I'm not too concerned about getting VR versions of existing first-party AAA franchises, the PSVR got some great first-party games that weren't sequels (technically) e.g. Astrobot, Blood and Truth. And then some fantastic second-party stuff not related to major IP, e.g. Farpoint, Firewall, Statik. Rush of Blood is a classic, but is more of a weird spin-off game and you could hardly call Until Dawn a AAA franchise. I think Sony are risking the headset dying before they announce a First party game. They own insomniac who have loads of VR experience. why not actually finish stormland like they were going to before Sony bought them.Blood and truth, Wipeout and a horizon zero dawn VR mode would be amazing too. I think they need to announce something before the headset sales fall to nothing.
Totally agree that their lack of public support for PSVR 2 is harming its sales. They don't even speak publicly about the stuff they ARE doing for it, like funding both RE game's VR modes, and funding third party exclusives like Synapse and Switchback. For anyone who doesn't closely follow VR, it looks like Sony dropped all support for PSVR 2 right after launch. PSVR 2 needs a price cut and a roadmap of future support. Sony needs to let people know they're still backing it, or else they shouldn't expect anyone to buy one.
@@GreyMatterShades I worked for Sony indirectly for many years (service agent for HiFi & TV) and they don't do things how you would expect. Very secretive company.
@@linzkirk They weren't always this secretive in their games division though. It really started in the latter half of the PS4 generation. They used to reveal games early (sometimes too early) and try to get people hyped for them. I think the weak competition from Xbox is allowing them to get complacent. At this rate, the launch of the PS6 is going to be worse than the launch of the PS3. And their secrecy is working fine for PS5, but it's killing PSVR 2. People need to know Sony is backing it, or they won't buy it.
There's definitely some wiggle room in terms of what Sony considers major triple-A IP. Not sure that Astrobot would fall into that category, same goes for Twisted Metal or Wipeout for that matter. Ultimately this news has me more concerned about Sony's general release cadence than anything else. These massive triple-A games are taking too long to develop. There's a very real possibility that some of Sony's biggest studios will only be able to release ONE game in the entire PS5 lifespan. That's crazy. As for PSVR 2, I was pessimistic about first-party output already and this hasn't really shifted me either way. Hopefully there are some big third-party games coming this year (come on, Ace Combat 8!), and if Sony actually releases something internally developed for PSVR 2, that'd be a very pleasant surprise. But PSVR 2 desperately needs a roadmap and clear articulation of support from Sony. Even if they just spoke publicly about their funding of the RE ports and games like Synapse and Switchback, it would let people know they're still supporting the headset in a way. A price cut would help a lot as well.
I understand it was due to “technical differences” but I’m sure they could have made it work if they wanted to. Pretty dumb not having backcompat to PSVR1.
AAA games are great and all but for me its the other games that really make psvr2 good and there are plenty of VR games on steam that could get ported and It think thats where playstation need to invest
Madison was supposed to come out last year, so it's been more than a month's delay. They've been quietly delaying movies and games and then also doing stealth drops which is annoying and I hope all these habits aren't a thing for the future for any platform.
I disagree about having them show future games on the Promo videos. If they did that, then there would be people that would buy the PSVR2 and then go to look for one of the games that was shown on the promo video to only find out that it is not availible to play yet. that would leave them dissapointed and with a bit of regret in them. not a good way to promote a product and keep players happy. Promos should only show currently available games that can be played.
I disagree. While I think they'd need to make it very clear every time they showed a game that isn't out yet (it could say "Coming fall 2024" for example), I think it's also important to show potential buyers that there are more big games coming to PSVR 2 in the future. It'd also help if they mentioned how many games have already shipped for the headset. The common narrative is there are no games, when in reality there's over 150. And like @stefandinu6389 said, their game selection should be better. Any time they're doing a general promo of PSVR 2, they should only use graphically impressive games and/or games that show off really fun looking VR interactions (like maybe Legendary Tales), with maybe an awesome game like Walkabout Mini Golf as the only exception.
