I think the biggest thing WotC isn't addressing is that a great deal of the appeal for No-Bans Historic was that you could play all the cards with no limits and no wildcards. I can't imagine that the queue is going to get much love when it's neither a novelty nor a reasonable place to invest wildcards realistically. Historic Brawl had staying power by only requiring one of each card, so when it became a fixed queue it retained its players, but I just don't see that happening with Timeless as effectively.
This is a really good point. The one thing that could potentially help is some players getting some of the staples from drafting Strixhaven/ Wilds of Eldraine / Eldraine for Oko. Or getting cards for free when they were getting banned in other formats (Uro, Omnath for example).
while its an expsensive start for most people over time the format doesnt cost much to maintain, as in most new cards wont have an impact on the format, and a deck like thoracle might be a suprising cheap deck for hisoric/historic brawl players as you most likely have most of the cards already and only need 1 copy of (expect thoracle and tained pact)

Been on arena for quite few years now and trust me, that will not be a problem. Limited crew will know what I am talking about

Paper cards all have their original text. The rebalanced legal is just for the digital only cards (ie Alchemy)
Except that there are original alchemy cards that are not just rebalanced standard cards
1:25 I might be wrong here, but the rebalancement is there only for digital only cards right? Like crucias being a 3/1 instead of a 3/3 like it was originally, and since threeferi is a tabletop print it'll only exist as a 3 mana card on timeless
I believe you are correct. The only cards that will have the buffs/nerfs will be the original to Alchemy(digital only) cards. All cards that were printed irl will be as printed irl. Though i'm not positive either.

@@BlackJustice2637 Wizards definitely could have been more clear about the whole thing. For instance, I havent even seen anything on if the fetch lands will be legal in Historic Brawl.
@@Jackson666fanGiven that they are banned in Historic, and Brawl uses the Historic version of cards, I'm guessing that they will be banned there too.

Regarding Intruder Alarm, I can confirm that a combo deck works well. I had a pretty good record with Temur Intruder Alarm in the second Histroric No Banlist event. The deck went infinite with Intruder Alarm alongside either Presence of Gond or Reflections + a mana dork (plus 3x Rona to dig to the WAR Samut if needed, which gave everything haste and could be cast solely off of mana from Elves and/or Halflings). There was also good digging available, I was able to build a manabase that could afford to let me run 8 Elves and 4 Halflings, and interaction was solid in the form of Spell Pierce and Bolt.
The other deck I had a ton of fun and success with was Temur Murktideless, which was basically just a build of Modern Temur Murktideless (with Questing Druid over Murktide Regent) minus fetches and plus Oko. Now that fetches will be in the format, it'll literally just be Modern Temur Murktideless + Fetches + Brainstorm, which I expect will be a ton of fun to play .
Incredibly excited for Timeless. I have truly enjoyed the no/nearly-no ban list events this year. When they have been active they are all that I play.
I'm excited to see what you and the other content creators come up with for this format, CGB. Gonna be fun.

What is wild is they can add cards to the format that are ALREADY on arena because of Alchemy cards. So they could easily add the tron lands, the original dual lands, and even the power 9🤯

I've been prepping decks and theory crafting with some of the Brawl Hub and Stronghold members. Got Delver and UW Control wrapped up, now working on Rakdos Burn and Pact/Thoracle. Might also try out a green natural order deck with the one of channel. I've also heard of a GB Deathrite Shaman deck in the works from a few people since the fetch lands will be legal. 4 Color Omnath might also be good.
Did I mention Khans of Tarkir drops the same day as Timeless? We'll have the 5 allied fetch lands so a lot of decks are on the menu

Best sneak attack cards are Atraxa (who's proven good with sneak attack in other formats) and Worldspine Wurm (here's 15 power of hasty trample, and it leaves 15 power of trample afterwards; there's a cost to having a fetch/shock manabase!). Without show and tell or into the breach for redundancy with Sneak Attack, I don't know how consistent/good it will be.

I'm with you. I have a rather extensive collection... going back 5 years... and I still can't just build anything I want. I'm always short 10-20 rares.
Arena economy is a joke.
F2P is pick 1-2 colors and a narrow theme and play that deck till the end of time.
Its just historic version of vintage

The fact they actually listened to their customers and are featuring no ban historic as a constructed format with paper cards in original printing and digital cards in current printing is great. They'll be smart if they hand out a few wilds for free since we've not been able to open things like Ragavan in packs. At least make the $10 for 4 rare wilds go on sale. It's offensive how they took their $50 for 12 rares and 4 mythics and made it $20 for 4 wilds and $10 for 4 rares (same price split up when people were shocked at their greed initially.)
My thoughts on this format are
1. Oh no, Nexus flashbacks
2. I'm too poor to engage with this format in any way, so I'm not stressing in the end
well, it is eternal, so you technically only need to build one Deck
crazy how they found a way to implement a legacy/vintage like format digitally so arena players can also be gatekept out of a hideously overpriced format, just like paper players! (building a timeless deck will be no where near as bad as building a legacy deck is nowadays but you get what I mean)

