Andrew, you have a knack for finding down-to-earth folks who just seem interested in getting stuff done. The amount of knowledge I've gained from your channel is insane. Thanks for putting this stuff out! Looking forward to Brian adding more content to his Instagram. 😏

Cool to see Acustica get a shoutout here. The reason their stuff is so CPU heavy is that it's not an analog emulation, it a convolution-based system. They literally take the hardware and make a huge library of impulse responses on all different settings, so when you send a signal through it, it's not just EMULATING that hardware, it's literally giving you exactly what that hardware did when they sampled it. It's the same concept as IR loaders or convolution reverbs.

Love RME gear! I traded my Apollo/UAD gear in for RME a few months back. Very happy with it. I also use Canopener and Rogue Amoeba software (in my case, Audio Hijack) to funnel all system audio through the software correction chain. Simple and it all works well. Wish I had those headphones though. I’m using Beyer DT1990 and have a small EQ correction curve as part of the chain too.

Just amazing! I've been building/working with a somewhat similar portable setup (Mac Mini M1, Motu M2, HD280 headphones, keyboard and mouse, portable display) and I love it. I even use can opener and soundID, but now will try Mid Side and SoundSource too! This was so relatable to me, hope we can see more from these setups!

Brilliant video Andrew, thanks so much. I got a bit of a surprise watching this as I am sitting here with a pair of LCD-X plugged into a Groove using SoundID through Can Opener - made me feel reassured !! One thing I was surprised at was that Brian is using the Wired Average profile from SoundID for the headphones - if he wants to squeeze the last drop of quality I could recommend he gets Sonorworks, who make SoundID, to create him a custom profile just for his personal headphones - I have that, and there is definitely an improved difference to using the average profile.

Love the idea of a small compact " shake ´n´bake" studio in a carry on suitcase to lug into the boot of your car along with an old beat up guitar, a short scale bass, a few midi controllers and a synth plug-in pack and a good drum library pack ( The Andrew Masters Drum Pack anyone? ) and off you are to the cottage to write winter songs in front of a red hot firewood stove in the blizzard.
Jack Daniels, Highland Park Single Malt, Tullamore etc... would probaly have to track along...... :)
Merry youletide to you and your familiy,- see you in the new year.

RME is simply amazing. He *kinda touched on it, but you can EQ your cans inside the RME and do a bunch of DSP as well as changing anti aliasing filters and such. Im a major RME fanboy.

I use to use Can Opener as well until I discovered that the RME ADI 2 pro fs has built in crossover to choose from so it didn't make sense to use Can Opener anymore when I have it internally. Im guessing RMEs crossover is in the unit is better. I was hoping to find a way to load in an eq correction for my headphones to replace Sound ID Reference since the RME also has built in DSP for eq as well but It doesn't fine tune as much. But i can make those small adjustments from the unit like you did with your custom curve. Definitly interested in more tips like this, this is almost identical to my mobile set up i use. I follow in the footstep of Glen Schick who masters exclusive in the box and in headphones as well. I love finding this type of content, not a lot of it out there, thank you.

You need an eGPU to run anything doing slightly intensive work on those 2018 Intel Mac Mini's. I haven't watched the whole thing but that was my experience, also I just moved everything to M1 Apple Silicon and almost everything is available and runs like a dream... Best of luck on your endeavours! 😇

Yea i use Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250 ohm (open backed) with a usb powered scarlet focusrite 3rd gen solo and the low ends are really lacking so i keep adding way too much bass lol. volume in general is lacking especially with ''direct monitor'' enabled. i definitely need a better interface and probably some different headphones as well, at least some closed backed 80 ohm's so i can go back and forth. I wish people would stop recommending the focusrite's just because they're cheap, i guess ill hold on to them because usb powered is still easy on the go but i will have to buy another one so the fact that the focusrite is so cheap is not saving me any money...

I like the approach. I've been toying with something similar for the last few years and gotten to the point that I could work without my speakers & room with no problem. If I have a criticism, it's that PT really feels inappropriate for mastering as opposed to Sequoia/Samplitude or Wavelab that can actually do the whole job instead of just the audio processing...and after demoing a few pairs, I actively hate Audeze headphones. Their house sound is not at all what I want to hear. But, to each their own.

Headphones provide a false center/middle. Don't rely on that 'image' or placement. Reference is fine, but critical moves should be done on 3way nearfields, ideally.
