To people with aphantasia; there is a visualization exercise called “image streaming”. Some people with aphantasia have said that this exercise progressively made it easier for them to mentally visualize things. Considering how little known aphantasia is I would be concerned about something like “image streaming” also being largely unknown. @@emischlief8691 I think a lot of people are thinking they have it because they are misunderstanding what it is (Not everyone obviously). I've seen lots of comments online where people seem to think they should be able to literally SEE things in front of their eyes like a hallucination, and if they can't do that they assume they have aphantasia. It's especially difficult when people with aphantasia try to describe it to other people because if you genuinely have it you can't explain to other people what they are supposed to be doing when they 'visualise' something. I can visualise images in my head, in a lot of detail mind you, but I find it hard to explain. It's like the visual version of an internal monologue (which apparently lots of people also don't have), you don't literally hear words you just think them.

The fun thing about linguistic accommodation, is some people naturally/unconsciously morph their accents to match whoever they’re talking to. I do this to basically everyone except (US) southerners. I’m not sure why my brain distinguishes that accent alone as different enough that I won’t adopt it, especially considering I’ve accidentally picked up slight British, Australian and Irish accents, and I pick up regional accents in Spanish too
As a U.S. southerner, I'm offended. Jk, but I do the same. Never thought of it as accommodation, but like, my dad is from New York and my mom grew up in the greater Huntsville area, so I'm only really southern when I'm around people who are really southern, you know? And on top of that, there are a lot of people in my area that come from Chicago, and I'll flow into their accent when I talk to them. I didn't know other people did that.
Same, i remember on tests I would picture how I spatially arranged my notes to help differentiate similar definitions. I'm more confused how anyone processes auditory information without subtitles
I never knew the inability to picture things in your head was a thing other people had. I've struggled my whole life with it. It's nice to have something to tell others about when I need to explain it.
Neat! When Ross was talking about Aphantasia and did the ball visualization thing, I just imagined three, roughly sketched circles. No color, no depth, just like circles on a page. I guess that's interesting. I remember watching that Sherlock show with Bengerton Cummyback, and he'd do his silly Mind Palace thing. All I could think of was how that's so exactly opposite of what's helpful. When I have to think about things in an intense way, I avoid visualizing at all costs. Just let thoughts run wild, not trying to interpret them. Like a blob of colors shifting around and mixing. Then I just get a "PING" and know that I know the answer, even if I don't know what the answer is. Then, in expressing what I know I know, the thoughts finally take shape. The Mind Palace always seemed like an extra, complex step that would make thinking so much harder and slower.
Yeah I would have to focus so so hard to get consistent shapes and details, that the mind palace thing wouldn't work for me because I'd be bursting a blood vessel just to get a good image of the front door
Ross wasn't kidding about people in his chat on that gartic phone stream - lots of people either confused on what he meant or having _"Wait I thought everyone was just pretending"_ reactions
That honestly blows my mind as to how someone can tell you "picture this" and you can't do it that you wouldn't know that means you can't do it when most people can. How do those people think that's normal when other people are literally telling them they can do things they can't? I don't mean that to sound rude by any means, I just don't understand.
23:40 "Can I ask you a question? When you read a character description, you can see the character clearly in your head, right?" **My head whips up cuz I've asked a very, very similar question a dozen times** Oh my god... is he about to ask about aphantasia? This is fascinating! I also have aphantasia, and I would describe my visualization as mostly blind. When Ross said "Picture three balls", it's just information I have, maybe the briefest flash of a muddy black-and-white picture-- there was no color, even when he asked for it. Directions are feelings, not pictures; movement in 3D space. I love color, I love sketching/drawing. I love love love zentangle. I have a great eye for very subtle differences in shades, and I can look at a picture of a 3D object and nearly unfailingly choose the correct rotated orientation like on those IQ tests (though that's more pattern recognition). But just like Ross, it's a matter of "sketching it out and finding the line". Where we differentiate is I LOVE books. I love being in a different world and feeling different things. The textile things are what gets me the most: the roughness of cobble streets or the sleekness of a river-stone; the tight squeeze of an underground tunnel or the open-air feel of a field. Anyway, it's neat to see someone more "popular" have aphantasia, especially an artist.

the line between grump cade and guest grumps is becoming even more abstract
9:42 - HAHAHAHAHA! Wow, Ross still dying at Arin's misfortunes
11:59 - Hahahaha, that's awesome & funny
30:36 - Hahahaha
35:46 - Hahaaha, holy crap
I didn't know other people did that.
as someone who learns almost entirely visually, i literally cant comprehend being unable to visualize something. head empty.
Its such an interesting discussion from either end.
Same, i remember on tests I would picture how I spatially arranged my notes to help differentiate similar definitions. I'm more confused how anyone processes auditory information without subtitles
Episode spoiler
I like how even with Ross here the stage still isn't beaten
0:30 Ross's face at his limit with arin like... Ross: God when will this end..?
28:05 Arin's probably thinking about LilKirbs!!! And then he throws something against the wall for completing the level xD
I love Ross slowing getting his accent back as he's talking about Australian Slang
Despite conventional wisdom, there was apparently no room for Jollo in Ross' heartfelt hatred of King's Quest VI.
I never knew the inability to picture things in your head was a thing other people had. I've struggled my whole life with it. It's nice to have something to tell others about when I need to explain it.
I love it every time they used that intro. Jaden's reaction is everything. Arin going all over the top is the best!
10:42 IM SO GLAD THEY TALKED ABOUT THAT. i loved that playthrough
28:05 he has to be talking about Lil Kirbs. If he’s not I’m gonna shout him out cause he needs more recognition.
@@justanaveragejoe4265 i just assumed it was a metaphor lol
I love the way Ross gets excited and goes back to Australian twenty minutes in.
RIP Lemony Fresh," I found out about this yesterday."
Me: "yay they're gonna finish it"
Also me: "no not this level again the memory gone but the pain still fresh"
And I say unto you:
"No, I'm not Mario Maker Jesus, either."
Wow it’s crazy that Ross overthrew the Burger King and installed a burger republic
I'm still waiting for the Ross Toss to be a real dance one day
Happy to see ghoul grumps continued beyond Halloween this year!
Ross: "My mind is completely empty"
God, same though.
23:40
"Can I ask you a question? When you read a character description, you can see the character clearly in your head, right?"
**My head whips up cuz I've asked a very, very similar question a dozen times** Oh my god... is he about to ask about aphantasia?
