In each one of these video's , it is so clear to see the creativity that goes into each indian outfit and it is huge . The beading work alone is so unique, detailed as well as creative and beautiful indeed . That there is beautiful art work !!! You are showing just how beautiful the Indians and Africans people are and always have been. Youv are teaching another part of our history to us whom did not know.

As an outsider (from newfangled rival city Atlanta no less) these traditions are fascinating! Ive seen Ring Shouts from the Georgia Sea Islands performed live and a traditional Black American mystery play Heaven Bound which is performed every November at Big Bethel AME Downtown so I am a bit of a student of folklore. Mardi Gras Indians are like a treasure trove of folklore, an embarressment of riches! The secret coded languages and signals, the call and response and its rhythms, the histories shrouded in myth and legend, handed down in the oral tradition through family members, and written in the beautiful beadwork and feathers of the exquisite costumes! Though they may come from historically less fortunate and underserved and undervalued communities they are simultanesouly the royalty of the city, like a secret society with a deep and rich history that -in some crucial way- only they themselves and their kin and communities will ever really know or understand! Sorry I've been drinking and watching war in Eastern Europe on TV. Wish that instead of fighting, one day we could all just get dressed up real fly and strut around town with our crews, and if we came upon some rival crew or someone we didn't like, instead of fighting we just danced and sang and bragged and drank and partied and shook hands at the end!