@@GreyMatterShadeswalkabout, Arizona sunshine 2, legendary tales, vertigo 2, synapse, gran turismo, crossfire, re4, re8, horizon CotM, walking dead, no mans sky, red matter 2, I could keep going but I’m getting ahead of myself 😂. There’s a lot of them, I agree
You've got this wrong. They said their main 1st party established IP's wouldn't be getting any new releases. New entries for astrobot or Farpoint could be released. Also as an aside, GoT was 2020 as well
It’s almost as if Sony didn’t sell as many PSVR2 sets than they expected..so now they want the system to die so they don’t take too much of a loss…greed is once again killing things we love..where is the passion that developers use to have ? Now it’s all about putting out crap games as quick as possible “unfinished” and “patch it later” and for more money than the game is worth…I have no problem paying $60 for a VR game As long as the game is worth my money…Example: I just purchased Legendary Tales
Good trailer, nice to see some VR focus. This announcement shows complete brand mismanagement by PlayStation. A full year with nothing from your IPS is a massive failure.
I mean Ubisoft just tapped out because AC didn't sell on Quest, I don't see anything VR related coming from Capcom for a long time so basically it is only Sony now.
Sony paid for all of Capcom's VR ports, so if Sony is willing to write another $10 million+ cheque, we could potentially get another Capcom hybrid game. Also Ubisoft isn't necessarily bowing out of VR, they're just not expanding/increasing their VR production. At least that's what they actually said. It's been widely misreported.
I know what Ubisoft are like, they always the first to jump on fads or gimmicks and leave. This was just another one of those situations for them that didn't work out, Like Kinect and Wii U.@@GreyMatterShades
Sony needs to release a PSVR2 Revision ASAP, because no matter how many incredible exclusives it gets, including RE: Village, RE4 VR Mode, potential Astro Bot port & Sequel etc, it's going to remain forever stagnant in sales because of it's glaring hardware/feature designs. Tethered, tiny sweet spot, very uncomfortable(Zero padding around the nose), bulky, giant ringed controllers, no 'numbers' for IPD Dial, black & White passthrough, no mixed reality feature, poor 60fps reprojection, nasty god rays, the fact that it trades motion clarity for brightness using it's VR brightness dial etc. Wireless to PS5 Connection 50% Slimemer/front Visor - (Thanks to pancake lenses) Ring-less VR Controllers Pancake Lenses (Large sweet spot, clearer peripheral and improved clarity) HDR QD-LED Display (Micro-OLED is too expensive at this point, and WOLED isn't compatible with pancake) Improved silicone interface with padding IPD dial showing numbers Colour Passthrough Mixed Reality Feature 3D AR Screen using Mixed Reality feature VR Eco System Followed up with a trailer reel of games like > Resident Evil 2, 3 & 7 VR, Dead Space VR, Bioshock 1 & Infinite VR, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission Deluxe, Astro Bot 2, PSVR Worlds 2, Half Life Alex, etc etc.
No games are problem. Like even my ps5 is dust keeper. There was literally almost nothing worth it that You cannot already play on ps4 already. For VR it is much worse, not supporting aim controller, even old games are not backward compatible, like best vr game which I still play borderlands 2. I have literally 600 bucks on table gir half year and wait for single game which would make me buy it. So few people actually have vr sets, like I know one .. its small market, what is the point of doing scary games to cut this market to 15% , who can even play those apart from streamers.
I don't have a problem with the delay of AAA titles. It's unrealistic to think that these very expensive super high quality games can just churn out like butter. Sometimes you have to wait for something good. And I appreciate Sony saying it at the front so we don't have to wonder. And it hasn't been so long since we had good titles. And of course there are a million other games. I wish more developers would take the time needed to put out a high quality and bug-free game. It's not just Sony making games for the system. We can surely wait and have confidence that what comes will be great. Time passes quicker than you realize anyway. :)
The fact that they don’t do more VR versions of games is disgusting. Why is capcom, a third party studio, releasing more stuff than Sony? I don’t know what’s worse, that Sonys not making VR modes for first party games or that Call of the Mountain was so bad that it ruined VR gaming for me.
