- In a big step towards achieving self-sufficiency in defence capabilities, the Indian Navy has proposed the construction of a third aircraft carrier. The topic is up for discussion within the Indian Defence Ministry but analysts say that a third carrier will greatly bolster India’s defence as the China threat looms in the Indian Ocean region.

Bro , aircraft careers come with a whole package of AIRCTAFTs like Helicopters, fighter jets , destroyers, frigates , other warships proper satellite support, submarine fleet. So to make 5 aircraft careers we need to have all these items as well . We can aim for 5 of these in next 20-25 years but not now.

INS Vikramaditya is almost 35 years old. Within next decade it is supposed to be decommissioned. So the Navy is planning planning on appropriate time to replace the aging carrier as it had taken nearly a decade to built the previous one. On the other hand the Air force is lagging behind on replacing the aging squadrons.
It won't be retired but will go for maintainance as it's still one of the best in the world.
INS Vikrant was way outclassed so it was retired
Also not to mention, our airforce's average age is 32.5 years ,

US - 29.5 and 34 for active personnels

This is long required and will be great but here very soon means another 10years if fast tracked because it's a complex machinary that takes time to build, test, add missiles, weapons, buy naval aircrafts for it, and build other type of ships that will join the carrier group to make a flotilla.
If we can get it in 5-7years, it will be super quick.
As with manufacturing any heavy, large equipment, making aircraft carriers will enrich skills at home in Bharath. But it is important to give enough time for planning, making and checking the ship so that it is well made to last, to serve well.
