Glad to see they used the Sport platform to build the new commander. I’m 6’4 and have rode all day with great comfort in my Sport. Launched on day one with tons of awesome accessories ready to go! Better seating position and layout than the polaris by far. These will sell like crazy. Will definitely be my next machine👍🏻
I really appreciate this video as I am awaiting delivery of my commander 1000R dps in about 2 weeks. I chose the dps because width is 62 inches and in my area we have some tight trails that will take you to some beautiful places. And I can add what I want instead of just what comes with it. Thankyou for this great video. I really enjoy it!
I absolutely love my new commander it is 100% better then the old one and the XT suspension is the best factory suspension I have ever ridden in so glad I waited for this over buying other brands. Good review
Jeff H. , I’m thinking of getting the new commander, but wonder what you think of the new commander XMR and if you could have, would you have bought that one? I just wanna make sure I’m buying the right one.
Awesome video! I'm thinking of getting one of these units seems like can am did a good job with this one. As a casual trail rider and more of a touring rider I think this will be a perfect fit
I'm disappointed they didn't use a new platform that was wider inside, like the original. This is based off the Maverick so it's only 50" wide for the body, which is much narrower than the General or RMAX. It's odd because the General and RMAX were basically made to compete with the original Commander. Obviously they used the Maverick platform to save money but I think many original Commander owners will look else where for replacement machines. They will probably get new customers from Polaris RZR owners looking for a dump box that are used to the smaller cab.
As an actually “old “canam commander Xt ÖwnëR I’m pretty disappointed also specially looking at the width of the interior . It looks so cramped and uncomfortable. The older model gives you at least the sense of being in a regular pickup truck . This .....this says hey bro you’re on an ATV everywhere. Still after all of those things I would never change to another brand . CanAm is the way to go . Always .
@@overlandperu6084 I love Can Am but I think I will look at the RMAX when the time comes to trade my current machine in. Or maybe see if I can find a used one like mine with very little miles on it.
I'm still waiting on Polaris to get the General XP trim to make up my mind. Very hard to get specific models for review in Canada but it will happen, patience! All three have specific points that I enjoy. Commander: Sharp steering with best feedback + best entry level suspension by a good margin + excellent tires, best handling of the bunch. Finally a silent drivetrain! YAY! RMAX: Best engine in class, best all rounder (XTR trim) Best CVT by a mile. General (Premium trim 2018 ): Best seats, best cabin, most comfort offered for big and tall guys like me. Excellent powerplant. It just does everything well and that is a very rare occurrence in the UTV market. It's a tossup, You can't go wrong if you choose either or out of the three to be honest, I like 'em all.
@@ethanmunger3374 The engine is the good 'ole 1000cc Vtwin that's been around since 2011. I just don't care for the lazy throttle mapping for the rest hey, it's a Rotax, tough as nails, good on power and torque. I'm a Can-Am "guy" and always enjoyed that mill. In this tossup the Yamaha is more "lit" and the General makes more power instantly.
I have a question do u use turf mode in the woods and hard road or the differential lock and do u have to be in 4x4 to use the rear differential lock or can u use 2x2 with rear differential lock riding the road and woods
Thanks for sharing. Too bad Can-Am wanted to keep the same platform as the Maverick Trail and Sport. The cabin is not using the full width of the vehicle like the Yamaha RMAX or Polaris Range which offers a lot more cabin space as well as complete hard cabin for winter. I’m currently a 2018 Maverick Trail 1000DPS owner that is equipped with the full cabin with soft doors and looking at alternatives with hard doors and the Defender is too much a “tractor” for trail riding.
You have options... Like you, one of our friends has a Maverick Trail and he felt cramped in it and could not take the trade in loss. We swapped the doors from a Maverick Sport and he now enjoys his Maverick. It's a little unfair to compare the Maverick Trail to an RMAX or General either eh? Different... much different platforms and much pricier. I hope you can enjoy you Maverick Trail Sir, as it is simply the best 50 inch UTV around bar none.
^This! I was hoping for a completely new Commander platform that was bigger inside - full width, as you said. Just like the Maverick Sport, look at the mud thrown up and in the cab. A wider body would have also kept the tires inside the wheelwells and eliminated this. I wanted a new Can-Am, but IMO, a General XP or RMAX 1000 better fulfills my wants for this class. I am also hoping for a factory cab option crossover machine; I wonder who will be the first to market with one?
Yeah, I get you on that. Same thing on certain car and specially trucks right now. A local dealer was selling a RAM TRX 15K over retail and it sold. Not all dealers do that though and in certain Canadian provinces it is illegal to do so if I remember correctly. Just remember when it's time you spend your money and go elsewhere.
@@kifferpete7987 In all fairness and to my knowledge of the Maverick Xxc. Unless you are really gonna ride the wheels of it all the time, the Xtp package is a hard sell because the XT pack is just so freaking good... Never before did a Can-Am with BASIC non adjustable shocks worked this good for me, in fact, great. Save some dough for upgrades and accessories and get the XT for trail use. from easy going to pusjing it pretty had it will do. If you really want a better suspension, the XTP with the Fox QS3 shocks and the 30 inch tires will make a difference. The question you need to ask yourself is: Do I REALLY need it? Cauz yeah the XT's suspension and steering is just that good man.
The conditions as you probably saw we're not the best for really cool action shots and the area where we were is a no fly zone. Jason and I are not professional camera guys either. I promise we will do our best to bring you better shots in the future. At least having three gopro shots is better than one I think. But, always room for improvement. Thanks for watching and commenting, it makes us wat to do better in the future. - Marc
I had a sport for a year, not an Xxc. They are all the same inside. I don't remember that tight leg room. I remember it was a little cramped but not being an issue. I still remember the comfort of my 2 original Commanders... I was spoiled... :)
Nahhh it's actually a pretty nice place to be considering the insane amount of mud we went through that day. We got hit only by muddy water going through large puddles before shooting. With cameras you need to tone it down a notch when going through water or youll be winping lenses every minute.
The Maverick Sport does the same thing. I know of several people who got rid of them because of it. I think this new Commander being 64" will be as bad or worse.
We are two "big guys" so yeah it's pretty close but did not impede comfort and we do not bump into each other. It's a tradeoff for a more compact body that rubs less on trees and stuff when going down narrower trails. It's the most compact in the category now. Is it important? nah, do I like it? well I would have loved and extra 6 inches space and a wider center console with decent storage but that's what it is. I still love the new commander as it's leaps and bounds better than the gen 1 in my opinion

How does zforce 800 trail gen2 compare in ride quality to the commander. I'm looking at buying one of these 2
Great video!
Very great video, thank's for ride video and your explication.
64 inch wide ATV's are no problem on your trails? I know some places are limited to 50 inches
Where are these guys from? Sounds like the upper peninsula of Michigan. And looks like it yoo
Good Job Guys
Interested to see a review of the XT-P
I only wish I could get one.
