Great presentation and logical thought processes (as usual from you) Note: Audient ID44 MkII is only $699 at our fav Sweetwater. It has FOUR independent artist cue mixes. 😮 And talk about Console preamps! 🎉 And it has dedicated balanced Insert points for using outboard gear on the preamps OR patching in your own BAE/Neve/WarmAudio channel strips 😃
Hey Colt, great video as always. I don't know man, I actually feel the Audient ID44mkii is the better buy here - just as powerful, great preamps, more adat I/O (enough outputs to run a minimum atmos rig). Honestly the only thing missing is the metering section on the MBOX and midi I/O. But its nearly half the price. Worth a thought
Dear Colt. Long time suscriber. I have AudioMedia III, Original Cyan M-Box, Digi 001 and 002. Aside an MIX ++ setup. DIgidesign was bad giving support for older interfaces once they develop another batch of newer interfaces. 2 years ago I tried RME and I cant go back. Now I have 3 RME interfaces for Protools. If Avid would be like RME and still support 20 years old interfaces I would go back with them. I really hope your interface to be still supported in 5 years. I guess you will end getting an Appollo from Upstair Studio A once you do the Atmos setup. I encorage you to embrace Dante to have connected Studio A and B for Tracking a band on both simultaneously. Thanks for your videos. Always inspiring.
Yepp, I agree. Never Avid again, I had a Digi002 with lots of RTA plugins, all useless. If Avid as a manufacturer screws up the clients for more money and create a lot of electronic waist for the environment then you totally suck as a company period. When a company like Neyerink needs to provide drivers to get the expensive Pro Control and C24 surfaces working and Avid as a producer doesn’t want to do it then I never spend a dime again even if they make the best of the best, which they don’t. My setup is RME with Reaper, companies that care about their end users and RME has up to date drivers for interfaces over 15 years old. 👊🏼
@@Studio22mix i am currently looking at the mbox studio because my RME ufx ii is super unreliable, the mic input to windows just stopped working and it sounds distorted at high sampling rates.
This is one of those interfaces that can easily get overlooked, or at least I may have overlooked. I've been caught up with the UAD stuff so much but this one is a great buy! If you compare the Mbox Studio to the Apollo Twin(both are fairly in the same price point) it shows that off hand out the box you get a bit more with this one. The Apollos just offer the unison technology to record thru virtual preamps. However, it's still more things to pay for when buying those preamps and plugins to work with the unison pres. Great video as always!
my RME was 2500 like 25 years ago .. 100 a year is cheap right lol .. re capped it myself last year.. total mix is great this has a mixer like it .. that mixer is the best thing to have
Hey Colt! great video again ! I really like how you review things and I bought this interface because of my old apogee element 24. The roundtrip of the avid mbox is higher but not a big deal at all I think. I ordered this interface at thomann from Germany. They give every person who ordered this interface a perpetual PT Studio with one year support. So I used every other DAW out there and everybody told me to not switch to pro tools but for me it feels right and I used the free version called intro I think and something happens inside myself when I start these DAW every time. I feel like coming home haha it's a lot of stuff to learn but at the end it's a phenomenal DAW and has a great community so far ! Thanks for your videos ! greetings Cryzor
I love the look of it, especially all of the I/O. I’m happy with my UAD interfaces but this looks great value for money. I remember the old Mbox from decades ago.
I have 2 independent headphone mixes on MiniFuse 4... 🤭 For what I do, there are enough inputs. Of course we talk about different levels of sound interfaces. Just saying that there are also cheaper interfaces that do independent headphones mixes, if that is all that matter to one. 😏
I think that box is probably the next best option! Personally, I like the layout and function of this one a bit better, but that is definitely a capable box!
4 mic pres are a good plus, but if I'm honest, once I get that close to $1.000 I'll just do RME. I've got a Babyface Pro FS as a portable bus powered unit (which I assume this isn't), and a Fireface UCX2, which has 6 analog outs and 8 analog ins, connected to a MOTU 8pre-es via adat AND sending AES digital to my main monitors (plus Auratones). The only thing that makes this avid box attractive is Pro Tools (which I don't care for).
