For those wondering: "Why didn't you pump up the crowd", pumping up the crowd doesn't give you a speed, distance or height boost like it does in later games and in the DS version
But pressing A to stick the landing in the vault DOES give you a point boost and is required to get the perfect 10. There's also a shout you can do in the hammer throw to give you a slight distance boost just after release, but I forget how to do it.

I'm guessing because he did the inputs faster when prompted. You have to do about 20 of those before hitting the home stretch of just doing the motions. One thing that might help is that the buttons have different shapes on the pop up. If the circle is on the right, it's Z+A. If the circle is on the left, it's A+B. If there is no circle, it's Z+B. Good luck breaking your record!
