Great tips Hayley! So glad I have found your channel, we need more Aussie content rather than the usual US based "I walked the PCT" stuff. Thanks for posting and giving Aussie hikers something decent to watch!
Yes its great. It’s lined with fleece on the inside so you flip it inside out when it’s night time. I used to use the little blow up pillow by sea to summit but I find this is comfier😊
That thumbnail is giving me major deja vu, I've definitely sat on that exact wooden table and walked through the tree's at 00:14... By any chance is it on a trail between two bodies of water that goes over a man's chair overlooking a flower petal?
This video was the most helpful packing a backpack video I’ve found! I have several packs, but one in particular can hold the most accessories. I’ve been trying to find a way I can pack it for a combination of backpacking and fishing. Every time I’ve tried, the pack doesn’t sit right. But your idea of counter balancing makes so much sense I’m going to give it a try. And you are the only UA-camr that I’ve seen even mention the counter balancing with the heavy objects.
Your tent is at the bottom but it will be the first thing you need when reaching camp. I see many people doing this but never understood it. Get a pack where you can lash it to the outside/rear bottom. This also leaves more interior space for long food carries.
Thanks for this video, everything makes perfect sense how you pack it. Looking forward to more dehydrated food videos, you look like you always have something yummy to eat on trail!
Great tips. I generally prefer to have the sleeping pad a bit lower so it doesn't snag if bush whacking. It can still bump into things lower, but around the hips it often feels like it throws you off balance less.
Great video! I’ve seen the how to pack a pack graphic so many times but I think that was the first time I’ve seen someone actually demonstrate it…nice touch showing the liner separate as well. What pack was that?
Enjoyable video. Great ideas. I have orange paracord ties on my first aid containers. I generally hike and camp with a quarter staff with an adaption of a hunting arrow in case of predators, which I have encountered.
Absolutely helpful. Thanks for sharing these tips. Guys I recommended you visit the himalayan mountains k2 and Nangaparbat view point from one place moses peak.add this sound in your bucket list.
Great video. Only big difference that I do is pack the tent last. Since it is the first thing I grab when I get to camp it’s nice to have it on top of all the other gear. I know some people strap it to the outside bottom of the pack as well but I prefer inside the pack. However I might strap it to the outside top of the pack if it was really soaked from rain so the rest of my stuff stays dry.
Good evening, This makes me feels like such a noob to watch lol but I really am a noob, my bag seems way to full at already 10kgs without food or my water, I literally stood there dumbfounded lol, so thank you I think I went all noob and got to many things lol,. thanks for the tips I appreciate it .
@settohike +Lol most definitely, it did occur to me I had so many bits of clothing so gave even more away, I think I'm ready for the kms ahead..thanks for the tips and good humor
I’m only new to using a water bladder 😊 do you get a plastic taste with the one you use? Also just wondering what tape you use on your knee? Many thanks 😊
bladder buddies! 😂 I never had a plastic taste with the one I have. The brand is Platypus. But the other one you see in the video that my friend has was from Macpac and it had a major plastic taste!! So i'm guessing different brands getting them made differently. (Especially these two they seem like they are made from entirely different types of plastic, not that I know anything about plastic haha) And the tape is kinesiology tape 🙂
Some off gas differently/residue and just giving it a soapy wash gets rid of most people's issues them. That said I haven't washed mine Kriga and had it for years.
@@settohike heck no! It’s totally relatable and understandable for sure 👏👏 Makes for good content because you deliver your messages, your personality is authentic and we as the viewer are engaged and get some laughs in…. It’s a win win 🤩 Keep it up! Just stumbled across your channel and glade I did. Happy trials
May I ask how big and heavy your backpack is? You seem to be rather short so, when full, it must make up a comparatively big percentage of your body weight. I can imagine a subpar backpack to cause you issues somewhat early.
The mountain patch is the one that is already on the Hyperlite pack when you get it. So I’ve sewn on the other patch, then put one of those gear aid patches behind it on the inside :)
I hate those sacks with straps people call 'ultralight packs'... You literally can't pack them efficiently no matter how hard you try. Due to the fact you are just loading shit on top of more shit, you can't see if you've got massive gaps between items that could have been filled, thus showcasing you could have used a smaller, better-fitting bag. My 55L Tasmanian Tiger Modular Trooper Pack fits more in it than those 60-70L ultralight packs, chiefly because it's a clamshell-opening pack which allows me to see EVERYTHING as I am still packing. I will never get sick of making ultralight wankers jealous of my shelter, sleep setup and cooking gear at every stop - shit, I even took a lightweight fishing rod on my most recent 300km trek through the Arctic Circle at the beginning of 2023 and cooked up some delicious freshwater fish. Approximately 99.9999% of these ultralighters can't hike outside of the nicest, most temperate/comfortable months of the year. The more I hike, the more I realise why most people who call themselves 'thru-hikers' can't follow me to the kinds of places I hike... Next stop is the Dasht-e Lut Desert in Iran.
Sounds like you havent found your packing method. The bag used in the video is a 55L and is showing a basic 3-4-day setup, they do have a 70-10 for extended trips and a smaller bag for day hikes.

