I just found your channel today and I LOVE IT! Not only do you show some very cool and interesting comics (what we are really all here for), but the way you support comic shops, comic writers/artists, and also fellow creators is so amazing! I don't live that close to Hasbeen Comics, but I hope to make it up that way sometime and see this amazing store and hopefully pick up a handful (or more) of comics. Thanks for what you do and I look forward to watching your videos, old and new.
HA! I bought some books off QVC back in the day too! LOL Still have them: Superman 1 (1987) signed by Terry Austin, X-Men 304 signed by Scot Lobdell and Batman 497 signed by all 4 primary creators: writer Doug Moench, penciller Jim Aparo, inker Dick Giordano and cover artist Kelley Jones.
I love the Age of Apocalypse storyline. I have the 1st 2 issues of Astonishing X-Men and all 4 of Weapon X. Marvel, I thought, did a better job with mega crossovers than DC. I had the 1st issue of X-Caliber, but sold it a number of years ago.
Rick definitely has the type of shop I want to visit at some point. Awesome for you helping price his books with him and nice pickup with the Stan Lee signature!
Awesome you guys have a friendship Awesome you helped him and he has passion Awesome he gave you some gifts Awesome prices and funny guy in the other video haha. Awesome UA-cam too
“If you’re good at something don’t ever do it for free” something I live by. You know how to price comics you should certainly get “paid” for it with comics. Don’t listen to the people who have bad intentions by you helping out a store and getting things for it. Great video!
I've got a Guardians of the Galaxy #4 signed by Jim Valentino, a Classic X-Men #1 signed by Chris Claremont and Jim Starlin, and whichever Classic X-Men reprinted Uncanny 101 signed on the back cover by John Bolton. That one came as a bonus since it was bagged and boarded so the back cover wasn't visible and the shop hadn't priced it higher. Lucky lucky lucky!
Rick is a great seller. Reminds me of how shops and cons used to price books, approachable. I think we are so used to having to spend an arm and a leg that we get surprised when we see someone price accordingly. I feel like Rick would do super well in a small con.
I think a lot of it comes from stores trying to ensure they don’t leave anything on the table for flippers. They are less willing to maximize revenue and profit.
After watching your last video on this shop, I took a trip out there yesterday. I live about two hours away. After having some great conversations with Rick for about a half hour, who walks in?...Mike from Lunch Money Comics. I was not expecting to meet a celebrity. I then hung out for another hour talking to both you guys and listening to some amazing stories. I got some great deals on comics and toys. I had a blast and will definitely be making the trip out to this fantastic shop. Keep up the great work! It is very much appreciated.
Rick's shop is a place I want to visit, maybe next year if I manage to take trip to US! And oh boy, AOA, such a great and darker take on the X-men and basically everything, i love it and that X-Calibre run was fun.. Did a finnish video about AOA with collectors in Finland, could talk about it a long time 😊
QVC is still a thing. 😂 Though I don't think they don't have comic based stuff anymore. I remember one time I saw an uncut collection of Marvel Universe '92. I wanted it really bad. It even came with the holograms. My dad couldn't afford it though. It's how I saw all the cards together were like a puzzle.
I had a hard time finding issues #3 and #4 in a lot of those Age of Apocalypse series. I think I got them all, now I got to go check! Awsome Stan Lee find for a great price. So fun when you find a cool surprise digging in comics!❤
My mom used to watch QVC all the time. Fenton art glass shows. If i had seen that on QVC I would have had my mom get one haha. You helped him out and in return he hooked you up. That's what good ppl do. Thanks for sharing your journey
QVC, wow that brings back memories. Oh, and AoA was the first X-Men I ever bought, back in the 80s I was into Spidey and Avengers, but never the X-Men. Just like the Death of Superman and Knightfall, AoA was announced in the news here in London and to me it was a big thing. So I bought the first issue and over the years, I collected the whole set including the ti in books. Great video. Love it.
Fun fact: Marvel never intended to make Nightcrawler the son of Mystique outside of the Age of Apocalypse. It was just supposed to be a fan teasing twist in a twisted universe, done in four months and then forgotten. It was only when fans pointed out to them that Nightcrawler was 35, and the AoA bifurcated 20 years in the past, that they realised they had written themselves into a corner. And so it became canon.
Mike now that x-men book will be sought after and key collector will have it on there daily updates lol believe it or not you're influence is changing how people buy comics. Love to meet u one day.
Nice vid Mike. I wanted to tell you check that X-Men #1 for bo Jackson insert. I think it might have it. It's like a mark jewelers, a little bit more scarce
QVC was great. I bought a Batman number 492, signed by Norm Breyfogle from there. I found it the other day while going through some of my old comic book boxes.
Comics in my collection that has signatures are: Neil Gaiman, Leinil Yu, Artgerm, Peach Momoko, Whilce Portacio, David Nakayama, Mark Millar, Brian Michael Bendis, David Finch! I would love to hunt and own and George Perez, John Romita Sr. and Jr., Jim Lee and Todd MacFarlane signature someday. Todd MacFarlance really has a good looking signature especially on Spider-man number 1!
