Cymbals come in natural and brilliant finishes; Nigel Maynard and Matt Sullivan did a great job at discussing this topic at a cymbal drum clinic that I attended. They talked about how cymbals get a brilliant finish, and the sound differences between brilliant and natural cymbal finishes.

Are you able to choose between natural and brillant when you are buying a cymball? I dont see that option available anywhere

Hmm, I was thinking the other way round! I wonder if just polishing a traditional cymbal a lot will give it more brilliant characteristics...
