I've always liked to imagine it as it taking place 2 years after escaping the metro, 8 having known 3 on a more personal level, improving battle style and working on mental health to the point where she deems herself worthy to revisit those once traumatic memories. The battle arena seems to include features of both 3 and 8, their pasts, even down to 3's ink colour being orange and the link both have with the calamari inkantation. Small details in the room point to things 8 had learned to love about inkling S O C I E T Y over the past 2 years, and since the metro breaks space and time apparently, the place could be more real than just imagination, although I'd see the toothpick as something left by 3 beforehand, left for when 8 saw herself to be ready to take it. PTSD still makes IA3 too op tho
I thought it was obvious to everybody that it's in 8's head. The location is somewhere in the void, Calamari Incantation is playing (why would it play when 3's fighting just some random octoling?) and It's called INNER Agent 3. I doubt she's imagining it though, she's probably hallucinating Also, the names in other languages translate to: "The Agent 3 within the mind/heart. Surpass the hero within the mind!" "Imaginary adversary" "Phantom of Agent 003. Defeat the agent within yourself! "
Fun fact: if it's the first time you start the fight against inner agent 3 (not the very first just not dying and restarting) if you don't loose your armour the gear you wear is closer to the original octoling armor, not sure if this is a glitch or *L O R E*
My theory is that once you complete all levels in octo expansion, agent 3 leaves a gift, being the golden toothpick in agent 8's locker, when 8 goes to get it, she remembers the fight 2 years prior. And defeating inner agent 3 probably makes her feel worthy to take and wear the toothpick
Odd fact: in Japanese culture, gold ornaments were worn by women of high status, and were actually sometimes used as a marriage gift to the bride. If Three leaves the hair ornament (which he’s had time to get access to, seeing as he’s been places and met people, including the Octoling shogun, Octavio… maybe a deal that had something to do with Three wanting to take up the job of a DJ in the Octo Expansion art book?). So if you want to believe in this version, Three’s using this to congratulate her on her accomplishment for sure… but not only that, if your brain really wants to lean hard into the agent 24 ship… there we go, feed that imagination all you want. Shhh, I never said anything… this is all a dream…

Since you have to "beat your inner hero", what if the fight is symbolic and Agent 3 is the image of the obstacle to beat to get over with getting back 8's memories?
at this point you are making me question if funky squid game was even real in the first place or just an anomaly caused by nogami trying so hard to bend into the shape of the number three that the man bent reality itself.
Adding on to your theory about the taking place inside agent 8's mind: Agent 8 remembers her lost memories through the help of mem cakes. After collecting all 80 of them, you see the message that reads: "Your memories of that day, 2 years ago have returned. Now, prepare to ride those squidtastic grooves once again..." and this was after collecting all 80 mem cakes, so 8 must have her memory back now. Literally, Agent 8 remembers that she has been defeated by Agent 3 2 years ago as an octoling controlled by DJ Octavio's hypno-goggles, and is now determined to beat her with another try. Theory 1: This battle represents the struggle for Agent 8 to accept what she has done during being brainwashed in the past, and her past deeds are resembled by none other than Agent 3. Looking from a very broad and wide perspective, we could say that the Inklings are the good people, and the octarians aren’t, as D.J Octavio stole the great zapfish twice from inkopolis. Agent 3 is what seems to be overpowered, as the ‘Good guy’ always ends up winning right? By beating Agent 3, she can accept the things she has done during her past, and move on to a fresh start. Theory 2: This battle resembles Agent 8’s fear for Agent 3. Agent 3 never liked octarians, and