Lake Alice: Exploring Mt. Kenya's Largest & Least Known Lake with Kids

- In 2021, we visited Lake Rutundu, which is one of the 25+ lakes on Mt. Kenya and is one of the biggest 4 lakes on the mountain. The other 3 of the big 4 are Lake Alice, Lake Michaelson and Lake Ellis.
At that time, we didn’t manage to visit Lake Alice which sits on Mt. Ithanguni, a mini-mountain that is high above Lake Rutundu. Because Mt. Ithanguni (where Lake Alice is located) towers above Lake Rutundu, making it very visible from Rutundu, it felt like it was taunting us and at the same time inviting us to visit it and check out its secrets.
We swore to come back and visit Lake Alice and be done with it.
This is our story of hiking up to Lake Alice and Lake Rutundu.
Fun Facts:
(a) Lake Rutundu and its Rutundu Log Cabins are famous for Kate Middleton’s proposal by Prince William, the second in line to the throne of Britain.
(b) A mythical lion called Marozi or spotted lion (a hybrid of leopard and lion, said to be now extinct), was claimed to have lived in the area around Lake Alice and had adapted to existence in the mountains rather than in the savannah, like other lions.

Lake Ellis 😍😍😍 we camped there before we summited in 2019. Breathtaking! Some of the best moments of my life 🙏🏾
Rutto and Ruto at 5:32. All in all its an awesome adventure.
When I did Lake Alice early last year,we walked from the gate, through the bamboo forest up to the lake. Part of our group got lost and found themselves at lake Rutundu while the rest of us found ourselves at lake Alice. We walked the entire day to and fro. At some point we had to get bodas after it got dark while in the forest.

So you say in a “colonial” language that clearly you don’t mind keeping, as you carry a “colonial” name. Don’t get me started with the hypocritical double standards 🙄
Some of this videos we were learning from school waaah 844 was the best maze
🙏🏼👊🏼
Kenya is amazing!
What is this about Pajeros that we don't know, I really fear them but I can see you guys use them alot
They are awesome 4x4s. This is our 3rd. It has had alternator issues before and only on that trip. Its not a common issue. Its because we are making it work harder due to the very many gadgets and power consuming appliances. So diodes keep burning out. A 250Amp high output alternator would be nice but there is none for diesel engines only petrol engines. The one on the car is 125Amp. Sufficient for most people but not us.
💕
as a nanyukian having not been up mt kenya ever. im jelous. great trip nevertheless
Its always like that. We never know the secrets that our backyard has.
😂🙏🏼🙏🏼👊🏼
Iam shocked iam in Kenya never hard this lake rutundu & lake Alice kwani Kenya gani?😮😮
Kenya is full of surprises, even for us locals! 😄🇰🇪
Lake Ellis

On the way to Thompsons Fall = equator crossing
Yeah man! And thank you so much for watching and subscribing! 🙏🏽🙏🏽
❤🎉
kumbe this alternator thing it has been a nagging thing
What do you guys do for a living ? I mean I'd want such a life to afford the travels
That hiking is what they do for a living
Seems this pajeros have a problem with over heating
That was an alternator problem, not overheating. Age and heavy modification will make make any 4x4 a bit unreliable. In this instance, the Pajero has been heavily modified outside its factory condition thereby putting many demands on the alternator and making the diodes overwork which will make them break dwn. A factory alternator generates 120 amps of power, but if you have alot of electrical items that were not originally in the car, then the alternator will be overworked and will fail. A solution is to upgrade to a higher output alternator that churns about 225 to 250 amps, almost double that of factory alternator. This is a whole discussion that needs an entire video to explain to guys. Thank you for watching Tony.
Aty 40something lakes
Wow this is nice, would like to join the next trip, do you have a number I can call maybe for planning?, Thanks
Amazing
