As a 20 year old I shot my first F-Class match at a small County-owned rifle range in Bellingham, WA. There were about 15 shooters that day and I got paired up with Shiraz. I'll never forget how kind, helpful and genuinely encouraging he was to me; really great guy. Glad to see him still competing and in one of your videos.
Nice work. Glad to see the shooter's attitudes are pretty much the same across disciplines, whether they're having a smoking day or a not so good day. I am really glad y'all were able to have your Nationals...wish our hadn't been cancelled due to the 'Rona. I'm a little mad at myself for not making the drive over to PHX to watch.
That's so cool that you were hanging out with Shiraz, I bought one of his mills a couple years ago, gonna buy a bigger one soon and a newer lathe than the 1000 year old south bend I have now
Erik, Thank you for the videos and the information, it's awesome to get your insight and I have grown rapidly as a shooter/reloading since discovering your channel!
Man... so much has changed at Ben Avery since the last time I was there. That had to be somewhere in the late 80s early 90s. I was just a kids at the time, and I think the gongs way up on the hill were pretty much the longest shots to be had at the ranges in the Valley.
Thanks for sharing this video with all of us viewers considering you have so many more important things to be concentrating on . It looked tough out there with the wind blowing.
I can’t imagine shooting that wind on an unprotected range. Even Shiraz was complaining. A match should come down to wind calling however. It levels the field. Thanks for sharing and best of luck on day 2.
Erik, it's kind of a small world. Shiraz knows Gary Rasmussen, Gary was (Maybe still is) a local up here in Washington, and back in the day, Gary was the star shooter, him, and a guy named Bud Solaz as they were the lead guys in the Match Rifle category. I was shooting service rifle, however, Gary was a real supporter of High Power and he supported many people with coaching and sharing his experience, I shot next to him during the state championships, I almost tied him with my M-1A in standing with a score of 196-14X, He shook my hand and said "Nice piece of work". He would get everyone together at a beginning of a match and offer to get drop shipments of projectiles in the amount of 10,000 plus at a reduced cost. It's nice that we have people like Gary, Shiraz, and You. -Dave
Good info on pit management. Good group of guy's ! Sorry your partner went home I understand the frustration. Stay positive and enjoy the friendships if nothing else. At least there will not be any ice on the way home - lol
In these matches where wind is a serious issue, do you or other shooters change rifles, calibers, or ammunition (velocity) to compensate, or do you rely upon changes to your scope settings alone?
Is there a reason why we couldn't see actual shooting and actual target pulling? You said after you pull these 2 you are done . Not understanding what you meant. Enjoying your videos. Good luck tomorrow.
Because I was either shooting or pulling. I can’t film during those times because I need to focus on what I’m doing. I’ll try and set up a GoPro ahead of time next time.
@thund3rb1rd78 The small disk indicates where the bullet hit the target. The large red or fluorescent disk indicates the shot value. Center left is a 7, bottom left is an 8, bottom center is a 9, bottom right is a 10, center right is an X.
2 things. That would be so cool to be in the pits, my wife's father told me a story his dad told him about when he was in the navy, the guy in the pits held up some kind of object to tell whether u hit or not and my wife's grandpa apparently shot that thing when the guy in the pits raised it up lol probably getting in alot of trouble or narrowly escaping it lol idk if it's true but this ol timer always has some cool stories I always thought it would be cool to be in there. And number two, r those "holes" in the berm from all the bullets over time?

Really enjoy the behind the scenes perspective. I have been watching FClass John's videos as well. Looks like a lot of fun!
Love the vids Eric keep them coming and have a great shoot.
A bad day on the range is better then a good day off the range

Keep the videos coming, I've learned a ton from your vblogs.... Bad days are learning days, one can never stop learning....

Great video! This gave me flash backs to my Marine Corps days at the rifle range. LOL
same in the army 1000yrds iron sights double sillowets,m60
I get most of my gear from Lester... He is a good guy, builds good guns, and has a nice family that help him in the shop. Good people!
Thks enjoyed watching this
Thanks Eric loved it! It almost like being there!😁
Man I'd love to try that range out... great vid 👌
Such a great video!
Good ol Bruno! I buy from his reloading shop all the time. His son Jason usually helps me out.
Yes I do remember those day shooting High power military match’s
Tomorrow is a whole 'nuther day, all the best to you.

i have no idea what is going on....but it is cool! Thanks for the video!
I noticed two of my club members Skip and Greg Barkley received gold metals in F-TR class.
I don't want to give any spoiler alerts, but I hear you did pretty good.
Awesome Video Erik, What is Shiraz shooting these days? I know he used to shoot a 300 wsm.
Great banter about scores :)
Good video and information very interesting and enjoyable. thanks for sharing.
Hey, you are there. Many aren't.
I was shooting at the main public range 8 yrs ago when a balloon landed on the 100 yd line, kinda ruins the day, they can be a pain this time of year
In the marine corp we call those the butts
@@Griffo34 👍👍
im cabinetmaker/trim carpenter love grizzly machines.
Ask Shiraz about rattle snake range in tri cities Washington, the wind will humble you real quick
Lester Bruno, he made my last 284 win barrel.. ;)
What was the wind blowing at? Was it constant? That is amazing shooting with that environment. I would be happy to find the target.
Around 15-20
Not constant at all.
I watched the 6 hour video then the day ago and the 2 day ago in a row
My goal is one day to have a shoot with Eric Cortina

Scope settings only.

This is what it's like pulling targets. This was at 200 yards. ua-cam.com/video/bIsL_Ct8Qig/v-deo.html

Why on earth would anyone mess up pit service.?
Bc some ppl r lazy assholes lol
Are the balloons bonus points?
😂
I miss bullets.com
Can’t be thinking you had a bad day when everyone had a bad day! It was just a rough day!
Maybe I should rethink a foray into F class. 🙂
You will never know unless you try! Don’t leave any regrets you didn’t do something in life

Yes. Lots of shots
@@ErikCortina wow that's insane, thousands and thousands of shots to dig those holes.
Id love to mine those backstops.
Erik where do you do your final seating at the range or at the hotel so to speak?
Hotel
FClass John was saying the same thing as you and then in his third video he showed three medals.
Is the Balloon the tie breaker target?
Maybe. 😂
How much did you dial in for wind?
2 MOA and held the rest. Between 4.5 and 6 MOA
Good luck