would splat them if they threatened inkopolis. Agent 8 was personally a octoling working for D.J Octavio in the past, explaining why Agent 3 doesn’t go easy on her. This explains why Agent 3 is so hard to defeat, and will splat Agent 8 easily. If Agent 8 beats Agent 3, she can overcome that fear, and escape from it. Combining both of these: Agent 8 is struggling to accept her past deeds, resembled by none other than Agent 3. The battle resembles Agent 8’s fear for Agent 3, as 3 never liked octarians and seen them as a threat while protecting inkopolis. Beating this boss means Agent 8 can move on from her past, and escape the fear she has for inklings and Agent 3. Why is the boss so hard? Inner Agent 3’s boss fight makes you struggle the same way, as none other then the main character, Agent 8 does. This is a boss fight that shows the struggles of the main character, and as much as you, the player’s task being to defeat Agent 3 to acquire the golden toothpick, is actually struggling the same way as how Agent 8 is trying to overcome her fears and move on from past life. It’s like as if you’re in their shoes, feeling the same pain and frustration but determination to beat Agent 3, Agent 8 must have gotten hurt so many times, but she NEVER gave up. You, the player, is determined to prove yourself worthy, and by defeating Inner Agent 3, which can be classified a HACKER, will show how good of a player you actually are, having no regrets, showing that that endless amount of time you have spent in it, leaves you feeling accomplished, and that is the greatest joy of beating a boss, especially when you know you have put so much time and effort into it. Same goes to Agent 8 herself. Overcoming her greatest fear and finally stepping into the light, leaving her tragic past behind, with no regrets at all. Writer's note: This was a theory I've made when I was 13, so I apologize if some of it doesn't make sense or my english is sucky. Thank you for reading till the end :D
My thoughts: a battle between mindcontrolled agent 8 as rival octoling and agent 3 happened during the Splatoon 1 era, regardless of exactly when it happened. She lost and then she went to DJ octavio's concert and she got fred. Altough, there is a theory that states that the eerie noises after defeating a boss is just the sounds of the deep-sea metro's test subjects getting, well, smoothied. So agent 8 eventually fell, lost her memories, then gets them back with the mem cakes and she remembers about the fight with agent 3. She saw agent 3 in one of the final phases of Octo Expansion, and this time around, agent 3 was the bad guy and agent 8 is the good one. So her memory mixed the two fifths and created the inner agent 3 fight, which has details of the single fights (for example, the agent 8 outfit and agent 3 not being sanitizer/mindcontrolled). Well, that's what I think, I hope sploon 3 will help clear this mistery

2:29 In my eyes, the Inner agent 3 fight is before they got captured, but its a sort of fake or created memory. Agent 8 couldnt remember the outfit, so they had the deepsea metro one.
Wait a minute... if the fight occurred 2 years before Octo Expansion, does that mean 8, Cap and 3 went about 2 years in the Deepsea Metro before Cap and 8 met!?
Okay, now that this theory is out of the way, it's time for the real theory: WHO ATTACKED THEM!?!??!?!?! It couldn't have been tartar, he's a phone that is in the ground, so who was it? It wasn't Agent 3 or Cap'n cuttlefish, SO WHO WAS IT?!?!
Dude she's just remembering the original fight it's called inner agent 3 for a reason. The song? It would obviously be in her head since it's so catchy. It would very important in her life if she was LITERALLY HUMMING IT while unconscious.
Perhaps this place is some sort of memory of Agent 8’s ride up the elevator in the escape phase? The actual elevator in the normal Agent 3 fight, and the Inner Agent 3 arena do have many similarities. Edit: *S O C I E T Y*
Inner agent 3 is weird. I know where it took place though. After the DJ Octavio fight in Splatoon 1. This is because you can see on of the tentacle speakers in the beginning of the fight in the distance, but it is blue instead of red.
