I love these torture tests, let’s us all know these knives are more than just expensive toys. It’s good to know Microtechs can handle some real work, I feel much better buying one to actually carry and use and not to simply collect.
Your videos have given me enough faith in the Microtech brand to take a chance on obtaining a OTF. I had no idea they were so tough and of actual use instead of a gimmick. Thank you, Sir.
Nice demonstration. Love this knife. I hadn’t heard that saying “It’s going to hurt me more than you. My father said that one time while he was going to spank me and I told him why are you going to spank me then. He smiled and gave me a lecture instead. Thanks Ray have a great weekend.
I like that you did the knife overview at the end rather than the beginning. Usually it would be done the other way by most channels, this was better. Thumbs up!
It's me! LOL I haven't been on UA-cam much this weekend, been very busy in the gun room. This is hard to watch, that is one sweet blade! That blade is incredible, the way it cut through that tire like it was bread! I really need to get one of these Microtech wonder knives!! Bradford, PA must be one super cool cities to make Microtech knives and Zippo lighters in the same city. :) I love the style of that Hellhound blade, plus it is large and in charge. Another awesome video brother, and love the banana spearing at the end. Cheers!
I heard that saying a couple times. lol. More from my mom. I love these Microtech videos you're doing. It will really help me on which one I will get. The one they gave KB is a really nice one too. Good stuff my friend
I know this is an old video, but thanks for that last bit comparing the power. I'd been wondering about the punch through power of the Halo's since I first saw it on 24. Thanks!!
A DA OTF doesn't operate at all like a SA OTF - unless you consider the blade flying out the front to be "the same." The SA is much simpler, and can be built far more robustly. It's basically a handle with a blade slot and a long coil spring, and a button that holds the blade retracted, and locks it when open. A SA OTF can be equipped with a spring powerful enough to shoot the blade fully into a human if held in contact, and the best example of that is the Russian Ballistic knife that had a spring so powerful it could launch the blade out of the handle like a dart, with striking energy 4x greater than a human arm delivered manual stab. By have a large actuation button with matching blade detents, a SA OTF is quite strong when fully extended if built with adequate blade length retrained inside the handle. The mechanism is no weaker than the garden variety hinged blade when built right - like the Halo series. OTH a DA OTF is an entirely different system. It uses an ingenious system where the actuation button works the internals through a coil spring interface. When retracted, pushing the button forward, extends a long, slender coil spring connected to a tension arm that places the blade under forward tension. The blade is locked in place by a small, retractable lug. When the tension arm slide forward it depresses the lug at the same time it has placed the blade base under tension so the blade suddenly unlocks and flies out, being carried to its forward lock by inertia. The forward lock is basically a mirror image of the rear, and when the actuation button is pulled back, a forward tension arm applies pressure as it moves aft, releasing the lug and the blade flies into the handle and locks in place. The actuation springs could be sized larger to deliver a stronger opening push, but this would mean a much stiffer button and much larger handle body to house the oversized parts. While a DA OTF could be sized and scaled to be strong, it cannot be "stronger" than a SA design, nor more reliable in action. A quick snap of the wrist while actuating the blade going in or out can easily sap enough blade inertia to malfunction the knife. Which is "better?" Generally speaking the DA OTF is more convenient because it can operated with one hand, but they tend to have greater tolerances to insure the blade has the least resistance possible - remember a piece of paper can stop the blade. With that said, they aren't under much stress at all when it comes to stabbing into human tissue - or a substitute. For someone who wants the next best thing to a fixed blade dagger in an OTF, the SA with quality construction and powerful spring is ideal. They launch hard, lock up solid and have larger engagement surfaces and can have much closer blade fitment to the handle slot because the blade has positive force applied throughout the entire launching stroke. Because the spring is basically static when cocked, the factory spring can be replaced with a stronger spring capable of firing the blade through heavy clothing, and it's easily held in place by the large locking button. Much derision is heaped on Chinese copies of the Halo V and VI, but they are amply strong enough for a street fight, and stronger than a DA OTF design - even one built by MT.
I bought a knock off Halo V from China. I also bought a genuine Halo VI. No comparison. I shouldn't have wasted the $50 and just gotten the real deal to begin with. Ashamed to admit I bought the knock off, but maybe someone will read my comment and not waste their time and money on one. Thanks for the video! Very informative!
So what did you see in difference from the counterfeit Halo V and the real Microtech Halo V. I own a real Microtech Halo V, i like to know what your take is on that? I never dreamed of buying one of those fake Halo V because i think its just unamerican to buy a copied knife that origins from america from another country especially China. Those people should be shut down from importing goods that they did not patent and should be put in jail in China.
Great review on the halo tech the only thing I dont like about it is the way you have too retract the blade but DAMN you put those poor blade through HELL but a person that puts out great reviews will do whatever it takes to make the product prove itself
Like the shirt man! I’m here in Albuquerque! I just bought my first Ultratech, And now I need another haha! The videos are Awsome! Keep up the great work
I would love a Halo 6 but like you said I probably wouldn't Cary it much. Even with the ultratech you have to be aware of the laws crossing state lines. Very cool knife though and I may decide to buy one one day. I haven't seen a Halo at the dealer near me but they do have a pretty good selection. Thanks for the video.
@@XRING There's an app that I've seen other knife reviewers use which randomly picks a winner out of your subscribers that comment on the video for the giveaway.
It should be noted that the hellhound blade shape is a very poor cutter overall. I would recommend the standard tanto or drop point if you plan on usin a HALO
As always...great video! I would like to see the torture test on a Socom Elite Auto with an underwater deployment, knife throwing ( even though i know you don't recommend it) and everything else you can think of. By the way, I live in a place where bears come down to the city all the time. I realise i don't stand a chance against a bear but....would a Socom Elite Auto/Manual would even bother a bear if it comes to it? Just throwing some ideas out there ;)
I love how he Acts like we'll I don't think it will be able to take all this damage!? Well if I'm paying 800 for a knife I hope that it is made well enough to handle small or big tasks
You literally just asked a knife manufacturer which of their knives are best for stabbing people. Combine that with thinking knives are even viable for self defense and you've proven how intelligent you are. Good running shoes are the best self defense. Confidence in your hands is the second, and a distant third is a firearm. Without years of training, even a rock or a stick is way better than a knife for self defense. Theres a saying we have, the loser of a knife fight is the guy that dies in the street, the winner is the one that dies in the hospital. Seriously, reconsidering the way you think, at this point, is your most valuable self defense tool. Some free advice from a 20+ year firearms amd cqc instructor. Take that as you will.
Eyedea315 May b he is sick of running and trying to keep the law. Some commy states don’t allow guns and why should he run. They should run. O and years of training. Haha. Like the thugs have. They seem to get it done. Let the guy do his thing. That’s not the question he asked.
Occasionally, I carry my VI just in my pocket because unlike the Halo V I sold to get money for the VI, it has a sorta safety, you need to press forward on it deliberately and then press the button down. Could me moving my pants around get the safety off? Maybe, but hasn't happened
Hey Scott, Not to talk to you out of this knife, but it is much larger than the Combat and does not have a pocket clip. I would stay with the Combats or look at one of the new Dirac Deltas.
When I got a whippin from dad, I always broke the stick. He would quit then. He always said I was over grown! Hard to beat a mule into paying attention.
hi my name is Brett I was wondering about my Halo 5 and lubrication does this specific knife the Halo require any lubrication or does it need to be completely dry to operate correctly?
@@XRING thank you so much for responding, I didn't see the reply and I absolutely love your videos and the company (Microtech Knives) you work for, I think it's the greatest in the world, take care.
It has a constant pressure so it doesn’t bounce back like most OTF’s. It will not go through a hard fruit. But it does hit much much harder than most OTF’s.

