Honestly although the BF1 war stories were way better emotionally and story-wise, the fact that the BFV stories have the characters speak in their original language instead of english with some accent over it gives it so much life and immersion
But the Last Tiger was really emotionally in my opinion. I loved playing it and was Close to tears at the end
@@benflaig1345 Agreed. The Last Tiger was the best story in the campaign.
Why is it so rare in game to have native languages in English versions? that’s so much better when people talk their own mother language, it looks even more authentic
You can set the audio to whatever the language is. I love playing the italian campaign and it feels better to set the language to italian
@@maxime_627 because you'd have to coordinate with multiple studios and agency's for voice talent. it's a lot of money.
Though BF1 has this but only for multiplayer. The war stories are done in English while the multiplayer does indeed to native languages for every single faction
I'll at least give credit where credit is due. The fact that they are actually speaking in the correct language is always a plus.
@XZDrake and the accent is an insult to me. It's clear that it's done by french white people

On a side note, this is why having an officer is vital. Idrissa was right, and not because he was worried about his family. In the context of this game, they should absolutely have waited for some form of support. Any coordinated German counter-attack would have wiped them out.
What started out as a company of soldiers whittled down to 3 men. That's a tremendous waste of life in the pursuit of glory. And in most circumstances, morale would have broken long before that.
speakdino10 I don’t see it really as a victory. What started as more than a 100 men ended with less the a dozen alive or injured. If the Germans had any reinforcements in the area they would’ve easily pushed the Senegalese troops back into the swamps of southern France.
This is supported by the fact that the French main force literally shows up right as they take the castle
Not necessarily, they would have orders given to them already and any officer or nco present would be trained to act within the boundary of those orders or there duty. That being said they were a light infantry unit and traditionally most of there duties would have been to scout the enemy, attack small or equal size units and relay the information about large units. The only reason not to engage any enemy is if they have sniper support or they are heavy infantry or cavalry as they would stream roller you.
My grandma’s uncles were all tirailleurs. None of em came back, some fell in “Bataille de la Marne” others in Verdun, and some of them just vanished. To this day we always feel like theres a huge gap in the family. From my fathers side however those who came back, were slaughtered by the french army upon arrival in Senegal because they were on strike for not being paid.(Thiaroye camp massacre)
the french did the same to algerian troops after the end of ww2 check ''8 may 1945 Algeria''
My Moroccan ancestors were drafted to fight in the sicilian front along with senegalese and other africans one of the units apparently liberated a town in italy all by themselves using only LMG's
I am sure your family suffered but the revolt you speak about made "only" 70 victims and it was after they took an hostage among the personal of the camp. So don't blame the French for ww1, the proportion of French not coming back was higher than the one of the colonial units, so the colonial units were treated better. And as for the revolt... shame it happened, both sides made mistakes but in the end it's a punctual incident

Senegalese Tirailleurs... Splendid work.
They weren't that many senegalese tirailleurs in WWII, that was in the Great War. In fact, the biggest french colonial troops were coming from Maghreb. Especially from Marocco and Algeria, and this is one of the reasons that will lead to a discontent or antifrench feeling in the region after the war ended, eventually leading to the war of Algeria, which was very unpopular, and discredited the army from popular opinion, it is believed to be the dirtiest war France ever fought in (the war was based on the escalation of violence, massacres were committed from both sides, and the algerian civilians suffered a lot. Many of the french soldiers came back from the war with the sentiment of being nothing but murderers, and it impacted a lot the France of 1960).
Still it it an outrage how they were treated after the war

Castle itter should be an after campaign mission. After watching the credits, you are put into the mission. Kind off like the extra area in that one COD game, but a full, although shorter, mission.

This was my favourite War Story. I loved how you weren't just a saboteur or a rebel but an actual frontline soldier.

I like it cause you don’t feel like some superhuman like the first 2. That’s why the last tiger and tirailleur are my favorite
The French colonial troops especially the one you play here actually fought very well. Especially along the border during the initial invasion. But when the Germans took prisoners especially SS units, the black soldiers of France were executed. The ones that got away continued to fight the rest of the war. I'd say it was a historically accurate war story.
The 12 yr olds will get triggered by this comment