I have a theory on why inner agent 3 is so hard, apart from the reason it’s the “final boss”, but because two years before Octo expansion, 3 fought against octolings, and 8 was one of them, but as we know when we played as 3 we just destroyed every enemy, so now we see it as the perspective of the octoling enemy
It could be more like a dream, so not everything has to make sense, it could be a memory from the past but Agent 8's body of the present! I've had many dreams of me in places and events from the past but with my present self
3:30 if 8's reliving of the incompleted fight (Octo Expansion) comes 2 years after that fight with 3 (Hero Mode 1), then the theory gets along perfectly and I don't get the theory hole 🙃
My theory is that when 8 fought 3 first it was a normal fight where 3 fought normally like she would do with any octarian, but then when she noticed that 8 wasn’t like them and was actually pretty strong decided to start fighting seriously, using specials and things, since I don’t think 3 would go that hard on a random octoling and I honestly don’t believe that 8 remembered her stronger than she actually was. Then the background, background music and clothes are 8’s imagination, as more things in the battle are, like in that moment where you splat 3 and she respawns and start the last phase I don’t believe she actually died since I believe that in octo valley/canyon you don’t respawn, I think it was 8 imaging that, maybe in the truth she just saw her very weak in that moment or maybe remembered that it was almost the end and imagined her dying. Then for the thing that they never finished their fight, when you beat IA3 you only see her falling to the ground in pain, but maybe she wasn’t fully defeated and kept fighting, just that 8 only remembered till that point. Idk what else to say so bye (also I referred to 3 as a girl since mine is a girl sorry if yours is a boy and that annoyed you)
Marina mentioned that the Deepsea Metro is located in an alternate dimension to Inkopolis, and we know that the Metro can give physical form to thoughts and memories (Mem Cakes) so maybe the fight actually happened while also being in 8’s mind (so maybe the Metro just gave physical form to her memories and “created” the fight)
Right now, I'm picturing Agent 8 inking the entire arena/stage by herself while Pearl and Marina watch them with confused looks. Meanwhile, Captain Cuttlefish says, "They're a little confused, but they got the spirit."
feel free to shoot holes in this one but i've got a theory: After remembering her past 8 begines to strugle fighting her feelings and emouonds fighting them and failing over and over (all your tries) when she fights it and sucseeds she feels better picking up the tooth pick that 3 left behind and moving on. hense ''inner agent 3".
Here’s a better idea: Nintendo was just to lazy to add an extra outfit style for agent 8 for just one level (technically the boss battle is a secret level) so they just used the only outfit for it.
I always thought inner agent 3 was a memory from the past of her and 3 fighting while she was still being controlled by Sanitization but now that you explain some more history on the game that I never heard my current theory is that 8 was freed from Octavio and 3 still thought that octos were bad and then she saw 8 and thought she was still bad so battle time and then the Calamari Inkantation plays and distracts 8 and 3 goes for an attack but then something have happened during battle and got them stuck there in DeepSea Metro and 8 remembers the battle but some of it is a little foggy like how powerful 3 is and what 8 was wearing
4:35 I don't think so, since Tartar could remove 3's limitator, what if 3 already removed it after Octavio's fight and the tartar sauce ink only made her more aggressive
I really like this theory. it makes sense and brings up good points. But...how does the golden toothpick have to do with refighting 3? What I imagine happens is eight picks up the toothpick and remembers the fight, why?
The weird part of the theory that inner agent 3 fights it’s at 8’s head is kinda not right because if it was actually on 8’s head. Then why cap cuttlefish and off the hook doesn’t give you tips or just there. My theory is that calamari inklatation sounds in the fight because is happening below the agent 4 vs Octavio boss fight, and the tentacles with speakers on the box fight are actually on Octavio vs agent 3 boss fight in Splatoon 1. So basically inner agent 3’s boss fights happens in the same place as agent 3 vs Octavio. But at that time the boss fight couldn’t be there because agent 3 and cap cuttlefish encounter agent 8. So agent 3 couldn’t fight with 8 at the same time, so in conclusion. Inner agent 3 battles happens ALL the scenarios after octo expansion. And before side order
One question remains... Why did Agent 8 refuse to take the GTP until *after* defeating IA3? If the GTP was what brought back 8's memory, then why didn't the game give you the GTP before throwing you into the fight? OAN, if you press A in front of the locker before getting all of the mem cakes, the 8th locker door will shake (like as if 8 knew that there was something special in there the entire time)
I think it’s in the original dj Octavio fight when the calamari inkation is played at the last faze of the battle because in the background you can see those tentacles spinning like in the boss fight 🤔
My theory is that the battle is real where agent 8 remembers it but doesn’t remember where so her mind makes up the arena area. Agent 8 may have defeated agent 3 but the battle was interrupted leading both of them and cuttlefish to be taken before agent 3 could have fought back. That may be why we see agent 8 winning the battle.
