The historic centre of Santa Marta is where most tourists go when they visit because it's safe, full of character and home to many different boutique hotels and hostels. Not only that, Santa Marta is a must if you are looking to visit Tayrona National Park, Minca or Palomino.

The going high season rate for a room like that is usually 100 bucks? Wow, that seems high now that I've been here in Colombia for 5 years. I guess the place fills up with well off snow birds from up north eh?
Yeah, a little on the high side but great service and breakfast included in arguably best downtown location. Definitely hurting with less international travelers around.

SANTA MARTA is the BEST! Cartagena is a shit hole compare with Santa Marta. I would skip Cartagena if you want have good souvenir in Colombia....
