Hi Paul, maybe put some carriage bolts on the mounts, hang the bolt below the tray and tack weld the nut to the bolt. Of course do this once everything is sorted. Good insurance for theft protection, however a pain in the butt if you need to make adjustments. If you need to remove the mounts you would have to zip off the bolt and nut, but that is cheap. Then one last lock on the tray. I work for a large utility company and the guys before me here have been using carriage bolts and welded nuts for a while and it seems to help with theft quite a bit. Project is looking great.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see the point in even locking the fork mounts in. Just remove the quick release on the forks and the whole bike comes out. Minus the through axel

The build is coming along great! I've heard you mention converting the DH bike into a Mullet a couple of times. Make sure you look into that. From everything I've heard, it's best to start with a 27.5 bike and add the bigger front wheel. When you mullet a 29er, the geo tends to end up pretty far off. Much slacker, lower BB, slacker seat angle, etc. Might not be too big of an issue with a DH tho, since you won't be pedaling much 🤷‍♂️

How tight are clearances all around? As in, when the van is moving and bumping up and down, and forks and shocks and tyres are compressing etc, is there wiggle room so that levers and pedals don't gouge the surfaces? Or get gouged? Just hard to see on camera exactly, but genuinely curious as to how much play the pro installers allow, for future builds myself

    • @PaulThePunter

I've been riding this bike for 7 years now! ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L It was a great bike the day I got it, put it together, and went on my first ride; more importantly it's an even better bike today. I've ridden trails, street, and skatepark all on this bike. I have replaced almost every part on the bike. Some stuff has broken: derailleurs, wheels, shifter. Everything else were upgrades. The only ramaing original parts are the frame, bottom bracket, and crank set. BB and cranks will be upgraded soon. The geometry isn't great but that is really the only draw back to how good a value this bike is. Even after all the money I've spent upgrading it's still a more affordable bike than I'd have bought from a proper bike shop, especially with full suspension. I've also learned a lot about bikes working on it over the years. It really is one of the best perchases I've ever made and hopefully it'll still be around for another 7 years.

Hey Paul, I am just curios if you had thought about letting the air out of your forks to lower them about 10cm or more. As your driver side storage room is too high for that it doesnt make any sense now, but I am building a van in the future too and considering doing that to have more space over the bed.
    Cheers man! :-)

@@PaulThePunter totally understand that. Maybe i will do that just to have that extra 10 - 15cm. I would say its about 1 minute extra to refill them with the shock pump...