I don't know if you've ever thought about this but... Can you beat inner agent 3 with a different weapon? Like Rollers, Dualies, Splatlings, those weapons. I would love to see a person beat this with an inkbrush or blaster. Is it possible even to do such a crazy thing?
Uhm… was it really that difficult to piece together? I just sort of assumed it was in her head. You didn’t have to overcomplicate it since all of these are variations of the same thing.
I don't think agent 3 actually needs her ink tank btw, cause she has no limiter, and I don't think 8 was overestimating how strong 3 was, shes just really that strong
Are my theory is is that agent 8 dealing with the trauma that is basically what everyone does in hero mode kill everything so she's dealing with the trauma that agent three literally killed everyone. You buy a sheer amount of luck she was able to survive. and it is in a mental space of her own head, of her basically getting over her trauma. I'm just wondering how strong is actually agent 3 because there is a theory that when he was sanitized he was in that full power and wasn't thinking right, and inner agent 3 is in agent 8 imagination, but we do know that agent 3 could use any special on command, so how strong is Agent 3.
(Spoilers for a hat in time) To be honest I view inner agent 3 as the same case of ultra snatcher ex from a hat in time where you unlock them in a different way to the other boss rematches in their games, for ultra snatcher ex you have to beat tesco gordon ramsay, king dedede and not scrooge mcduck, and female goku. And not die 3 times in between the KD/NSM and female goku, to have a chance to fight ultra snatcher ex. Inner agent 3 is unlocked by beating every test atleast once. Both feel like a final challenge but seem like false memories being created by bad experiences and other memories the protagonists, hat kid (for ultra snatcher ex) and agent 8 ( for inner agent 3). Both use elements from different previous bosses, for inner agent 3 they use the music and set pieces of the dj octavio fight of splatoon 1. And for ultra snatcher ex he uses certain attacks from other bosses such as sawblades from NSM/KD or the dropping hour glasses from female goku.
oh come on don't be silly! It's clearly supposed to be the same fight that we do in octo expansion, and it is just way harder because of Agents 8's PTSD or something. The reason why you access it through the locker is because that' AGENT 8'S LOCKER, it's where she remembers the fight the most. And the door opening is just video gameeeeeeeeeeee thinggggggg

I always thought inner agent 3 was a memory from the past of her and 3 fighting while she was still being controlled by Sanitization but now that you explain some more history on the game that I never heard my current theory is that 8 was freed from Octavio and 3 still thought that octos were bad and then she saw 8 and thought she was still bad so battle time and then the Calamari Inkantation plays and distracts 8 and 3 goes for an attack but then something have happened during battle and got them stuck there in DeepSea Metro and 8 remembers the battle but some of it is a little foggy like how powerful 3 is and what 8 was wearing
dude, I'm sure after passing inner agent 3, an epilepsy attack happens as soon as they hear the callmary inkornation.
Actually... Who brought Cap, 3, and 8 to the metro?
it takes place on mars inside of a shrine

And before side order
my theory is that this battle is what it felt like to fight the player as a normal octoling in the hero mode
Love the content
Im fighting her now to try and get the Toothpick before Splat 3. I actually curious about this.
Agent 3 never wears a ink tank in splatoon 2
I think the “Two Years ago” text is a reference to how Splatoon 2 was released 2 years after the first game.
But octo expansion was released *3* years after the first game.
One question remains... Why did Agent 8 refuse to take the GTP until *after* defeating IA3? If the GTP was what brought back 8's memory, then why didn't the game give you the GTP before throwing you into the fight?
