I said it once before and I'll say it again, THIS was George Clooney's best role. And I truly believe Seth Gecko is one of the coolest characters in cinema, and all that is thanks to Clooney.
Seth never disliked the family, I believe he feels bad for having to drag them along. He actually grew to like them, and when he and Jacob had the toast “to your family,” Seth then had Jacob’s respect and more importantly he wasn’t going to kill them.
@@adon7521 EXACTLY. Seth is longing, maybe even desperate, for a father figure in his life and in that moment, Jacob became the person he had been searching for

"I didn't make a statement. I asked a question." Takes some stones to say something like that to a person like that. My personal head canon is that Jacob wasn't always a minister. He was a hard man, much like Seth. Maybe not a criminal, but definitely not a guy most people would f*ck with. Then his wife came along, and he buried that man. But that man wasn't dead, he was just waiting for the right time to come out. And this scene was it.

I have a feeling that the Gecko brothers never had a reliable or less than shit father figure in there lives. I really would have liked to see Jacob and Seth talk further. Not about God or religion, but about life. I think, this was the first step to a father son dynamic between the two of them. I'm glad you posted this scene and it's getting all the views it has. FDTD has a lot of action and gore but it also has amazing acting and story moments like this.
Seth is a criminal and not your classic anti heroe. But I like that he doesnt bullshit, isnt afraid to stick up for himself, has a code and tries to give his word. He"s not malicious for the sake of it. And he doesn't try to abuse his hostages (not like his sick brother).
Yes, because there are worse "bad guys and girls" . Richie dies before he can do much good, that's the script ...I like films where you find the original "bad" guys becoming "good" to some extent.
Um when do we EVER root for Richie? He never redeems himself at any point in the movie and makes it VERY clear if given the chance, he WILL and WANTS to rape Kate and it’s only because of Seth that it isn’t going to happen. Since I first saw this movie I always thought the role of Seth would've been more than perfect for a 95' Mickey Rourke. Tarantino always wanted to cast him since Pulp Fiction but those were Rourke's damned hollywood years, is such a damn shame they never got on the same movie.