This will only be a problem initially, though. Yes, the buy-in will be quite steep and will require a lot of WC's for the format staples, but once those are out of the way... It's hardly an expensive format to maintain your decks... Your collection will only expand.
Timeless is no more "expensive" to get into than Historic is for new players. It's not that big of an issue to me. I'm just happy I finally get a place to play with all my cards that have been sitting in my collection gathering digital dust because they're banned. I'm not going to complain that I don't also own every other card in the format lol.
Dragons Rage Channeler, Unholy Heat, The One Ring and Bowmaster are all legal in their original printing also Delver and Death Rite Shaman have now their support with fetches and Brainstorm.
I am not sure what to think about Timeless. On one hand an Arena format with all of Arenas cards is not a bad idea. But on the other hand what is it's purpose when lots of ppl aren't found of alchemy cards and where does it leave historic? So my proposal would be: leave Timeless as announced as an "Arena Legacy" sort of and transfer historic into a "Modern light" format, as it was intended?, similar to how Explorer behaves towards Pioneer, so get rid of Alchemy and balances, unban various cards and after Pioneer Masters is done (jokes on me ...) implement a Modern Arena Masters to achieve at least "Tournament Modern" on Arena

I’m really excited for this. I have hated opening cards in recent sets that are literally not legal anywhere. It has always confused me why those cards are even on Arena
To separate MTGO from MTGA by giving the latter something to identify with just like MTGO has full Commander support as its token to identify itself
Can pretty much make a modern jund list with the existing cards, ragavan, bolt, fetches, Goyf etc. sounds fun

Sneak and Show in Legacy plays Atraxa anyway... with no Emi15, Etali and King Gris are probably the next best options that are available on Arena.
I am glad they are making a format where cards they have released on the platform that have been banned in every possible format since before they were even released, feels bad opening a mythic you literally can't play, but, what the hell is the point of having two eternal formats on Arena which both use digital cards? So many people hate them, that surely it would make more sense, and would most likely, ultimately be more profitable for WotC, if one of the two formats, don't care which, dispensed with them entirely and was actually analogous to paper Magic? And in theory, people might then buy these decks in paper? Making Wizards even more profit? A wild idea, I know. But no, let's keep banging the Alchemy drum, despite the clear evidence that essentially nobody gives a crap about it.

@@honestabe411 I would imagine the one that is already restricted Vintage would be the one to take the hit. Though I do see the argument to restrict DR as well, unless other super explosive mana producers(mox, other rituals, tron lands, etc) plan to be added.

Depends on how they going to do matchups. Will they use ranking, deck tiers, random or all?
They stuffed up standard when they started using deck tier and ranking to do matchups.
Brawl stays fun because of tier matchups, but that was also the reason why it never became a ranked format.
With deck and card tier matchups there is no meta. They can enforce a 51% win rate for all decks.
This format looks like it exists to justify commander/timeless brawl

I like the idea behind timeless. What I don't like is that there is ranked and games there will he super short, so it will be very hard for me to get to 250 cause I don't have the wildcards to play it;(((
Then don't play Ranked Timeless? I don't really understand the problem lol. If you want to play ranked but don't have a competitive collection for Timeless, just play Historic Ranked or Standard Ranked lol.
Seems like an odd thing to be upset about, that's like going to a Modern tournament and being upset that you can only afford a budget deck.

I don’t know about timeless to be honest. The format seems like it could be fun, but I’m just not sure who it’s for except for legacy vintage players maybe. At the end of the day all I really want is a format where I can play without alchemy or rebalancing.
I, too, would love an eternal format without Alchemy and rebalancing. But this format is quite clearly for people who want to play with the cards they've been unable to play with due to bannings. That is quite literally WHO this format is for. It doesn't need to be for everyone (and it definitely isn't for everyone).
I'm glad WotC finally pulled their finger out and did SOMETHING about the constantly growing list of cards we have on the client that can't be played due to being banned. It also makes me far more optimistic about Modern Horizons 3 coming to the client.
Before Timeless was announced, I really wasn't hyped for MH3 at all, because I knew all the big hitters from the set were just going to be pre-banned in Historic. Now we'll actually have a place for these cards to be played!
If my math is right Arena now has more living formats than paper magic right? Vintage, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Standard, Commander versus Standard, Alchemy, Historic, Explorer, Timeless, Brawl, Historic Brawl... am I forgetting any?
Seems like a lot of not super relevant subdivisions honestly. Definitely not a sky is falling moment but I do wonder how actually relevant the sixth Arena-exclusive format can be.
I've got mixed feelings.... on one hand I'm looking forward to playing a truly busted format where everything is legal and i can play all the cards in my collection unlocking some wacky combos and very rude control decks but on the other hand its yet another format i have to keep up with that will eat up my wild cards and time. Plus idk how its not going to be a extremely repetitive format where its the same handful of top tier decks being played over and over again only getting a few cards each set that make any sort of impact on the meta could get stale very quickly and slow to evolve imo but I'm looking forward to it none the less and rather curious to see if it will be a format that sees play at worlds

