Notion has finally released native Notion Charts! 😍 Which means you don't really need these workarounds anymore - instead, check out this video for a complete guide (plus the best use cases) for Notion Charts: ua-cam.com/video/WBl7Xvnr7bg/v-deo.html
This is great, but the problem I see is that filters you apply to a table or chart don't apply to the live view or embeds. This limitation means you can't share a chart based on a subset of your data (relevant if you had a large database where certain parts are private or sensitive).
That’s a general limitation in Notion. Applying filters also won’t allow you to securely share a subset of data. Without using third party tools (or one of the workarounds for niche situations), it’s impossible to do that in Notion atm
If I add a new row of information to my table (in Notion), this new information does not appear in the chart, even when I update the data in Rows Do I have to add new information direct to Rows? Thanks for the awesome video
@mfreihaendig I don't know if this has a specific name. I have a table view with some properties and the information I'm talking about is when I click "new" and a new row is added to my list and I can complete the property spaces. When I do this, the charts don't process this new information and I have to add new information every day. The solution I found is to always make a bunch of new lines without filling in the properties, make a graph of them, and fill them in as the days go by, this way, the graph processes the new information (in this case, the new information is just the entries I make in the properties of the lines already created) Thank you for your attention
Amazing video! I have one problem, in Rows I'm doing a sort filter to sort my database rows but every day that the data retrieved from Notion is updated, the sort filter sets to default and it's not what I want. I would like to save the sort filter for the table during all time. Do you know any solution to it? Thanks!!
Thanks for your video but I'd like to check whether I understood it well or not. how I understood from your video is ,If I change something in the table on Rows, I need to fix the number on notion which is not automatic. is that correct? [7:35] you showed changing numbers on Rows and the graph embedded on notion is updated automatically but didn't show whether the number in the table on notion has changed or not
Yes exactly - it’s a one way sync from Notion to Rows, so you need to update and modify the data in Notion What I showed on screen was just to demonstrate that any changes to the (existing) data immediately translates into a changed chart ☺️ So the order would be a) data updates in Notion b) refresh pulls new data into rows c) chart reflects new data
@@mfreihaendig when i insert new data on notion and update in rows table the new data always in the row 1 of the table not comfortable with this instead if the new data is added to bottom of the rows of table
Hi Matthias great job! One question:Afters inserting data from Notion, I put a formula in the last row in Rows for transforming True, False into percentage but when I refresh the data this formula and row data disappears. Is there a way to lock it? I tried with "freeze one row" but it didn't work.
Do you add it as a row or as a column? Columns should stay - rows will disappear after reloading data but you could simply use a separate table and reference the Notion one to keep the calculations after a refresh 💪🏻
Cool tool, very sad that it doesn't support dark mode which makes it completely useless for my usecase :( Gonna keep track of it, hope it will be implemented at some point.
@@mfreihaendig I'm stuck with the same problem. Rows ignores filters made on its own side too when making charts . I hope they will do something about that. Or is there a workaround?
thank you so much. Do we need to update the data from Rows for the chart to be updated? I tried updating data from Notion database but it doesn't automatically update in Rows unless you click the "Refresh Data Table" manually?
Yes you need to refresh the rows data, but you can do that automatically by scheduling a refresh 💪🏻 I show it in the video tutorial during the setup how to do that
Yes definitely! You can schedule a refresh in rows when you click on the settings for the imported data ☺️ that way, you can set a time to update the data based on any recent changes 💪🏻 And yey to keeping your job ☺️🔥
Any idea how can one retrieve more rows from the notion API? The notion API limits to 100 per request, with the next 100 are on the next API page that can be reached via cursor property but how can I for example get 200 rows instead of 100 and merge both results into the same rows table? Edit: Never mind, I was following your blogpost which seems to be outdated approach, the official integration via rows gives all data, thanks for the guides.
Hi Mathias, thank you so much for this! I was wondering if you know why I might be getting the error: "Failed to save your configuration. Please try again in later" every time I try to import the database? I don't think the problem is my database ID for its the right number of characters (32)
Make sure to open your database as a full page! Oftentimes, it’s actually an in-line database embedded in a page - so you copy the link to the page, not the actual database ☺️
H how can I create a chart, using my data from calendar? For example I would like to track on chart the amount of money spent during the days. Monday -> -$50, Tuesday -> -$20, etc. etc. Would like to write on calendar and below see the chart
A calendar is just a normal database shown visually, so you would follow the same process to pull the information into Rows, then create a pivot table for days of the week and then build a chart for it 😇
Hi, I think this is amaazinggggggg, thank you for your work I love all this new tools!!!! I have one question, How do I make it work if I have formulas and not numbers in the boxes?
One of my propertiy in notion database is a relation type, so when i integrate it in rows, it appears as an ID (random word like b1eaa57b...). Is there any way to make that "relation value" appear in rows?
Not yet unfortunately - you can use a separate formula property though that shows just the name of the related property and that should do the trick 💪🏻 Notion actually only stores the id in a relation and only renders it as a name, so this is a common issue with pretty much all integrations :-/
Hello Matthias, thanks for this great video again ! You are the best when it comes to Notion. I have a small issue because in my notion data base, I have a column with a relation and I want to be able to pull the value from the database. Currently rows pull the ID and not the value which is an issue. Do you have any ideas ? Thanks. I also have the same issue with formulas (it is empty in rows)
Ah yeah, that’s because on the Notion backend, it’s actually stored as the ID! Try using a rollup instead that shows the value you want - that might do the trick. Formula bug is already reported and should be resolved soon ☺️ once that’s the case, you can then also definitely show relation values by using a helper formula!
@@mfreihaendig hello, thanks for your quick answer ! Rows is down today for me, I can not use it. Are you sure they can pull value from roll up ? Another question : on Rows, is it possible to have a dynamic chart ? For instance we want to get the amount of sales for the last 6 months ? And we want the period of the last 6 months to increment of 1 day everyday so that the data in the chart keeps on displaying the amount of sales for the last 6 months. Thanks !
Unfortunately, this didn't work either. There are roll up objects in the JsonResponse, however, while trying to access them with a Data Table, the cell value becomes blank. It seems it is currently not possible :/
Great video, so thanks for that. However, does anyone know how to solve for the following disadvantages?: - Height is not responsive - Background is white only (so not looking good if your Notion is dark themed) - Lacking of charts (it only has basic charts but no cooler charts like spider chart etc)
Yeah those are unfortunate drawbacks at the moment - but it should soon be much better because Notion has announced native charts! They should hopefully drop in Q3 😇
I had the error with the functions and the Problem, that one collum with the select field is just a random looking ID. Right now it is not useful for me 😢
