Refreshing Red Currant Drink to cool you down 💦 | Easy and Healthy Summer Recipe

  • In this video, I will show you how to prepare a refreshing and healthy red currant fruit drink. This drink is perfect for summer days and also retains vitamins and beneficial nutrients wonderfully.
    Ingredients:
    * Red currants - 500 g
    * Sugar - 5 tbsp or Stevia (sugar substitute) - 1 tsp (or to taste)
    * Boiled water (cooled to 60-70°C) - 2.5 liters
    Recipe:
    1. Pour the berries (fresh or frozen) into a pot and add sugar.
    2. Add a small amount of water to the berries and mash them (for example, with a potato masher).
    3. Add the rest of the water, stir, and taste.
    4. Let it steep for a few hours until completely cooled.
    5. Strain the drink through a sieve and serve.
    Storage and Benefits:
    1. Refrigeration:
    * The drink can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-5 days. Over time, the taste may change, and the vitamins will gradually decrease.
    2. Vitamin Preservation:
    * With this preparation method, some of the vitamins are preserved. Vitamin C, which is found in red currants, is partially destroyed when in contact with boiling water, but a significant portion still remains. Steeping in a cool place helps retain more vitamins than prolonged heating.
    3. Frozen or Fresh Berries:
    * A fruit drink made from frozen berries is just as beneficial as from fresh ones if they are properly frozen. Freezing preserves most of the vitamins, although some may be lost. The choice between frozen and fresh berries depends on availability and season.
    4. With or Without Stems:
    * It's better to use red currants without green stems, as they can give the drink a bitter taste. Moreover, berries without stems are easier to mash and strain.
    Recommendations:
    * If possible, use fresh berries in season.
    * Frozen berries are an excellent option out of season, as they retain most of their nutrients.
    * To maximize vitamin preservation, use boiled water cooled to approximately 60-70°C instead of boiling water.
    To know that the water has reached a temperature of 60-70°C without using a thermometer, turn off the heat after boiling the water and let it cool for 5-7 minutes. This time is usually sufficient for the temperature to drop to 60-70°C.