I don't even know how many people are going to be playing this format. Feels like it's only aimed at whales and long-timers, and my impression is that it's going to split the people who are already playing historic.
I still don't understand the difference between explorer and historic and the game doesn't really explain so I'm not even going to worry about timeless because It's just another format that I won't be playing.
If they've given back our Counterspell, and Timewarp, then there's just the slightest chance a monoBlue will be viable
I’m maybe a little concerned that Timeless will will be in direct competition with Historic, but oh man am I ready to crack some fetches and drop some fields of the dead.
Omg I cannot WAIT to play with Field of the Dead again, especially with Primeval Titan on the client (it's been so lame not having any real payoffs for Primeval Titan outside of Maze's end).
I also don't really think Historic and Timeless will be in direct competition with each other. They're both going to have their own metagames and will scratch a different itch. People will still play Historic for all the Alchemy buffs of paper cards (think Wizards and Ninjas) and for when they want a break from the INSANE power level of Timeless. It's going to be so nice having Historic and Timeless to jump between.
@@boringmonkey6958 not everyone has the budget to buy in on two huge formats, which will affect metagame variety and queue times, but maybe the hype of cracking fetches will be enough to bring in more people.

I think this format is to close to Historic. If it is fun to play the format without the banned cards, why not just unban them in Historic? I think there eas a reason to ban them, or? Now we have two MTGA eternal formats - and both (yes I say it) with the Alchemy cards most players don't like. I think many players are more waiting for a MTGA playmode like "Eternal without the Alchemy stuff" or "HB without the Alchemy stuff"
Technically speaking, Historic isn't considered like an eternal format but something as a "Digital Live Format" (Even I don't know what does it means for real). Anyway I totally agree with you about a true eternal format on Arena without all this digital nonsense, and the same is applied for HB. I still hope in a 4 player Commander experience, but for that I think we'll have to wait for ages.

I do not think their definition of "on Arena" includes cards that are not craftable.
What is extremely funny to me is the amount of players, especially standard players who say that thios would eb too expensive, like bro a rarae wildcard is a rare wildcard and meta standard decks are just about as full of them as this is gonna be, except you get to keep playing those in eternal formats...

I'll straight up give it like a week before Ritual or Necropotence is restricted/banned. That seems like a prominent candidate to take over the format almost immediately.

I know your time is kinda taken up but would be cool to see like once or twice a week where you play timeless on your channel along with your historic brawl and standard videos been watching you for so long and I watch all of your content even the masterpieces that are your songs like they play mono red, and gin but if you ever feel the need to take a break from the norm

Meh... Oko was never as bad as his reputation. It was the spike in complaints from youtubers that got him banned.
I was ecstatic with the Timeless announcement... Until I read the part that they included Digital-Only Cards. God, I can't describe how heartbroken I am with this format... It could have been Arena's Vintage, but in the end it's just another Alchemy spawn. Won't play it, won't watch it, sadly 😢
See, I initially had the same reaction. I thought, "Ffs WotC just LET US play an eternal format WITHOUT Alchemy, why do we need Alchemy in both Historic AND Timeless?!".
But now that some time has passed, I'm really not TOO fussed by it. Other than maybe Fragment Reality, I really don't see Alchemy cards making any impact in Timeless. Thus, I think it will be rare that you run into many Alchemy cards. I feel like most people who want to play Alchemy cards will just stay in Historic.
I just don't see many Alchemy cards standing a chance against Swords, Ritual, Counterspell, Bolt, Oko, Ragavan, Thoracle & Tainted Pact, Veil, Once Upon a Time, T3feri... I'm not too worried. I really don't think we're going to see much Alchemy nonsense in Timeless.
Or maybe I'm just huffing MAD copium 😂

@@boringmonkey6958 It's not a question of power level, it's a question of principle. I don't want to interact with Digital-Only Cards in any kind of way in my Magic: the Gathering experience. I'm not invalidating those who wish to experience this, but it's not what I want, and it's not what the overwhelming majority of the MTG community wants (if you don't believe this just look at any comment section of WotC MTG platforms, UA-cam and Instagram, the feedback is there). And I played enough of No Bans to know that even with 4 Demonic Tutors, many decks were also running 4 Assemble the Team. So I'm just going to continue play paper Legacy 100% proxies with my friends independently of Arena, and will not interact with Timeless in any way
