they go bad also. If you want to use greaseable bearings, they sale them, one side open to grease. If you have sealed bearings, just take off one side of the seal bearing. The sealed part of the bearings go to the outside. You can then pump grease until it start to come out the bearings. New spindle assembly only cost $55.00.
You do not have to remove the spindle assembly, just the spindle shaft, and then replace the bearings.
John where do you get one for 55 bucks, you must be talking Rotary or Stens

You will need to remove the seal from one side of the bearings so when you grease them the grease can get into the rollers and add life to the bearings.
Just make sure when installing the bearings the seal are outward.
You can rebuild the spindle with it installed on the deck too.
I may be a little late but, you can look into the gator blades G6 for your chopper I recommend those. Very heavy duty. Good luck
I am replacing mine today, mine are all original, machines a 2005 w 1250 hrs.... trim side is a little loose. Mine doesn’t have the snap ring on top like yours , it’s not like my older 2001 Dixie it Justin came apart, this one I came on here to find out how....thanks for the video , I should shoot video of mine once I figure out how to get it apart.
Did you end up getting them apart? Mine doesn’t have the snap ring either and I’m trying to figure out how they come apart.
The ring spins off. It is threaded to to the spindle shaft. There are 2 Allen Screws that you have to take out first.
How do you get the nut off that holds the new pulleys? I tried blocking the blade but the nut turns the entire shaft
Mine doesn't have a key ring to remove, it has a large silver disk that is held on with 2 allen screws. I removed them and the disc still does not move. Looks like it should slide right off. Not sure what's going on. Any ideas?
I'm sorry, maybe I missed it but what are the new blades you like? I've had the worst time getting mine to hold up with 5 acres of grass. Thank you for the video, this helps a lot.
He's using Rotary brand, I've been using Rotary and found them to be excellent quality. His are # 6833...which are 24" x3 for 72" inch deck. # 6180 are 20-1/2" x 3 for 60" deck. I use 6180's on my 60" Classic and they hold up great. This model blade is high lift with 8" cutting edge. You can go to rotarycorp.com to find your parts and a dealer in your area.
@@joeboyko2138 thank you so much!
Need a diagram on a Dixie chopper deck spindle
N
Mine doesn't have any side to side movements just up and down wonder if I'm just missing a washer
yes
I got the pulleys off with an impact driver for the main nut. Now I am trying to get off a silver disc that is held onto the shaft by 2 allen screws. Looks like it should fall right off but it won't budge. Mine doesn't have a key lock like yours did. Any ideas?
I need this same question answered!!!!
There are 2 Alllen screws on the ends of the silver disc. On mine there were 4 holes but only 2 screws. 2 holes were empty. Once you get out the Allen screws out the disc should rotate off the shaft
Nice job, where do you buy bearings, and seals?? Ebay?? Thanks
