One thing I can say is you can leave all the timing belt and front pully on the truck, just need to remove the big front nut and the 2 sides, injector lines, bottom mount, and all the plugs etc and she knocks straight out ready to go back in so you dont need to re time it it will already be timed by the key on the shaft
so I got mine up and starting, had to advance the manual pump all and fiddle the fuel screw. its just a temporary mock up till I get it tuned properly but she lives 🙌🏽
Used a 3l pump. What I did was filed the bolt holes in the pump to turn the top of the pump towards the engine. (Unsure if that's advanced or retard) I used the original 2L/3L cable holder/bracket thing for the accelerator to connect back. Wired in the tps from the 3l pump because my trans is still original. Looking into adding some more boost to compensate for the small power loss. But like I said in the other comment it's not that noticable. She works like a charm now , I have no regrets.
I used the original 3l timing marks. Turned the motor manually with a rachet to make sure the valves weren't touching the pistons and yea she started but terribly. After filing the holes for more adjustment she runs very nicely now.

I'm just curious, how did you keep the rpm/tach in your stock gauge cluster running? I also did this mech pump swap in my Surf (LN130), and its running smoothly, but my tach is no longer working since it uses the signal coming from the electronic injection pump, any leads or advice would be of great help. Thanks so much! =)
Got myself a LJ78 that i will start doing the swap, bought a donor car, toyota 4runner with 1kzt engine, both cars are manual. soon will start doing it! 😎

hey bro did u get ur 1kz started?. I think u have the timing wrong... 3l pump timing is different to the 1 1kzte timing. u need to put the timing to the original 3L marking . not the 1kz.
The accelerator pedal? If you could get the original 2l bracket it'll be easy. It's a swing thing with a rod attaching to the pump and the cable attaches on top.

Used to replace heaps of those contacts on them denso starters try just buff them up on a wire wheel used to work for a cheap fix
