Blade was never even marketed as a superhero movie as most didn’t even know it was a comic. It was seen as a cool Wesley Snipes action vampire movie. It did 131 mil worldwide which was 29th for the year (1998). Luckily the budget was only 45 mil.
Regardless of whether or not it was marketed as a superhero movie the people making it knew that it was and it's success helped pave the way for superhero movies. 131 million is actually pretty good for the time movies weren't making a billion dollars back then. It got 2 sequels for a reason.
I think the reason Mark Waid and Dan Mora aren’t writing Shazam anymore is because they’re working on something else that’s been called a quote “big project” for DC, which was corroborated by Scott Snyder on Twitter. The rumor is that they could either be doing the main Justice League book or they’re working on something for this rumored Ultimate DC Universe with rumors claiming that Scott Snyder will be leading/shepherding the Ultimate DC Universe.
DC also did a Bloodlines 6 issue miniseries in 2016 when they were switching from New 52 into the Rebirth era. I really liked it but no one read it or remembers it.
The only two characters my roommate in college liked when I was able to get him into comics was Thomas Wayne, Batman and Shazam. To this day, almost 6 years later, still don't understand
Can you guys do a video about the new Ultimate Universe after all the first issued come out? Maybe bring in Rob on that one? There are also a lot of rumors that Scott Snyder is doing the Ultimate DC books and Jason Aaron, AL Ewing and possibly now Mark Waid. Can you do a video about that also?
Mark Waids Kingdom come universe that we see in worlds finest I thought is set before the events of Kingdom Come. That's how it's in the same universe (KC's superman, batman are older but not that old). Also we see a flashforward of KC in worlds finest with the graves but that hasn't happened yet is what I thought. Maybe that answers the question Sal and Benny?
They way they feel about Shazam! is the way I felt about Cyborg when they started the New 52. The feeling of them "shoving him down our throats." Sal might like the series called "Trials of Shazam" from the early 00's I think. It's about Freddy Freeman and they tried something a little new. I do disagree that he's just Superman. There are way too many differences.
I miss Ron Marz Witchblade so bad. That book was amazing. That whole period in Top Cow, with Artifacts and Phil Hester’s Darkness. Peak comics. The only time a company has been firing on all cylinders like that is the early 2012 Valiant relaunch stuff.
Hasbro's going on for the transformers GI Joe crossover since the movie is the next, I hope there is room for that power rangers crossover I dreamed of since I was a child too
I get bros excited but let Sal speak for a second before raising your voice. I happy he’s excited but fucking hell breathe and let the man speak. Still enjoyable to watch but fuck.
I feel like Shazam needs someone like Tom King or Chip Zdarsky to hit a 6 issue mini to reinvent the character. Maybe kill his whole family or something. Wow that reads way darker than I meant it 😅
So here's the thing they are always reinventing him. There was the trials of Shazam where Billy is the wizard. The time they gave him new powers Sal and Benny mentioned. Geoff Johns and the movie revamping the family, the current run changing his name again. Thats not even getting into Black Adam becoming an anti hero or Mary Marvel turning evil. While it might be the team I think because the book gave Shazam a status quo helped the book's sales. I am not against reinventing the character but, it has to be a reinvention that sticks. Not another attempt at modernizing him that only lasts as long as the trend does.

Ordway's Power of Shazam comic in the 90s was fantastic and still holds up.

Benny, you guys are best, I have tried other channels they just can’t keep me informed or entertain like you guys. Keep up the great job 👍
Can't believe Sal forgot they were called the Psyba-Rats!
The "Don vs Dawn" convo broke Sal for a solid 10 seconds 😅
Gieger is an underrated story I just got into. Hopefully one day it can be covered on back issues or comicstorian
Energon Universe is easily the best connected universe right now. Every title is fire

At his best Shazam is called Miracle Man 😂
🤣

Wait there was a blade show??
Waid's shazam was definetly much better than Geoff John's run.

From the thumbnail i thought i read jason todd got turned into a ninja turtles and am all into that.
Omg I love Blade. You guys should do a bladewatch like you guys did batwatch. That would be so dope❤❤❤

@Comicstorian please do a Superwatch, reviewing Superman 1&2, Superman Returns and Man of Steel

I think Hawk & Dove haven't gotten any books on purpose because they'll be part of that DC event.
Here's hoping it is a return of Bloodlines event #bringbacktheNewBloods
Shazam has more sales numbers than Superman
What about that Gargoyles comic Kickstarter?
If I recall correctly their is also an anime by the name of witchblade
Transformers and GI Joe crossing over isnt limited. Theyre getting a movie brother😂
Hey now Benny I’m that ONE fan that will stick up for Mary Marvel. She’s a more interesting character imo
wait benny, you dont like shazam? D: how can you not like the captain? one of the best books right now D: imo your hottest take yet :O
Hasbro's going on for the transformers GI Joe crossover since the movie is the next, I hope there is room for that power rangers crossover I dreamed of since I was a child too
I just can’t get into Shazam, there is nothing holding my interest there for long enough.
If is is bloodlines 2 we know what that means👀
I love it!😊
Benny. They transformers and gijoe teamed up in the original idw tf contnuity
Aliens who suck you say 🧐
I really dont get the shazam disrespect, I just dont :(

Shazam outsold Superman they can’t get rid of him cause sales
@@yarc9 I’d imagine it was because of the team doing it like Sal said, right? That’s the only thing that makes sense to me