Berzerk Llama But not in 1944
During 1940 they did though
Nick Lawson But it's more obscure to other countries. That's why I like how this game highlighted them. I had never heard of the Tirailleur until this game.
The War Story about the Norwegian was definitely rewriting history though. That mission itself was an actual historical one (Operation Gunnerside), but in real life it was carried out by Norwegian commandos with help from the British. It would have been cool to play as the actual people who took part in the mission.
"When the french army liberated Paris they replaced the blacks with more "familiar" faces".
When you notice that the first troops to enter Paris were actually Spanish republicans... now there is a story that has been erased from history books.
Actually the replaced one is when they decided on a parade. They whitewashed the row replaced the colonial troops with white french soldiers
It's not erased, anyone who reads about the battle knows that the republicans spaniards fighting under the free french were the first in.
Or that Removing the Black soldiers was a condition.... from the Americans "The leader of the Free French forces, Charles de Gaulle, made it clear that he wanted his Frenchmen to lead the liberation of Paris." "Allied High Command agreed, but only on one condition: De Gaulle's division must not contain any black soldiers." In January 1944 Eisenhower's Chief of Staff, Major General Walter Bedell Smith, was to write in a memo stamped, "confidential": "It is more desirable that the division mentioned above consist of white personnel. I have told Colonel de Chevene that his chances of getting what he wants will be vastly improved if he can produce a white infantry division

This was my favorite War story in BFV, mainly because its the most action focused and its a more traditional "Soldier story" since its mainly about a group of soldiers overcoming their adversities rather than just one or two people.
While I appreciate them giving some attention to the lesser known forces like the French Colonial troops, the way it portrays them being treated is simply incorrect. While I'm not saying they didn't face discrimination because they certainly did, during the war and post war, it makes out as if the French army treated it black soldiers like the U.S army did, which it didn't. The French army had used colonial troops for hundreds of years so they didn't have to "earn" the right to fight because they had been doing so for a long time and were not segregated from the white troops.
I think a better story would have been to portray a unit of French soldiers, white and black, fighting to hold the German advance on Dunkirk and when the battle ends and they surrender, they stand tall knowing that they have done proud by themselves and their comrades, but as they are taken prisoner the white and black soldiers are separated with the white French soldiers being marched away into captivity and the black French soldiers marched away and executed. That would have presented a more stark picture of the attitudes of the time.

Wouldn't the tiger burn then detonate?
The Teletrap What? Forgot to lock it? The commander of that Tiger popped up through his hatch to kill them both but he ended up dying which then allowed Idrissa to drop his grenade in.
Got em
That makes no sense. The german tank commander opened the hatch to observe the battlefield, which in turn gave Idrissa the momentum to shoot him and drop the grenade inside the Tiger.
Even if he didnt pop out, some commanders and tank crewmen dont lock their hatches in case of emergencies and quick escape. Especially in certain German tanks where you literally had to crank the hatches open just to allow it to move
They couldn't even be bothered to model a MAS-36 or Lebel M1886
@Darth Maul Yep literally running on the same engine. All it would take was some importing of animations and skeletal meshes with their textures.
@Darth Maul Technically they wouldn't be able to use the Lebel from BF1, as it is an older Lebel, chambered in 8mm lebel. By 1940, the french army had switched to 7.5 french, and the lebels still in use were substantially modified to accept the new cartridge. The rifle became much smaller, with a pityful three shot capacity, and was issued to non-combatants. The african troops fighting in the french first army at the time depicted in the game would have carried a mix of M1 Garand, M1 Carbines and Mas 36. Occasionnaly you would find the odd Berthier or Lebel, but only on non essential staff, like cooks or artillery gunners.
The models they do use look a lot like Canadian Ross mk3 from the great war.

Man that comment section is salty. Yes, the French had colonies, yes they did some despicable things, yes, they had colonial troops, some of whom fought bravely, some of whom were cowards, some of whom fought willingly, some of whom fought reluctantly, but all of whom France was lucky to have in their fight to retake the mainland. Black Senegalese soldiers were often overlooked and underappreciated for their outstanding bravery and courage that played a huge role in fighting the Nazis and without them, it would have taken longer to win the war. And they were key to success in the battlefield. Divided we fall and together we stand. Always remember that.

All the armed forces did this under the orders of the United States (the United States also asked to separate the black French soldiers from the whites), except that there France left some of its black soldiers, unlike other countries .
Having the German air force in this battle is highly unlikely
They were nearly destroyed by American-British bombing of factories and air fields. By 1944 the German Air Force was basically wiped out so having them as a major fighter in the battle is inaccurate. They were either destroyed or in battle with allied fighter planes.
That's not totally true papa stalin. During 1944 and even 1945 Germany was producing A LOT of planes. They made underground factories which were more productive than the surface factories. It was truly impressive. The more factories the USAAF and the RAF destroyed, the more underground factories popped. What Germany was lacking by the end of the war was simply experienced pilots, like Japan. And of course the lack of petrol. So in 1944 the Luftwaffe was giving her last sigh but they could still fight.
+_jeff _ Not really. They manufactured the fock wulf “long nose" which was way more powerful than the P 51. But yeah it was really not easy to make the me 262 fly even if once in the air those 30mm could erase a b17 in no time.