Now that Sony said no new games for 1-2 years and everything will be multiplat from now on the psvr2 is dead. No way they support this thing. Buy a quest 3 and pc.
I cant understand how they managed to ruin the comfort that they had on psvr and attached what is a far inferior headband confirt wise i was so disappointed in the comfort . I now think it was deliberate with s mid cycle update in mind ..pancake lenses better headstrap and controllers that arent the size of saturns rings and batteries thst last and a proper grip button would be good
We're still gonna get some gems from 3rd parties. Im not stressing. Im also not worried about Madison being delayed. Im more nervous than anything because it looks terrifying 😅.
The statement was also only about Sony studios and IP. Behemoth isn't a Sony game, nor is it made by a Sony studio. Metro VR is also coming. Ace Combat 8 could be coming. I doubt we'll see new IP from Sony for PSVR 2, but any new release could possibly have a hybrid mode or spinoff game attached to it. Also, they were referring to major triple-A IP, and we have no idea whether they consider games like Astrobot, Farpoint, Blood and Truth, Wipeout, or Twisted Metal to fit into that category. So basically we know very little more than we did before Sony made this announcement 🤣
I feel like they are purposely avoiding what the people want. Firewall was such a let down they could have done a Br like contractors or Ghost of tabor
Err Vr IS hyped up.... by the Quest 2/3 and pcvr....just not by psvr2 . Psvr2 is an after thought for devs now . All games are being made for quest 3 and pcvr... of psvr2 gets something.. its a port
Well i got burned on the PSVR with lack of games available and still bought the PSVR2 with the hope AAA games would be already in development, decent FPS games, Star Wars etc but no…most if the games are indie titles and Sony have really let the PSVR2 down here, graphically we know the PSVR2 should be fantastic but the majority of games i have seen and not much better than PSVR1. I won’t be burned a third time.
You do know PSVR 1 had more than 600 games, right? I've played more than 60, and would only consider maybe a handful of those to be bad games, and I haven't gotten around to a lot of the best reviewed games on the platform yet. PSVR 2 has over 150 games and it hasn't even hit its 1 year anniversary yet. The problem you're describing (and yes, it is a problem), is an issue with the VR industry in general, not PSVR 2 specifically. The install base isn't big enough to justify triple-A game budgets, but without the triple-A games the install base grows very slowly. So we mostly get small budget titles from small indie studios. I was hoping Sony would break through that perpetual catch-22 by offering a ton of hybrid and spinoff VR games, and who knows, maybe they still will. It could be that they aren't developing VR games internally, but if they keep on paying third-party developers like Capcom to make great VR hybrid games, I wouldn't feel too burned. There just needs to be more.
@@mwbp That's one way to do it, but I think the PSVR 2 is showing that VR modes alone aren't enough. I've seen flat gamers commenting on videos for the VR modes of GT7 or the RE games basically saying "Why would I pay $550 for a device when all its' best games are games I've played already?" Flat gamers don't understand what VR brings to the experience. VR modes are good, but unless they are ready at or near launch, the appeal of them drops significantly. VR also has to offer its own good looking games. Horizon Call of the Mountain could have been that, unfortunately it turned out to only be a pretty good game, not the great game Sony needed to sell headsets.
