  • The 1994 MX-5 Miata was a major model update of the original MX-5 Miata. Its most notable change was the introduction of a bigger engine with increased power and torque. 1994 also marked the debut of the R Package, which added a series of factory performance parts and removed several comfort features to save weight.[2]
Although the 1994 MX-5 has gained 120 lb (54 kg) in weight when compared to the 1990 MX-5, it was revised with a stiffened chassis that improves the car's torsional rigidity by 10%. This was implemented by complementing its updated rear subframe brace from the 1992 model with a front subframe brace and cockpit brace that connects both seatbelt towers. As its predecessor was prone to brake fade, the 1994 MX-5 also received larger brake discs.[2]
The 1.8 liter engine produces 128 hp (95 kW) at 6500 rpm and 110 ft·lb (149 N·m) at 5000 rpm. Its 7000 rpm redline remained unchanged,[3] although it can rev higher than 7600 rpm in Forza Motorsport 7. The 1994 MX-5 reuses the five-speed manual transmission from its predecessor, but was also the first MX-5 with an optional Torsen limited-slip differential.
The NA MX-5 continued production until 1997, and was replaced in 1999 by the NB MX-5.