A dry bag pillow,. what a great idea. I never thought that there would be anything like that around.

A thorny old topic well executed with a level head and some great tips.
Thank you kindly 😊
I don’t have ultralight gear, but I’m gonna give this a try. Thanks.
One thing worth mentioning is to let everyone in your hiking group know where you packed your plb and first aid kit in case there is an emergency
Check about 0434. There you go

Being on the bottom isn't an issue when packing vertically, as you can just reach in and grab it out.
Packing weight lower will end up hurting a lot of people. If it works for you, then great, but this is best for your back.

I like the vertical organization of your sleep system in to your pack. I never thought of that, thanks.
I truly enjoy your content so much! Your content is the reason I got into hiking last year!! I am so happy that I found this channel ❤❤❤
Thanks Hayley, I never thought of standing the sleeping bag upright in the pack, will try it and see if it helps
Hailey, you have done it again... another great episode with your witty humor LOL.

I think tent should be at top last thing to pack away first thing to get out and ensure still have access to some food.
I like the tent outside of the liner, and outside the pack when wet. ✌🏼
Hi, great video, very well made. How much Is the weight of the backpack, all included, maybe with and without food and water? Cheers from Italy ✌️🇮🇹
Great video as always 😃
Why thank you 😀😀
glad i found your channel, im Uk based but heading to Australia in November to visit parents and i cant wait to9 hike over there
great vid hailey. good to see you making more content. I assume your internet is finally back lol
Hahah yes it finally got connected in January. Been spending 2024 playing catch-up!
Cool video!! Since I am mostly hiking in Europe I go to huts and get away with 30L, in summer with even below 25L. I missed a towel? On your list?
new subscriber just binging my way through your videos, thank you for sharing
Welcome aboard! They get a bit sketchy the further back you go but I certainly appreciate the binge! 😀
Was going on a hike this weekend, turned from a two day hike to a one day hike. But I will remember this video for summer and vacation! :D
I hope you still had fun! Haha yes this video will be ready and waiting for you in the future! 😁
the orange snakes Haley, for the win. 😊
Hahah there were 4 snakes in that packet I had, but none of them orange! You must of eaten them before I got to the packet 😛

Do you glue your patches onto your backpack or sew them on?

Sorry, I did mean Hailey
I was thinking the same ❤ love that spot.
what is the total weight of backpack
Milk Bottles? Come on Black Cats rule :)
packing a bladder... having all the small bags and sacks around your items. nope thank you. for me also to many lose items in the pack at the end...
The only thing I disagree with is your lolly preference 😁
Hahah what is your favourite? I mean if I had a choice I’d choose chocolate over lollies in the first place 😛
@@settohike lol, I'm the weirdo that eats all the green lollies, not mint ones, the other green ones whatever they're meant to be.
@@justo316 haha yes I agree that is weird 😂 although you would be great to share lollies with then, there would be no fights!
I carry more weight and regret. Climbing a steep mountain, i feel like throwing everything and hike nude. Life is not a piece of chocolate
Disagree
Like this chick knows anything about backpacks.
I know, right? It's almost as if she's using her experience to help others, seems pretty sus.