Just sony doing sony stuff as usual.. There's no reason to buy a console these days, sadly. The games take SO LONG to make, and they are so expensive to make AND to buy.. That's why Sony is releasing games on PC and PS5 now. Their own platform isn't big enough to recoup the huge costs of developing massive games. At this point I wish Sony and Microsoft would just cut the AAA stuff completely and spend those 200million dollar budgets on 20 10 million dollar games.. For a while now, AAA games have been unbelievably bland and made to be played by everyone. That's why the Spiderman games more or less play themselves... It's why Uncharted became interactive movies.. AAA games just kinda suck now. Nintendo is still doing good, the rest not so much.. The main problem is that even the big games that are released just don't get VR versions. A handful of great racing games came out last year, none of them got VR support.. Devs just don't care... So we get quest ports and that's about it. It is what it is. Very easy for Meta to swoop in and take the market when the rest are so damn lazy and spend so little money.
Not sure how true that is, Did you see the recently published Steam stats for PlayStation games on PC? Spider-man was like 60,000 units vs 10 million on PS5. In fact I'm not even sure why they are doing PC releases at all.
I totally agree about the state of triple-A gaming. Sony needs to figure out a way to make triple-A games faster/cheaper/with less staff, or move some of their studios onto a smaller project model. Their release cadence just isn't acceptable atm. An entire fiscal year without a major release from a known IP? That's ridiculous. They're getting to the point where some of their most important studios might only manage to release a single new game for the entire PS5 lifespan. That's nuts. I would absolutely love it if Sony would get even just one of their internal studios to do what Double Fine Productions does on a regular basis. They regularly do a thing called Amnesia Fortnight, where they spend two weeks making prototypes for game ideas pitched by studio employees. Anyone can pitch an idea, the whole studio votes on which ideas are the best, then teams are formed and they make the best prototype they can in two weeks. Tons of creativity comes to the forefront, junior team members can demonstrate leadership capabilities (since whoever pitches a selected game leads the team), and some of those prototypes have been built into full games. Can you imagine how many unique and interesting IP Sony could have on their hands if they did this at a single bigger studio? Even if they don't do anything quite that extreme, Sony needs to have studios making a higher number of smaller games. It would help fill the spaces between their major tentpole releases, and it could lead to the formation of the next wave of major Sony IP. Also smaller internally developed games would be more likely to be built for VR or have VR support, so it'd be a win for PSVR 2 as well.
To be fair AAA games like Spider-man are very sustainable. Movie tickets are on average about $10 around the world. With a game you sell at $70, that is 7 tickets per game unit for a game that sold 10 million. 10,000,000 * $70 = $700,000,000. It is a rough number but it keeps it well within the realm of sustainability. I think what isn't sustainable is subscription services.
But do those plans involve anything for PSVR 2? Nobody knows, and that's a problem when they're trying to sell an accessory for that price. People need to know it will be supported in the long term.
Wanderer isn't a Sony IP, nor is it developed by a Sony studio, so this announcement wouldn't have anything to do with it. Afaik it's still coming out sometime this year, but no date has been confirmed.
Dont be sad, you have bought a headset that will give you some of the best VR games available without having to buy a $2000 PC. Check out these games : RE4, no mans sky, Synapse, Galaxy's edge, Redmatter 2, Moss, Vertigo 2, GT7, Kayak VR, RE8, Vampire: The Masquerade, Sierra squad, light brigade, Horizon, Walking Dead, Pavlov, beat saber, Demeo, Synth riders, Arizona Sunshine 2, Rez, Hubris, Walkabout mini golf, Pistol whip, Until You Fall. and thats just off the top of my head. I own all of these and I enjoy all of them. I have quest 3, a beefy PC but I still really enjoy my PSVR 2.
They haven't said there will be no AAA games they have said the won't be from existing IP. Which isn't a surprise most of them have had recent releases. We have no idea what they could be cooking with new AAA games.

I use quest as well, good platform and i’ve used their headsets for videos on the channel before. I’m confident we’ll get some great games this year for PSVR2 from Sony, as they don’t see Astrobot as a Big IP for example - we’ll most likely get the next game in that series this year on PSVR2.
