I had an instructor telling me I was taking to long to go through my pre start and pre take off checks on a really busy ctaf airport and also a very quiet c taf airport I know the rules we always follow check lists I’ve ditched that instructor because I want to be taught properly I want to fly with my family in my aircraft

I'm an ATP with several thousand hours in turbine aircraft.I just bought a B-55. This guy is very thorough, even if he reminds me of Dustin Johnson the golfer. 😉

Flew an E55 for 27 years. Early on, I always dreaded hot starts on hot days. But once you get the technique down, it's no problem.

KCDC is still one of my all time favorite airfields. The surrounding area is so beautiful. Oh yeah, and go Thunderbirds!

I never understood why on the earlier model Barons, the throttle and prop controls were intermixed (prop where the throttle controls would normally be). I heard of one accident where the pilot on climb out, inadvertently pulled back the props on setting up for climb power instead of the throttles to start, and the aircraft subsequently lost power and crashed.

I believe the gear has a squat switch (weight on wheels) that will keep the gear motor from cycling if the gear handle is raised while the plane is on the ground.

And that squat switch will work right up util it doesn't. I hope that doesn't happen on your flight.

also if you forget to check the gear up position and it's down, when you take off it will retract immediately, the plane will descend one foot before taking altitude, and you'll have the fear of your life. don't ask why I know... I always check now (it had been accidentally put up by a passenger knee)
