A heroic moment in a rather grim series. They really outdid themselves with this Ultraman show. The NEXT, Nexus and Noa. An evolving ultraman, through various hosts.
Indeed. A rather legendary series even though it was cut short in my opinion. Remains my number 1 favorite right now. Nothing else can even top it. They really show the meaning of "Never give up" in this dark and grimm ultra series. Getting stronger and stronger while overcoming absolute despair. The "Bonds" between all of Nexus' host are amazing. Too bad Ren's Nagi's and Komon's part were halted due to low ratings.

*The grim and mystery-filled story* For a series aimed primarily at children, it was no surprise that this series came as a _surprise_ (pun intended). The mystery aspect of who the real enemy was, the characters pasts, motivations and development, the actual dread of the monsters and the victims of their wrath and the relationship the main character (Komon) has with the Ultra Host (the Deunamists), are all very enticing and actually have great significance. *Nexus' Hosts actually have a lot of risks when fighting as the Ultra* The series states that "The Hosts themselves physically become Nexus". Meaning that Nexus/Noa simply exists as a power that only shows to his Host how to wield his powers, but how they use is entirely their own (Resulting in the Junis forms). Also that when the host receives damage, it's not translated as exhaustion but an actual wound that if not properly healed will actually hinder the host's ability to fight as Nexus, prompting them to strategize how they fight and adapt as they go along. *The enemies are strong and possess story significance* Unlike the standard "Monster of the week style" this franchise is known for, many of Nexus' Beasts and enemies are recurring. This shows that they are not some pushovers and are actually very strong, or rather the enemy makes much more use of them: Summoning two when the Ultra is severely weakened, Summoning them within spaces that actually empowers, enhancing their abilities to overpower the Ultra. And as we see with Beasts like The One, Nosferu, Galberos and the Dark Giants, they all possess connections to the series' plot and characters, all leading to the reveal of the main antagonist. *The Humans are actually the driving the series forward* Since the Ultra is not a member of the actual defense team and acts more so as a recurring character in a way, the Humans actually show their worth in combat. I'm not saying this in that the previous defense teams did not show their own worth, but it's more significant in Nexus' universe because they study their enemies and develop weapons and methods that actually aid them in the fight. I call the most prominent of this growth in their ability to enter Nexus' dimension, something that they cultivated from chance and later became something that is second nature to them. *And most importantly, "The Message"* If memory serves, Nexus came right after Cosmos (who was an Ultra defined by his kindness), but this silver giant literally did a 180 and dropped the whole wishy-washy aspect of that, showing that there is a very hard struggle for those who were "chosen" to bond with an Ultra. Nexus/Noa may have been the one who called them, but he left them with choice to fight or not. He did not force them and the hosts weren't particularly forced to heed the giant's call, he gave them the choice to fight alongside him and respected their wish should it be a refusal. But when they actually choose to fight, their the sacrifices they make, the battles they face and the pain they feel is entirely their choice. And to add insult to injury, it's not like they can ask for help. The hosts always, almost always are the first to notice if there's a Space Beast running amok in the world, and if TLT or the Night Raiders don't notice it for themselves, Nexus and by extension the host who turns into him at the time is forced to deal with it alone. While his direct predecessor Cosmos showed that "Kindness is stronger than Might", Nexus showed that "To Fight is to not Give Up" and that "Fighting is a choice, but knowing when to stop and Entrust the fight to the next is another choice all the same". Each generation leaves behind their quirks, beliefs and history behind for the next generation, whether it'll be a repeat or not is unknown but damn well, they'll try.
When I was a kid in my 14s I HATED Ultraman Nexus because of it's dark and gritty tone and way too much talking. But now I am 18 turning 19 at the end of March, Nexus is the first and foremost example of how the Ultras and the defense teams were nothing more than gimmicks to the story, this is an aspect we now can hardly find in the current "New Generation Heroes" series. And Nexus is the only series in the Ultra franchise that made me think it could've happened in real life, some pivotal and critical event happened in the world but somehow our minds were engineered to omit the event's occurrence in the first place because if the information becomes public, it will cause chaos. And as a college student, the defense teams are actually relatable to me. When they're presented by a problem, they seek solution whether by pure chance or a result of a long day's work, and not only use it to fix the problem at hand but use it as a guiding principle should the same problem ever occurred once again.

Honestly, I miss even Ultraman Cosmos' Team EYES and Ultraman Mebius' Team GUYS, because not only did the credibility of their team was put into question when something goes awry, their mission and goals align with their Ultra. The main example other than Nexus' TLT and Night Raiders was XIG in Ultraman Gaia: A multinational defense team stationed across the world that actually had a strong presence in the series, and the minds that pioneered them, the "Alchemy Stars" was the first ever true indication of a multi cultural series. The so-called "New Generation" are way too hung up on riding their predecessors coattails that they don't really seem to make the Ultra seem that much stronger. Sure, the Ultra Fusion gimmick is cool, I'll admit that, but it ruins the theme of an Ultraman. They're only "borrowing" powers, not "cultivating" the power they already have.
It's just so sad they weren't able to finish Nexus with its original script. Nagi's original storyline had so much potential and may very well bring this show to an even higher level. It might actually be good enough to be considered as the "EVA" of tokusatsu world.

Hearing this song making me remembering how much is Jun,Ren,and Komon efforts to protect everyone from space-beast,even though it cost their own life....i really wish they could extend the series untill noa finally met the final villain(dark lucifer),we would met so many new deunamist and new space beast,it would be exciting.....