This and the final tiger is the best WW2 story I've ever played in games. The forgotten hero of WW2. We don't see this much in movies.
I like the general tone. Howewer the whole thing looks like an american writer transferring his nation's racism issues to France. According to wikipedia, the american restrictions on the size of the free french army were the reason why DeGaulle disbanded the Tirallieurs (after the liberation of FRANCE, not Paris) and several conflicts arised around the very mundane fact that the french refused to pay them their wages (which were fairly owed to them, of course).
wtf? why the french tirallieurs have kar-98k?
Andres and german beltbuckl
Yeah the Kar 98k was the standard issue rifle of the Wehrmacht. The French did not use them.
Picked up in the field.

Im reading these comments and i have no faith in humanity. Battlefield is a game loosely based on actual events, they didn't happen exactly like the story is portrayed but they did happen.
Look it up France, UK, Belgium, and U.S. have always used African, African American Asian, and Arab soldiers in their armies for years. They treated them like dirt and did not speak of their battlefield achievements because they were seen as beneath them and unworthy. Look it up even today decades later these countries are now giving these men the medals they deserved now that the truth is coming out.
Also alot of the soldiers in the colonial army were forced to fight a war for a country that occupied, pillage, and raped them routinely. So to the guy who brought up rape by colonial soldiers, it goes both ways. I dont condone rape but in every army there are rapists and murders among the ranks, it not just limited to a certain group or country.
StarDark4 b-b-but EA is essjaydubbyah propaganda
StarDark4 pretty much there’s a killer in all of us. EA doesn’t take that message...
UA-cam is an absolute cesspool though, comments here are universally awful. I'm nonetheless pleased at the inclusion of this campaign in the game and the attention it has received, for most people this is a very positive thing, mainstreaming neglected historical viewpoints.
Well said man
You seem to miss the point, it's not denied they used black troops, but it's forced down our throats. Plus these guys were war criminals.
It's amazing how many armchair historians these videos are dredging up. Why is it so damned hard to simply appreciate a well-made game with a human story?
это история лжи
Because it’s not a well made game and the ‘human story’ is made-up, revisionist history.
@@shmeagolIt's not revisionist unless you're saying the Tirailleurs never existed... in which case I'd say you're an idiot and you need to read a fucking book.

It's an agenda to include a story about colonial troops in a setting that has very rarely given black people credit for fighting in the two biggest wars, apparently xD

Algeria was created by France to welcome the nomadic peoples who were oppressed by the Ottoman peoples of the time who were in this area.
The Ottomans who were cruel to them (torture, slavery, etc.) and especially made pirate raids (yes, before Algeria it was a pirate den).
So no, the Algerians were not conquered or massacred... on the contrary, we beat their executioners, and created a country to welcome them and give them a home (and again, it was not a country, but rather a French region).
For Senegal it is even simpler... we came, and we helped the indigenous people... as with many indigenous people.

Still over here bawling, years later. This was the best war story.
This game handles battles very well, but it doesn’t show harsh realities of the actual war. Many soldiers had different personalities meaning some committed crimes without being caught. This game doesn’t really show any of that. Like some soldiers who try to frag their own Soldiers or Commanding Officers, over anger or PTSD. I’m not a historian, but I’m sure a lot of crimes have been committed during this time...
If it showed everything that happened in war they would have to label the game adult
Myric this game isn’t supposed to be aimed for little kids in the first place. Fortnite was only aimed for teens, yet little kids were exposed to that shit
Yeah. The game would be so much more immersive if there was a chance your fellow soldiers might try frag you.
Sepulchre13 nah, I’m talking about Saving Private Ryan, there’s this one scene where the US soldiers fire on unarmed Wehrmacht Soldiers after the battle of D-Day. And in Call Of Duty World At War Soviets show no mercy to the Germans who begged for their life and were killed off by your teammates. It would’ve made you feel bad for the enemy instead of just thinking this War was quite easy for both sides. That’s what I mean by this. It only makes you think about your teammates instead of thinking about the enemies in sympathy.
Not many games do that at all, not just battlefield. It adds nothing to the overall experience of the player and can pull people off playing it because it isn't a sellable point. These are games, not playable documentaries after all.
This is a glorious and beautiful mission . And shine the light of honor to many who were sadly forgotten by the ways the world was in the 40s. Now there services to there counties, families, and the free world, will be honored with the highest respect.
For once than a WWII game's story mode includes the French, I was hoping for something else. You know, the "unseen stories" that Dice kept talking about ? Cause as a french I can tell that the tirailleurs and the colonial troops are the ONLY thing we learn at school, we're literally having our brain stuffed with their stories and how they're out most decorated troops in the 40s. Would have been a real change to have the french troops from France, for once.
honestly. would have loved to play as the french being flanked around the maginot line, would have been so damn scenaric and epic
@XZDrake How about you actually open a history book? French fought longer than the British who ran away in 2 weeks to Dunkirk, at the time Americans didn't even fight they were too busy giving money to Hitler, because American banks is what permitted Hitler to build his army until 1942. F***ing shameful corrupted country. And you speak about "betrayal of the west and democracy" braindead zombie?... Not enough embarrassing? Ok then UK and US got their asses handled in 10 days during market garden, what a shame for people being so prompt to mock the French. Will I speak about the Fall of Singapore? Will I speak about the surrender of the Phillippines to 4 times inferior numbers? Too shameful for your country. I won't be speaking either about the whole western Gold to Dollar scam used to financiate the Vietnam war, that you still lost pathetically, that ended with american GIs losing to third world peasants. Embarassing fck up you said... How about you check the Battle of Bir Hakeim, where white French stopped Rommels Afrika korps, or the liberation of Paris by Resistance and FFL, before insulting 400 000 french violent death from behind you keyboard, coward? Arrogant ignorant POS
@@Whenseen There was not just the maginot line. If you historical knowledge was not based on hollywood and EA, you would know that the biggest tank battle happened in 1940, battle of Hannut. Amazing story. I, from the caribbean, did not know that these Frenchmen used Senegal soldiers in WW2. Amazing story and let no one erase history.
It was not just Senegalese soldiers but many West Africans also.
By the way for those who don't know, after the black troops had been sent back to Senegal without there pensions and promised pay, they revolted and France responded by bombarding their largest camp which was in Thiaroye Senegal. Just search up Thiaroye 44 to get the story.