Hey Colt, I have looked at the new Motu 828which even has a built in mixer along with a good cue mix app, please when you get a chance tell me what you think
I feel kind of dumb to have to ask this but how is this a 21 input interface if it only has 2 mic inputs on the front and 2 on the back? I can't record a drum kit with more than 4 mics right? WTF am I missing?
ID44 is significantly better than this box. Also, I don't think many gearheads will like the whole toyish/carnival look of this piece. I'm just saying....
@@burrellbrothersentertainme2281Exactly! I don't know who designs some of these pieces, but why would anyone want an expensive piece of hardware to look like a toy from the Carnival? you really came in here and said "imma be a hater" lol there's stuff this does that audient does not and it's clear if you really knew both pieces of gear.
@@thebeatmajors_yt Maybe you're referring to the extra LED Meters, or that the Avid has a maximum sample rate of 192khz. I will admit that the additional analog outs are nice, but aesthetics of the gear is important to a lot of people, especially serious studio heads. I'm just saying, a piece that looks like a toy may not appeal to serious gear owners in many pro studio settings. I think the ID44 Sync I/O feature may appeal the a great number of users, which I believe the Avid does not have. The Audient also has a built in High Pass Filter, only achievable by Avid via software. The look of the gear matters to me, as well as a large population of other mature studio owners. I never said I hate the units' functionality... I said it looks like a toy... and it does. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if this becomes a staple in professional studio settings. Arturia Audiofuse Studio. $899. It has all the same connectivity plus more, I would venture a guess to better preamps, one-for-one buttons, multiple HP mixes, built in reamp, and is a usb hub. Fairly extensive mix software but easy to understand and has a button on the interface to open said software.
It’s definitely Audiofuse vs MBOX for me. Both are loaded for the price. The usb hub is such a nice addition. But, one thing I read that might be a deal breaker is monitor outs are not balanced on the audiofuse. Without balanced trs going into my monitors I get noticeable noise (likely from my PC or my UPS). Also, if I purchase MBOX within the next few days, Avid will include a $600 perpetual license for Pro Tools Studio. Want.
I am not a fan of table top interfaces but i love the feat it has. Never heard of an interface that have a reamp box in it. Are there any interface alternatives in rack size that has that?
The downside of it for me was that you’re not allowed to route directly from pro tools to the adat/digital outputs, you need to route them to the mbox control software and then to the adat BUT there’s only 8 outs so… that’s it, you can’t have those outputs and different analog outputs and so on… finally went to the Neumann mt48 and that’s a beast (goes beyond the $1000 tough)
My Mackie Big Knob Series, 3x2 Studio Monitor Controller does all these but it started acting up after couple years of use. So I'm looking for an interface and monitor upgrade.
Although I have the TL Audio Classic preamps and a Focusrite ISA One preamp I really like the preamps in the old AVID M Box Pro. It's much more superior to the other interfaces in the same category. I hope AVID would make a stripped down version of the M Box Studio that's more affordable than the original one.
I think "best" really comes down to what you need. The MBox is crazy, but I'n my case I only have one pair of monitors, rarely record more than one input at a time and NEED a clean, powerful headphone amp with low impedance to power my planars. After a ton of research, the Topping E2X2 was the only interface that fit the bill for me. The mic pres are extremely clean and the headphone amp is unmatched in any interface I've seen. It has multiple virtual outs with loopback, and it costs the same as other 2in2out interfaces like the Scarlett 2i2 or the Volt while absolutely blowing them out of the water in pretty much every category.
Hey Colt, how does it perform on Mac OS? And the round trip latency? Could you check the RTL in 44.100khz / 24bit/ 128 and 256 buffer size to show us the milliseconds?

I couldnt connect to download the firmware my Win 10 desktop. I had to use my Win laptop 11 to flash the firmware but once that was done it worked fine with Win 10. The FX loops are a game changer as you can use these for guitars and synths and they work a treat.
They always mention those high I/0 that are via ADAT 😂 Focusrite 18i8 3rd Gen does similar for less.. Including The 2 Headphones Out + The 4X Mic/Instrument in
