That master switch was added. They don’t have keys in the military. Also your diff’s have an air pump that creates positive pressure so no liquid can enter. They bubble as you’re driving under water.

I've done the driving thru water in one exactly like that one before my last deployment ... the fan is a weak point don't just fly into the water... we hit the washout at max freedom and broke every blade off the fan when the front end went under .. it made it thru but the fan was cooked.. just wanted to give you a heads up
Yep... That's exactly what happens!
You have to disengage the fan by flooring the gas pedal . There is a time delay switch that will turn off the fan also will disengage for passing. It also look like the HMMWV he bought doesn't have the deep fording switch.

Every Marine Corps Humvee is equipped with a deep water fording kit. Not all of the other branches are. Someone added that intake stack, it's not as tall as the legit pieces. The diffs, hubs, and transmission are tied into the fording kit. There's a valve on the engine that uses crankcase gases to pressurize all the drivetrain components to keep water out. There's a lever on the dash to switch from vent to ford on vehicles equipped with it. I've had those things in water 3/4 up the windshield.

@@JM-yx1lm not really the start until he actually does mods or tries to take it underwater this is just him stating he's bought a new vehicle that he plans to use for that series but we'll see if it actually happens or not as he could easily get side tracked with the El Camino, Ruby, Leroy or other shit as they have a little over a month until Rocky Mountain Race Weeks so they have to start getting the cars ready for that

I work on Hummers all the time at work. You can make a bracket to go above the passenger windshield to connect to a taller intake tube.

That's a nice unit right there, most of the ex-military ones are beat to pieces. Also convertible is the only way to go, buddy bought a camo green ex-Army unit, it was the tin top with the sloping rear roof. Couldn't drive it 6 months of the year in Tennessee, it was basically a tin can oven with no a/c or any type of insulation.

Hilariously awesome, I drove these quite a bit after being in the Army for 8 years, haha. There is zero leg room, and they are the slowest vehicles I've ever driven in my life, but they are amazingly capable. You could take it into the pond immediately and succeed!
Also, the key is aftermarket, in the military all they have is the ignition switch and a retractable steel cable steering wheel lock (to be used with a padlock)

The motorcycle key switch forward of the shifter is a fuel cut off switch so someone doesn't seal your truck. I have the same thing on my 1990 M998. You should also have the the cable loop to lock the steering wheel. ENJOY!!! I love mine too! Semper Fi from a Marine vet. ;)

Hey man, just a little tip. If you happen to get under 25 feet when you take the plunge, best thing to do is take a 3 minute safety stop at 3 feet, just in case.

After WWII, the Army tried to use underwater tanks in an effort to take a beach (like on D-Day/Omaha Beach). It didn't work. If you run a snorkel to the motor and extend the exhaust, there is enough of an air bubble inside the tank that the tanks started to float at a certain point. Dirt Every Day/Motor Trend tried to do it with what was basically a 4BT swapped Jeep, the jeep started to float and they couldn't get anywhere. If your attempt is to work, you are probably going to need more weight swapped in and reduced tire pressure, in addition to your efforts to seal up the drivetrain.
Nothing like buying a new toy and bringing it to your buddy's house to show it off. It's a mandatory stop so you can share that joy with him. Good times!!

Cool Humvee fact. The trans transfer case and both diffs vent into the air box. Had a guy one time that hooked a fuel line to the vent system and filled everything with diesel. I had to build the t400 and tcase that was fun

My dsd used to have a single rear axle military truck from the 50s and when you pulled the fording lever, as long as you could breathe and had the snorkels you could park underwater for as long as u want

That soft top, soft door is the exact version I was riding around Ramadi in 2006. Imagine driving that thing in one of the nastiest war zones in modern history.Edit FYI You don’t have to drain the diffs because they are air pressurized so it will blow air out before it lets water in.

Hopefully this is a good tool to keep interest ...I have a humvee 6.2 in my ford ranger....and usually run the humvee tires in summer...had an older army fleet guy looking at it....listening when I was getting fuel ...he knew what it was ...and asked what was swapped in. . so when I opened it up, he knew it had older heads and a 660 block. Amazing knowledge
Were did they stick the compressor ??? Our 1st gen m1025's didnt have onbord air in 04-06 , some 2nd gens had CTIS (on the fly tire pressure adjustments ) that didnt work leeky o-rings and not worth fixing most of the time (too much down time and no parts in Sader City)

As a service member, who’s job is specifically to drive tactical vehicles. it’s not exactly hard to hate the hmmwv. If you’re an 88m or motor t op you know exactly what I mean.
It was weird seeing the doors with working handles, we always had to use 550 cord because they broke off all the time
I used to drive those in Iraq in 2003 and 2004. I was deployed in the first invasion in 2003 and went back in 2004. I broke my back from the stress of those deployments so now I have a titanium plate in my back. Those were really fun and scary days.

Make sure you check the steering linkage ball joints and idler arms they are known to have issues wearing out prematurely and popping off.

Hey cleetus i have 6 humvees and heres some important stuff i can tell you about them. The intake box where it makes a 90 from the snorkel is NOT sealed it has to be sealed to go into water. The batteries are not sealed either they are under the right passanger seat. The rod nock sound is the loud ass inhection pump. You can get them turned up at an injection shop and the intake runners can get port matched easily because they are shitty castings and restrictive. I took off the muffler and built a 4 inch exhaust for mine. And banks sells a turbo kit for these also. The tires have a big rubber runflat in them you can take them out and get a plastic insert for the tire and gets rid of the vibration and making it more smoother of a ride on and off road.and picks up speed alot better. As for the suspension leave it stock its best stock. Keep it full of oil and add a lucas bottle to it on oil changes. With the exhaust and injection pump work done to mine it peggs the mph gage and roals coal