That X-Men signed by Stan Lee is quite nice. I have a few things that were sold on the Home Shopping Network back in the 90s, but most of it is sports related. To find a comic book with significance seems to be very rare. I understand that there are copies on eBay, but how many are there?.
You have become my new favorite person for comic buyers, I love your personality and your knowledge of comics, and the fact you care about others, plus you are close to me and I can check out these places as soon as I get a set of wheels. Hey Mike, I got one for you, in what issue did Stan Lee first come up with the concept of super-powered mutants? Check out Amazing Detective Cases #11, and Atlas era book, story title “The Weird Woman” written by Stan Lee and drawn by Joe Sinnott. In my mind this little known gem settles the debate as to whether Kirby or Lee invented super powered mutants. Love the show! Cheers!
That X-Men#1 signed by Stan Lee,was one of Joe's books I saw on one of his UA-cam videos a few months ago it's strange how books move around a lot,I will find that video and message it too you so you can watch it.
Regarding X-Men #4, all everyone keeps talking about is the first appearance of Omega Red. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that also the first time that Rogue agreed to go on a date with Gambit? (which makes it way more important to me) As always I have fun watching your videos :0)
That 96 series in Xcalibre, I think, no I know I missed this, dang, Sounds great $ 50. 00 Wow,, YOU NEED TO GET SOME D.C. ON THAT WALL, MIKE, YOU HAVE A FANTASTIC MARVEL COLLECTION BUT WHERE ARE THE D.C.????!!! NO YOU COLLECT WHAT YOU LOVE, I LOVE MARVEL AS MUCH AS D.C. YOUR CHANNEL IS FANTASTIC!!! When they changed to those ugly digital covers somewhere after or around uncanny xmen 300 I stopped buying alot of titles. To this day I can't pay good money for books with such brutal cover art and I'm a reader, its what's inside that's the most important to me but I just can't pull the trigger on those terrible covers of the late 90s or whenever it was. I've read what I could in collected volumes etc instead and I'm lucky my local library probably has ever growing graphic novel and collected editions section.
My dad and I always watch your videos and we went to one of the stores you recommended because you said the prices are cheap and the owner's kind. We were disappointed. The prices were not cheap and the owner was there, but he wasn't kind at all. But maybe we were just unlucky and the guy was just having a bad day. Anyway, the lesson I learned is not to take what you say on face value. Maybe they are just kind to you and give you discounts but not to others because you're a UA-camr and they're on camera. And in turn to giving you a discount and gifts, you butter them up and say good things about their business on your channel. That's completely understandable. I should have known before travelling to Massachusetts and expecting it's a haven for cheap comics, so I don't blame you.
Truthfully, here in New England local comic shops are either a hit or miss. I went to some stores that Mike said had an "awesome shop owner" but in reality that isnt the case. I visited at least 6 comic shops Mike recommended in this channel, 4 where indeed awesome but 3 had really bad customer service. One "friend" of Mike's who doesnt own an LCS but has a comic business and does events (clue: his YT name is five words) pressured me into buying more comics and when i said I was only looking for one specific issue, he got angry and really pressured me to buying more. Another comic shop that Mike promoted in one of his videos threw a fit when I gave him money but he doesn't have enough change on his cashier. He asked if I had a smaller bill but I didnt have smaller bills so he threw a fit and complained. But on camera when Mike was filming him he was an angel. lol
Not sure why you thought the 1st reaper was high grade. I could easily see from the little video you showed of it, that it had multiple tears on the cover alone. I'd say it's likely closer to low grade. And just from the little I saw with the Batman 232, also not high grade, maybe mid grade. It had color breaking stress marks all along the spine and I thought I saw some color breaking creasing running down the spine.
In regards to the Reaper I guess I misspoke, I said “sharp copy” (which it was, it looked nice) and my brain was probably thinking about the next book. This is what happens when you do the voiceover a week after you film. As for the Ra’s I guess it comes down to your definition of high grade, I thought it was pretty nice.

Mike, QVC is still around! My Mom is a big fan to this day. She prefers buying there than through the internet.
I love the story that goes with Rik’s signed X-Men book. QVC… that’s a new one for me. Congrats Mike
Love the X-Calibre story. Sounds like you had a blast supporting a new LCS. Thanks for sharing!

I am heading there this upcoming week, that first video you made hooked me!
My full Pitt run is the gem of my collection. With all the crossover titles and the Malibu Sun 1st appearance.

I wonder what he paid for that Stan Lee signed book in 1991 lol. So cool! Also the placement of that sig is absolutely perfect.
I just realized I don’t have a Stan Lee signature sign book. Well now that’s on my comic bucket list.

Very cool Haul, a dove the story.
Mike. I too am a collector who has yet to have a “Stan Lee” sig book. lol. It happens
I am in that unfortunate club too! As we say about many things in this hobby... one day!
I thought I had a Stan Lee Sig on a Bronze age ASM book, but CBCS found out it's fake. :-(
A friend of mine had the same happen with an online shopping network with a DC book from the same era. The artist's wife was ghost signing.
My parents bought me a Ravage 2099 #1 signed by Stan Lee from QVC! Wish I still had that.