Well that pretty much is going to be the last nail in the PSVR2 coffin. How in gods name are you going to draw more people to use this wonderful headset if you’re not providing AAA games? Are there great indie games? Of course. But most people who play flat only typically know AAA devs and their franchises. This is going to be the end of PSVR2. If they think their sales are bad now, well……people won’t be buying this $600 headset to play indie games.
I agree this isn't a good look, but I'm not sure it's quite so doom and gloom as you think. It doesn't rule out major triple-A hybrid games from first or third party developers, nor does it rule out bigger built-for-VR games from Sony or anyone else. Metro is coming this year. Ace Combat 8 might be a full hybrid title and that could come out this year as well. It just means there won't be new entries from what Sony considers major triple-A IP. They likely don't consider Astrobot in that category, or Twisted Metal or Wipeout. Hell, for all we know, Sony was making this as a general statement but was only referring to their PS5 flat output. They might not consider a VR spinoff like Horizon CotM to be a major release.

I wish it was backwards compatible with PSVR1, even without a graphical improvement so i can just play all my VR1 games on it
I understand it was due to “technical differences” but I’m sure they could have made it work if they wanted to. Pretty dumb not having backcompat to PSVR1.
AAA games are great and all but for me its the other games that really make psvr2 good and there are plenty of VR games on steam that could get ported and It think thats where playstation need to invest
Well I mean paint the town red is coming march and I get that’s not a triple A game but that’s all I need
Madison was supposed to come out last year, so it's been more than a month's delay. They've been quietly delaying movies and games and then also doing stealth drops which is annoying and I hope all these habits aren't a thing for the future for any platform.
Remember Madison has been delayed multiple times now. 1st original release date was Halloween.
Yeah but they could have showed the good ones not arashi and ghost busters😂
@@Docholiday421 Any of those games would've been better to show than Ghostbusters 🤣
Stormland was a fun PCVR title and I think Sony owns the developer now. 🤔
Hopefully some hybrid surprises from old games like last of us, kill zone or some psvr1 upgrades as Psvr1 library still surpasses most vr libraries.
You've got this wrong. They said their main 1st party established IP's wouldn't be getting any new releases. New entries for astrobot or Farpoint could be released.
Also as an aside, GoT was 2020 as well
i do cover farpoint in the video :)
but yes, a new astro bot is rumoured for this year!
Could, yes. But the fact they mentioned none of them, seems like they have nothing cooking for this year and are relying exclusively on third party.
Have to say the title is misleading and fodder for the haters since the announcement from Sony covers all PS5 and not just PSVR2.
It’s also not “no new IP” it’s “no new titles from established IP” so the entire opposite of what he says in this video.
Wireless to PS5 Connection
50% Slimemer/front Visor - (Thanks to pancake lenses)
Ring-less VR Controllers
Pancake Lenses (Large sweet spot, clearer peripheral and improved clarity)
HDR QD-LED Display (Micro-OLED is too expensive at this point, and WOLED isn't compatible with pancake)
Improved silicone interface with padding
IPD dial showing numbers
Colour Passthrough
Mixed Reality Feature
3D AR Screen using Mixed Reality feature
VR Eco System
Followed up with a trailer reel of games like >
Resident Evil 2, 3 & 7 VR, Dead Space VR, Bioshock 1 & Infinite VR, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission Deluxe, Astro Bot 2, PSVR Worlds 2, Half Life Alex, etc etc.
Honestly atleast Sony actualy told us something
That something was "we are releasing nothing" lol
That's disappointing. I was waiting for the new AAA Sony game called "What Lies Behind the Mura". I guess I'll be playing flat for a long while.
