    This is a no brainer. Certainly slate is preferable. I think a better topic for a video is if you have compromised finances or space, such that a pool table might have to be moved, and you are not a pro--in other words, you're just a regular guy who likes to relax with his friends or family and play pool--can you still gain satisfaction from playing on one made from MDF? And the answer is yes. They CAN warp, but if you take care of them and don't expose them to extreme fluctuations of humidity and temperature, they won't warp.
    I have a bumper pool table from the '70s--one of the junkiest one's made sold by Sears--that spent 20 years in my garage in Philly, and the MDF is virtually unaffected.

    I want a MDF Table just for at home to play around with friends and family
    and I'll go to the pub or bowling alley to play on a Slate Table lol
    A MDF Table for the house with a ball return system just to bowl the balls into the pockets by hand like I'm playing bowling 😂

    What about pool tables with marble instead of slate? And what about using a higher quality cloth on a cheaper slab? I'm looking at buying a cheap snooker table using an HDF frame and marble slabs.

    I play in a league and want to get better. No aspiration to ever go pro. I’m thinking a MDF table could help with my aim and stroke. Maybe not so much with banks, kicks or speed control, because of the difference with the bumpers and felt. Is this right? Which one would you suggest for someone like me? Thank you.

    My thinking is that anything flat covered with the same cloth is going to play the same...you said that pockets/rails are different on an mdf table so if the mdf table makers just make everything identical apart from the bed then you wouldn't be able to tell the difference

    I want to build my own pool table and consider using MDF for the play table. My home improvement center has either "raw MDF" or "laminated" (melamine). I think the latter could be a good choice in case some one spill a drink over. Any thoughts?

      @@jalee6587 You don't seem to get it. People want MDF so they can move the table around. Not everyone has endless amounts of space in their homes. And not everyone wants or needs to be a pro. Did it ever occur to you that if MDF tables were so bad, how come this company offers so many and they sell so well? If they were all such crap, word would get around and nobody would buy them.

    • @libertygamesuk
      @libertygamesuk  3 дні тому

      Hi there, unfortunately you can't. The construction of an MDF bed pool table differs from that of a slate bed table, and the stone slate would be too heavy for the MDF table to support. Hope that helps, thanks for your question!

    Mdf swells because well it’s particle board. Which means warping . Slate is the only way to go

    • @JohnOsCreations
      @JohnOsCreations 6 місяців тому

      MDF will only swell if it soaks up water from a large spill especially on the edges. Otherwise it will not swell with changes in humidity or temperature in the room. You can also purchase moisture resistant mdf which is used in bathrooms etc. I'm a carpenter / joiner by trade.

    • @MrTrashcan1
      @MrTrashcan1 9 місяців тому +1

      @@pgale Slate is a stone, so it's dimensionally stable. It will be the same a million years from now. MDF is made from wood which is dimensionally less stable--is more affected by temperature and humidity changes. That said, I have an MDF bumper pool table that's been sitting in my garage for 20 years and I finally have the time and space to refurbish it. The felt and bumpers are shot, but the MDF bed is still fine.

    MDF tables: suck but are cheap and good for people who lack expirience on a slate bed table.
    Slate bed: more expensive and way better.
