Chana Dal Biryani Recipe

  • Ingredients:
    Chana
    1 cup soaked chana dal
    1 ½ cup water
    ½ tsp salt
    ¼ tsp turmeric
    Sauce
    ¼ cup cooking oil
    1 large onion
    1 ½ tsp garlic paste
    1 ½ tsp ginger paste
    ½ tsp turmeric
    1 ½ tsp red chili
    2 small tomatoes
    1 tsp salt
    4 tbsp plain yogurt
    1 tsp garam masala
    ¼ tsp cardamom powder
    ¼ cup water
    2 tbsp fresh coriander
    2 tbsp fresh mint
    Rice
    3 cloves
    1 small cinnamon stick
    2 cardamom
    1 tsp shah jeera
    3 tsp salt
    1 ½ cup water
    2 cups-soaked rice
    3-4 green chilies
    1 tbsp ghee
    Instructions:
    1. Cook soaked chana with water, salt and turmeric until tender
    2. Transfer chana to a bowl
    3. Drizzle cooking oil in a pan and fry sliced onion until golden brown
    4. Set aside the 2/3 of the fried onion for later use
    5. Stir in garlic paste and ginger paste to the remaining fried onions on the pan
    6. Add turmeric, red chili, salt, diced tomatoes and cook for 2-3 minutes with the lid on
    7. Add plain yogurt, chana dal, cardamom powder, garam masala, water and fresh coriander
    8. In a separate pan, bring water to a boil with cloves, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, shah jeera and salt
    9. Add soaked basmati rice and cook for 6 minutes
    10. Layer rice with chana dal, fried onions, green chilies, ghee, fresh mint and coriander
    11. Cover with lid and cook for 10 minutes on low heat
    12. Gently mix before serving
    13. Ready to Enjoy!
