  • Tackle Management is critical! Keeping your gear safe and easily accessible is one of the most time consuming jobs an angler has both on and off the water. Through the years we've narrowed down the gear we rely on to properly protect our gear both at home and on the water. Whether you're walking the shore, hopping on a plane, or getting in the boat, these are items we trust.
    Tackle storage at home, on the boat, traveling between vehicles, and while traveling on major trips, all requires different equipment. Its easy to spend a fortune on tackle management solutions so we're here to help narrow it down for you. Each of these items came out of our personal gear and is an item that has tangibly helped us stay more organized.
    If any of these items stand out to you, you can find them linked below. We've listed them in the order they appeared in the video to help you find the right items quickly. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

    Losing my mind that we’ve gotten like 10 TB videos in a row and my wallet is still *sorta* full 😅 those SPRO boxes are sweet! I actually keep one at work (I’m an auto tech) for smaller nuts and bolts, it’s worked great for that! I would love to see a couple videos on how you travel with your gear. Storage, rod storage, rod brands, what you take and how much.
    When I say travel; I’m not talking a day trip or to your local lake to bank fish. I’m talking air travel, RV/camper, driving in a SUV for a week going to several lakes or regions in the US.
    Also what’s involved to take items on an air plane, insurance, luggage checking and over sized luggage, etc.
    Thanks

    You got it Tim, I like thinner boxes too, especially for crankbaits! I'll take the Plano 3701 and 3601 boxes ALL DAY! Thinner boxes mean more boxes in the same bag space AND MORE IMPORTANTLY it means MORE SNUG storage so crankbaits don't scratch against each other as much. To me this is especially essential for lipless cranks and jerkbaits.

    Bank angler here. I use 2 of the Plano 3700 boxes; one for reaction (Chatterbaits, crankbaits, jerkbaits, etc) and one for terminal tackle, worms, ned rig baits, creature baits, jigs, etc. And I put those, along with a bag of other soft plastics (Z Man) in my Sog Ninja Daypack and I'm good to go. It has room for all that, plus water bottle, scale, pliers and Molle webbing so that I can clip on scissors and a towel.

    I fish from an Old Town AP. The best way to store spinnerbaits and smaller glide baits is the Plano Edge fold up bag. You can fit so many baits in one of those and it’s way easier to store than a big bulky spinnerbaits box.

    I love the fly box for hair jigs. I need to shop around for a little bigger though. Some of the hair jigs I tie for Northern Pike are 6”-8” long. The normal jigs are about the size of your hair jigs but 3/8-1/2 oz. I already a dedicated pike storage bag filled with Plano boxes, only fish for them a couple times a year.

    I like some of those boxes you can adjust. I find when I go fishing now, I have to determine what season, where I'm going, the weather, and then just put several baits together in an extra box or two. Carrying everything I own is too much. Lol! Anyway, I went yesterday from the bank and took a few jerk baits, some soft plastics and accessories, and a few jigs. I ended up catching a limit of bass mostly on the jerkbait and Texas rigging a blue and black creature bait. Needless to say, I am stoked. The first spot I went to was dead, so I went to my second spot and had an awesome trip. I have a canoe with a trolling motor that I get out with some, but mostly fish from the bank since much is not accessable.

    I think those smaller, clamshell boxes like that SPRO are understated. They don't just hold 'a bit' of terminal, they actually hold quite alot in each individual slot. Alot of space is wasted vertically on traditional boxes. I use a Lost Creek clamshell box that has up to 20 configurable slots, and it's perfect for hooks, weights, snaps, and jig heads up to 3/0 hooks. It's really downsized and saves space compared to the 3500 box I was using! I can cram eight 1/8 and six 3/8 Tungsten bullet weights in a single slot.

    After these shopping guides are done, you should do a tackle storage video for the majority of us... how do you organize a (non-sickness) tackle supply to keep on your boat... my tackle bag holds 4 regular 3700 size boxes or 2 regular and 3 thin 3700 boxes. I get the concept of having 20 boxes at home and making day boxes all the time, but for most of us, that doesn't make sense.

    Just bought two Plano Edge 3700 Thin (need to keep things compact for my kayak fishing) to try out and to replace the various cheaper boxes of similar size that I need to buy a new of every so often because the lids keep friggin deforming themselves without exception. One I hadn't used even a month, and when closed (two snaps on the long side) the lid at one of the short side was already curved upwards with almost half an inch.

    One of the things I learned from my photography hobby is that there is a constant stream of new overpriced storage solutions. A few years down the road they are resold for pennies on the dollar. I stick to Plano boxes for immediate use, the rest is stored on cardboard sheets stacked in boxes. And of course the most important storage rule - control the GAS.

      @tacticalbassin  Рік тому

      There's actually a reason we don't. We've noticed in our drives around the country that a lot of fish behavior is dictated by season, length of day, and moon phase, more than by water temp. Sure there are some water temp generalizations but if we include it a lot of guys will miss amazing patterns waiting for it to warm up 2 more degrees. You're far better to work off of season patterns and ignore water temp in our opinion.