I now think it was deliberate with s mid cycle update in mind ..pancake lenses better headstrap and controllers that arent the size of saturns rings and batteries thst last and a proper grip button would be good
I wish we had backwards compatibility with ps4 vr games, theres so many of them
Im super sad no spiderman vr is dropping or major titles but behemoth seems fun
So much potential with the games they just don’t pay attention that much or try
We're still gonna get some gems from 3rd parties. Im not stressing. Im also not worried about Madison being delayed. Im more nervous than anything because it looks terrifying 😅.
definitely!
hitman 3 should be ported psvr2
I just got a psvr2……..great jussssssttee great
The statement is EXISTING IP. This means new IP will come this year. Behemoth is new IP slated for 2024
The statement was also only about Sony studios and IP.
Stilts is pretty awesome
Is CyubeVR still supposed to come out this month?
Hopefully, they should include mobs in the game, because without enemies it's gonna be less fun
I feel like they are purposely avoiding what the people want. Firewall was such a let down they could have done a Br like contractors or Ghost of tabor
I have the other version of Madison with the Madison VR be free for me or a little bit of a discount do you guys know?
Metro vr will hype up vr again for sure
Err Vr IS hyped up.... by the Quest 2/3 and pcvr....just not by psvr2 . Psvr2 is an after thought for devs now . All games are being made for quest 3 and pcvr... of psvr2 gets something.. its a port
Everyday I'm angry that they haven't even added the essential UI for GT7.
PSVR 2 is already dying !
Way too expensive for what it is and what you can play on it.
Twisted Metal will launch with a VR mode
@@GreyMatterShades i still think the only way to bring VR into the mainstream gaming world is too have a dedicated VR mode in games
6:57 ghost of tsushima also came out in 2020
Just sony doing sony stuff as usual..
It means... they are planning ahead.
But do those plans involve anything for PSVR 2? Nobody knows, and that's a problem when they're trying to sell an accessory for that price. People need to know it will be supported in the long term.
Good job 😅💋
Where's Wanderer???
Wanderer isn't a Sony IP, nor is it developed by a Sony studio, so this announcement wouldn't have anything to do with it. Afaik it's still coming out sometime this year, but no date has been confirmed.
As someone who only bought a PSVR2 a week ago, this makes me sad :')
But are you sad about the PS5 not getting any AAA games? Cause that is what the announcement said. It is not specific just to the PSVR2
@@deadringer28 Yes and no, I have a fairly big backlog of games to go through atm, but once I’m done with them then what?
@linzkirk Thank-you for encouraging people to support the system instead of tearing it down.
They haven't said there will be no AAA games they have said the won't be from existing IP. Which isn't a surprise most of them have had recent releases. We have no idea what they could be cooking with new AAA games.
The takes in the comments here are puzzling. You guys are okay not getting VR versions of existing/future full games because youve got 5 hour mediocre games like Call of the Mountain and Blood and Truth/astrobot last gen? We EaTiNg GoOd FaM Lmao
Thank god tlou games arent being released. absolute trash games. Spidey 2 was a huge disappointment. Only GOT 2 has my attention. the rest of sonys gamea are trash man. get a quest 3 mate, i keep saying it. tying yourself to the dying platform of psvr 2 aint doing you any favours mate. I suggest yoy do your research on vr before making videos. i had a psvr 1, yoyr sayong wait 5 yeara for more ganes. mate, thats a total cope. why pay £500 for a platform with no first party support. this is a total cope video man. embarrassing.
The ps5 hasn’t gotten many first party games in general though so why is anyone suprised
@@theclassicgamer20 Well the PS5 is selling like crazy. PSVR2 is not. And by not releasing AAA titles, that’ll pretty ensure it won’t sell anymore. PlayStation is the only competition to PCVR. I would think they would see it as a gold mine. It’s much cheaper than buying a PC and a PCVR by magnitudes. And it’s right on par with most PCVR. It’s an amazing device and they’re blowing it.

Sony killed psvr2... theyve released ONE game since release.. . One... how shameful Sony. They said it plainly and loudly in an interview last month that PSVR is not something that is very important that they focus on. I thonk the original PSVR salesnwill end up being better than the 2..