I'd love to see how the insides of the handles look on these knives after these tests. I've never said Microtech is junk, they're not. However, I won't personally pay for a knife with an ALUMINUM handle. I don't care what blade steel you have (blade steel science isn't much of one anymore) in one, who may have ground or polished the blade, what it's named, etc. An aluminum handle is basically, in my opinion at least, no better than pot metal.
Many handguns, shotguns and rifle frames are aluminum. I wouldn't work, mainly to the large contact surfaces, think like a cog. There's no way a human will ever generate enough force to break those surfaces
Listen to Willfish, aluminum is still used in a lot of the fastest aircraft and high-performing cars on this planet, so I don't know what the hell you're talking about.

Solid knife is an understatement, that is a really great knife!! Banana test approved! 👍👍👍
Very nice torture test as one awesome blade.....Good details on the single vs double strike knife....Good stuff....

As a microtech owner this is hard to watch but also very nice to see how durable they are since i couldn't do this to my own microtechs.
As beautiful as it is, the hellhound blade is so impractical
13:01 he dies inside when the blade drops in
Great video. I own two and they are awesome.❤️💙👍

The shorter one is fully semi-automatic😱
What the hell is that supposed to mean?
Would have been interesting if you would have used a pumpkin or watermelon!
Last part of the video was the selling point for me.
Ray how can I get a black on black halo tanto?..willin to spend the $$$ just looks like I’m too late
Question how come you don't test like this on the other microtech blades? I recently bought a hera can it handle this type of beating?
It just a time thing some are not as robust as others. I would never torture test the x-70. Very small internal parts.
I have halo3, consider it the best for sorties to the forest)) 👌 Excellent review, thanks!
Halo 3 is a classic Mario. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend!
You have a good weekend too!) And in your opinion, what is better than halo3 or 5 (6)? I am halo 5 embarrassed by extra sounds))))