OAN, if you press A in front of the locker before getting all of the mem cakes, the 8th locker door will shake (like as if 8 knew that there was something special in there the entire time)
And what if agent 8 is connected to Octavio I mean they look pretty similar
Love you, Keep it up
I always wondered about this and thanks for making this video! :D
😠me: because you not only one
I had no idea my favorite (and first) Zelda game would appear in this video
Theory 1 is basically extestentialism
I think the possibility is that it actually the locker is actually a door to the arena so then they fight
I think it’s in the original dj Octavio fight when the calamari inkation is played at the last faze of the battle because in the background you can see those tentacles spinning like in the boss fight 🤔
But that doesn’t explain the tags on 8
My theory is that the battle is real where agent 8 remembers it but doesn’t remember where so her mind makes up the arena area. Agent 8 may have defeated agent 3 but the battle was interrupted leading both of them and cuttlefish to be taken before agent 3 could have fought back. That may be why we see agent 8 winning the battle.
wuhu island
They fought on the swordplay arena
That's such a cool theory!!
Well i actually think that it’s a memory that it’s distorted with different memories with agent 3 or at least that’s what I think
Industrial SOCIETY! And it’s future by Theodore john Kazinsky
So i have not gotten to inner agent 3 but i recon it is a mortal hell for people who hear that name
I don't know if you've ever thought about this but...
Can you beat inner agent 3 with a different weapon?
Like Rollers, Dualies, Splatlings, those weapons. I would love to see a person beat this with an inkbrush or blaster.
Is it possible even to do such a crazy thing?
YES I DIED SO MANY TIMES WHEN I WAS ONE HITAWAY FROM KILLING HIM/HER
Uhm… was it really that difficult to piece together? I just sort of assumed it was in her head. You didn’t have to overcomplicate it since all of these are variations of the same thing.
Inner agent 3 it’s a memory agent 8 had were she loses , she tries to beat her inner agent 3 on her mind
When you said SOCITY I had headphones I thanks for making me deth
This was Phenomenal to know.
I beat it in a car so take it with a grain of salt
Was this video reuploaded? I could have sworn I already seen it in my recommended before!
Just dropped today!
Deja vu
@@rizirone Who attacked them though?
My thoughts exactly
I belive since it says 2years ago ur memories return if it came ojt in 2018 then it must of took place in 2016
(Spoilers for a hat in time)
To be honest I view inner agent 3 as the same case of ultra snatcher ex from a hat in time where you unlock them in a different way to the other boss rematches in their games, for ultra snatcher ex you have to beat tesco gordon ramsay, king dedede and not scrooge mcduck, and female goku.
Same as my head-cannnon
Neat
My sister played splatoon so much- that she beat inner agent 3 on her second try 😭😭😭😭
oh come on don't be silly! It's clearly supposed to be the same fight that we do in octo expansion, and it is just way harder because of Agents 8's PTSD or something. The reason why you access it through the locker is because that' AGENT 8'S LOCKER, it's where she remembers the fight the most. And the door opening is just video gameeeeeeeeeeee thinggggggg
hey rizirone, whats your opinion on bosnia?
haha that stream was fun, I was rizi r34
I know inner agent 3 is hard and all but she ain’t got nothing on captain cuttlefish and his top level skills with the bamboo.
t a n k m a n
Octo expansion did not happen to years after the story mode it happens at the same time
Can someone explain why it says two years ago?
It takes place in a locker
YES
I'm pretty shure its non cannon and were not supposed to think about it
Hers something to lead off of I know the Golden tooth pick plays a part in the battle but I just can’t put my finger on it.Also not to flex but I beat inner agent 3 3rd try.
this boss was so stupid.... why did i have "3" lives and agent 3 had 47? somethings not adding up....
You brought up the ink tank but sanitized agent 3 also does not have an ink tank
How does agent 3 not have to use an
Ink tank it makes no sense
It took me a day to do it
they didn't want to make a new outfitr for agent 8 during the fight, theory 2 is right
thank you gamer B)
I dont remember IA3 as a symptom of my PTSD (jk I beat it this Monday! whoop whoop!)
my guess is that it happened during 2's hero mode, but then her memory is slightly contorted because of everything.