Yea lets all focuse on fact that african soldiers were not treated nice on army lol. Thats the main tragedy of WW2. Lets forget Holocaust, Nanking, Soviet mass rape in Berlin... when were at at it mass rapes caused by French colonial soldier from Morrocco etc. Just focus on this nonsense. Czech or Polish soldiers were also treated like trash in British army and nobody cares about that because they are white so it is okish discrimination.

@TheCrazyKid1381 You're completely mad, colonial troops were always held in high esteem in France. And a lot of Africans continue to enlist in the French Foreign Legion nowadays; it's because their comrades, the French army, and the people of France respect those who become "French by spilled blood", their colors, origins or religions don't matter, as long as they respect the French Republic ( and I can tell you that black "légionnaires" are the most patriotic and nationalist French that exist ).
As for the role of Africans in the French army in the two world wars, while it was honorable, especially coming from people who had never seen metropolitan France, they didn't play a role that bigger ( even if they have my upmost respect ).
In WW1, death rates in colonial regiments were inferior compared to those of the regular infantry regiments. The colonials didn't fight in the winter, and they only represent 3% of the total number of French Killed In Action.
In WW2, they played a bigger role (it's one of the reasons France granted sub-saharan countries independence peacefully in the 1960's), but most of the fighting was made by regular French infantry regiment ( 100,000 French of the regular army killed in 1940 only ) and resistance movements. Even if the actions of colonial troops proved decisive in some crucial allied battles ( Monte Cassino and the moroccan "goumiers" ).
Mali asked for the help of France in 2013 because jihadists allied with touaregs were taking over the country. If the French wanted to "erase" these people and their history, they wouldn't have called.
The French paratrooper rapidly crushed the Islamist threat, they were acclaimed by the Malian people when they liberated the northern cities of the country, some Malians even raised French flags.
Colonial troops. Men who fought for freedom, just not their own. Massive respect to them

I sure hope players don't actually believe this to be accurate. The French were not that racist especially since they were desperate to reclaim their country. In fact, they were even more welcoming towards black units than the Americans, such as the famous Harlem Hellfighters during WWI. Everyone shared the same tasks and no one really bothered to segregate units as it was a waste of time and resources. Germany's execution methods were exaggerated. Yes, they did tend to execute prisoners, but that was only when it was impossible to hold them prisoner or if they happened to be done by fanatical Nazis. When they did execute prisoners, it was not based on racial issues like they portrayed in the campaign. The colonial forces did not get to participate in major parades in history books because they happened to be stationed in different areas and therefore, were too far out of reach to join in on time.

Well battlefield 1 had black germans on the western front, experimental weapons that never came to be used in wide numbers, british playermodels with german grenades, the ability to choose to play in a saint chamond as a german, using a russian bomber as the ottoman empire, using weapons that were available in 1918 to be used in before everything, using tanks that were available in the last years of the war before then, OOohh but no one says anything about that hmm???

Even people who studies WW1's history actually enjoyed the game for depicting alot of shits right in terms of how the weapon works, vehicles, uniforms and more. BF 1 although contains some few issues, it was still fun to play while still immersive. BF 5 on the other hand promised historical accuracy (used this opportunity thanks to the fuck up that is COD WW2) and nearly got majority of it wrong, it feels like a BF 1 DLC more than a ne game (they actually reused some assets on it).
