In accordance with NCTE Letter No. NCTE-GA029/2/2024-O/o DS(GA-II)-HQ dated 06.12.2024, Pragati College of Education, Siliguri, observed Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas with a week-long celebration under the theme “Language, Culture, and Us: A Regional Fiesta.” The program beautifully showcased the essence of India’s linguistic and cultural diversity, with an array of vibrant activities culminating in a day-long cultural extravaganza.
One of the week’s highlights was the language booths & the cultural celebration (held on the last day) meticulously designed by students. These booths transformed the campus into a vibrant showcase of India’s cultural and linguistic richness.
• South-East India: The Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andaman booths displayed Tamil literature, intricate kolam art, cuisine like idli and sambhar, and traditional attire such as silk sarees.
• South-West India: Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa came alive with Goan seafood, Marathi folk art, and Kannada culture.
• Coastal and Island Regions: Kerala, Lakshadweep, and Odisha booths featured Kathakali masks, coconut-based dishes, and the graceful Odissi dance.
• Eastern India: Bihar and Madhya Pradesh showcased Madhubani paintings, folk tales, and traditional dishes like litti-chokha.
• North-West India: Gujarat, Punjab, and Rajasthan dazzled with colorful phulkari embroidery, Rajasthani turbans, and Gujarati dandiya sticks.Each booth was an immersive experience, offering visitors insights into the regions’ cuisines, languages, attire, and cultural traditions.
The cultural program, a grand day-long event, was the highlight of the Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas celebrations. From morning to evening, the college resonated with vibrant performances and engaging presentations: PPT Presentations on - "Hamari Sanskriti Hamari Virasat": Students delivered engaging presentations showcasing India’s cultural and linguistic diversity. Group and Solo Dances: Performances ranged from Rajasthani Ghoomar to Tibetan dances, capturing the spirit of various regions. Songs in Multiple Languages: Students performed in Hindi, Bengali, Punjabi, Urdu, and Tamil, demonstrating the beauty of India’s linguistic harmony. Go As You Like (Swarup Roopantaran): Students depicted iconic personalities such as Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Shivaji Maharaj, and Rajinikanth, blending creativity with education.
The day concluded with an impromptu dance session, where students, danced their hearts out, celebrating their collective efforts. The atmosphere was charged with joy, camaraderie, and pride, reflecting the success of the event.
The Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas celebration left an indelible mark on all participants. It fostered an appreciation for India’s diverse linguistic and cultural heritage, instilled pride in regional identities, and underscored the importance of preserving these treasures.
