I used to play in a hardcore band in El Salvador in the early 2000s. Somehow, one of our shirts and our album made it all the way to Mr. Vinnie Stigma. He sent us a picture of himself wearing the shirt, and that was a major highlight in our career. It was incredible for us, a band from a third-world country, to see a true legend like him rocking our merch. Best episode ever-it's going to be hard to top this one!
He has mad respect for the Latin punks- Roger and Freddie are Cuban. Plus Union 13 and The Casualties (Jorge) is Mexican so I bet he understands the privilege to play music- rock on amigo
The story he tells at the church is one of the most fascinating bits of Italian-American Roman Catholic history I have ever heard. It could be a whole movie itself; the story of a young kid with an idol of a saint, being chased down by the mob.
@@DrewKane honestly, it could be the story of a Saint too in its own weird way. Saint Vincent Stigmata, who kept a sacred piece of cultural heritage out of the hands of a scumbag like Gotti.
This episode is sooo amazing. Stigma showing and talking about everything in the neighborhood is the best. This should win some kind of 2024 podcast award.
I know Bo and Colin are not people of faith, but I deeply appreciate how respectful they are towards Vinnie as he shares about his faith and how it sustained him. There are those of us out there who do believe in a higher power, but instead of trying to control people, we work to make sure that higher power is known through justice making, serving, and loving one another.
@@plumbunrecords518 Amen to that. The fact the last cup of coffee didn't have enough to fill the cup all the way and Vinnie took it right away so the boys would all get full cups speaks volumes on that man's character. Idk why, but it just does, fuhgeddaboudit
Vinnie is really a fine ambassador/tour guide for old NY. Such a personable, colorful guy. He can sure bring these stories to life. This was such an enjoyable video.
Saw AF like 2 weeks ago in Munich Germany and Stigma is still a machine at this age. Guy has more energy than most teenagers today and is a big inspiration for many people. Peace
Finally, early 80's hardcore. My favorite era of hardcore. This is easily the best Hardlore Episode, great episode interviewing the legend Stigma! Loved hearing all his stories.
The story about the Pete Steele Magazine prank is amazing. Voorhees played a few UK shows with AF in the 90s and decided to prank Vinnie by telling him that when it comes to money in the UK "the bigger the coin the higher the value", so he was cherishing all these 2p coins over £1 coins haha, legend.
Hahah that's amazing. The dude who was on last week has an amazing Stigma prank story too. Remember that old pre youtube meme video of the dog doing another dog and vomiting? Tom didn't know if Stigma would remember him after seeing him 15 years after Indecision toured with AF. Stigma comes up to Tom going "hey kid, you still got that video of the two dogs fucking and one of them vomiting?". Tom remembers that everyone had it on their laptop and tries to figure out if they showed it to him or something, all while Stigma goes "i've got my eyes on you, kid" multiple times over the night. Later on realizes the timeline didn't add up at all, so Stigma just linked him to a loose date, said that and had him think about it all night. So fucking funny.
Could listen to Vinny all day he’s a walking lesson in NYC History he represents a city that doesn’t exist anymore now filled with Whole Foods and Chipotles .
Two minutes into the episode I realized that this must be the best Hardlore episode yet! 🎯 I was also at the Dynamo Eindoven in 1995. The ticket cost 25 guilders (€13) back then. That was the first time I saw Madball. (also Type O Negative, Machinehead and Nailbomb) Best concert ever ..117k people and no cell phones !
As someone who grew up watching the metal documentaries and all the stuff on vh1 classic i can't tell you guys enough how cool it is that y'all captured that exact vibe for hardcore. This is not just an episode this is like a film it's just so cool what you guys are able to do and I can't thank you enough for doing it

I have met Vinnie Stigma many times in my HC show days and he was always so respectful to me. I cherish my photos with him, a true gentleman, every time. I was one of the few females in our hc scene back in the early 90s. ❤
Thanks Vinnie..you are a true legend..and nothing but mad respect..AG and Madball are two of my favourite bands…thank you for sharing your thoughts and your neighbourhood..NYHC for life..🤘🏽 From the west coast of Canada
I 1st met Vinny & Roger in 1992 in Bristol England, was introduced to the by my mate Gabba (was and still is Chaos UK guitarist). I was halfway through prospecting for 1 of the big 1% clubs at the time. Fast forward to 2004 and serious injuries have ended my 1% career and I'm reunited with Vinny, Roger and the Gallo brothers. For the next 6yrs I spent many good times with the AF lads and in 2010 Vinny and me decided to start the Vinny Stigma Over 50s Club with another 3 Brits. Was only 5 of us and already we were older than the United States. Haven't seen AF since 2014, I dont go out to gigs, pubs etc due to a brain injury from my Army service BUT Vinny my friend Mad Danny is going to make sure I'm at your next gig in Bristol, England so come back again soon mate🇬🇧
Sad to see his entire neighborhood sold and gone away.. Its probably for the better old NY was not friendly, but something about this reminds me of my father giving me a tour of his old neighborhood. Lots of memories but everyone and everything is gone(almost). Like your walking through a dream, you can feel the souls of the past, but you wake up and are filled with a haulting loneliness. People used to be a lot tighter and these fellas lost their entire society.
This should go in a hardcore museum somehow. Growing up in NYC its amazing watching people witness this stuff for the first time. The amount of culture even on one block is more than some states have
That Beer Olympics at the Masquerade was fantastic. I think it was in 2000. Long story short, Vinnie Stigma actually helped me out on the 2nd day of that show while I was getting an earful from a cop. I had gotten kicked out at one point on day 1 and snuck back before getting asked to leave again towards the end. On Day 2 a cop outside was "warning" me, and Vinnie came over and kinda smoothed it over in his typically charismatic fashion and turned it into a non-issue. Incredibly classy guy who really loves hardcore punk and everyone in it from the bottom of his heart.
Brilliant video. Vinnie is one of the wisest and funniest people alive. 100 years in that apartment which is probably rent controlled, why would he ever leave? The rent is probably less than most people pay to park in Manhattan
Stigma is indeed “The Most interesting man in the world” I highly suggest buying his book. There’s a couple stories he tells in this video that are mentioned in greater detail in the book! Legend
This is amazing, I’ve been hoping to see AF on the show for a while. Something’s Gotta Give was the first hardcore album I ever listened to, of course I love em to this day. Stigma has got some serious lore
I've always heard Vinnie was a great guy. One of my hometown heroes and friend, Brian Craig - drummer, played with Turmoil and toured Europe with Vinny in the early 90s. I think it was Madball, not AF. The stories he told about drinking and hanging out with Vinnie where the Berlin wall had been... great stuff. RIP Brian, always remembered and always loved.
Vinnie starts the show by taking them St. Patrick's Cathedral and introducing them to Saint Rocco of Genoa. That Italian-Catholic heritage, it runs deep, even for those who are no longer a part of the church (like myself). Incredible stuff. Hardlore.
